The Emergency ,Ireland acts 1939 (It's back guys)
The Emergency was an official euphemism used by the Irish Government during the 1940s to refer to its position during World War II. The state was officially neutral during World War II, but declared an official state of emergency on 2 September 1939, and enacted the Emergency Powers Act the following day. This gave sweeping new powers to the government for the duration of the Emergency, such as internment, censorship of the press and correspondence, and the government control of the economy. As we know Ireland stayed out of World War 2 but what follows is an Alternative history, the following is fiction.
The War till Now
War has broken out in Europe since early 1939 the world is in Flames the Axis powers including the newly elected Greek Fascists flock to Germany’s Aid, Italy Remains Neutral for now. The Germans Invasion of Poland is fast and rapid and takes, a few weeks. France mobilises quickly and makes gains along the Germans Western Border, as fresh German troops plug the gap the attack bogs down.
24th September 1939
Ireland Decides
At a meeting of the Irish Parliament, it was decided that Ireland can’t stand by and watch Europe fall as it is much else their fate is tied to Great Britain. UK’s foreign minister flew to Ireland to gain support for an Anglo Irish Alliance, it was agreed and on the 24th September Ireland declared war against Germany, with the proviso the Ulster Provinces would return to Irish control after the war, the settlement was agreed, and the Treaty signed Ireland mobilised.
The Signing of the Alliance with Great Britain
"We will fight using all means which may be found necessary". (Eamon de Valera)
Irish Army Mobilises for War
Ireland Moves to plan its first Operation
Operation Shamrock
Irish forces were urgently needed on the continent as German forces began to invade Holland and Belgium to try to out flank the bogged down French attack, with the remnants of the BEF and the Belgium and Dutch armies would form a defence able stop line to try to check the German advance, Operation Shamrock was conceived as a joint plan, but it would leave large parts of Holland Under German control but it would eventually slow the Germans down. A price for liberty, as the Irish army isn’t well Equipped to go on any real offensive operations, it is a Holding operation.
Final Plan
Red Lines represent Land given up to the Germans (the Dutch army is basically dead in game)
Green = Irish Forces
Yellow = Belgium and GB Forces
As it is on the Battle map
The Army Rushed to France is under overall command of LT.Gen Killane based just to the west of the Belgium Capital the units are mainly Reservists and have poor Equipment but the allies need the men to plug the hole in the Low countries.
A German Attacked was Lunched on at the start of November with the Goal of splitting the Irish and Belgium armies along what has been called the Thin Green line. The combined Irish and Belgium Troops managed to hold german Panzer forces with minimal casualties at Antwerp
