A New HungARRy - A Kaiserreich AAR

After the German victory in the great war, the people of Europe were plunged into a span which resembled the dark ages itself. In Europe, the nations of France and Britain fell upon syndicalism, while Russia was fighting off a Bolshevik revolution. Within Asia, British India collapsed into 3 states: A Islamic Northern State or Delhi, The East was occupied by Bengali Socialists who wished to spread the revolution, The South was turned into a radical Hindu pro-German confederation. In china, the qing empire shattered into tiny pieces that were picked up by Imperial nations. The Southern southern region was controlled by a German run company which is unstable and is treating to collapse at any time. In the east came the nations of Tibet and Ma, these countries are corrupted to the core and are under threat from there northern most neighbor, Mongolia, who is lead by the mighty baron who wishes to reclaim Genghis Khan's former empire. In Central china, a new holy state has been formed consisting of the land that was communist china in today's terms, there intentions are great and wish to take down their rival, the Qing Empire, who is only a small piece of what it once was and is attempting to rebuild itself. They are threatened by the Japanese to the north who have created a republic and is ready to expand into the rest of china and expand the empire which consists of Transamur, Manchuria and Korea. In the americas a new fashion has rose and that is syndicalism, with mexico already a left winged country, the contenint is at risk. Nations like Brazil and the United States are heavly influnced by this left winged society and are threating to collapse. We finally reach Europe, the germans have created their empire epanding from ukraine to France and have the most influence in the world. Austria, the nation who started the great war, has expanded signifcantly. When the battle for italy was won, the country was split into 2: a papal-pro austrian north, and the south- a socialist state that allied with france. Bulgaria has also made massive gains. After their victory, they were granted land from greece, romania, and serbia. They are clearly a regional power to be delt with. We then reach mother hungary, a nation in distress. With the nation near collapse, it was decided that a more democratic system be created with parlimentary elections every year. Currently the Imperial Party rules and has the most influence but the nationalists and Syndicalist parties still have major influence.

The future looks dim but one of these parties will change the world and YOU THE READAAR will decide, this aar will be run in party format. A ReadAAR will be granted a party but before you are granted a party you must give me a good reason why you should lead. I will chose soon and then you will try to convince people why your party should lead. Each party will be allowed to post a update once every 3 days and if 2 are posted you will lose a parliamentary seat. This aar will start with a parliamentary election and from there you will be granted seats and if your party is big enough then readAARs can actually join parliament and debate the future of Hungary. You can also decide economic policies as well like if you want a command or market economy. I hope you have as much fun with this then I do :D

Now its time for an Update on the current status of the nation



Hungary is currently a puppet of Austria along with Bosnia, Galacia, and Bohemia. Hungary controls its own puppet state of Croatia but all rule in the end is directed toward Austria. Here is a map of our current situation

The Hungarian Parliament consits of 3 major parties and 4 minor parties these include......

The Imperial Party- The Imperial party wishes to continue to be loyal to Austria

The United Syndicalist party- The goals of the party is to free the whole empire from imperialism and join the international

The Nationalist Party- This party wants full independence and to expand into Galacia, Bosnia and Croatia but by staying more right winged

The Danube Party- Wants reunification with the Danube countries aka Romania and Bulgaria

The Serbian Party- This party wishes to ally with Serbia and help Serbia achieve its goals and also to make Vojvodina Serbian land again

The Transylvanian Liberation Party- This party wants to create a unifed Romania and is willing to do anything to achieve it

The Slovakian Party- The Slovak party wants to federate but still be a puppet of Hungary and not Austria

But, I would like to volunteer to be the officer of the Hungarian Nationalist Party. I am a nationalist myself, and have empathy for the plight of the magyars. I will post regularly when this begins, and do my best to justify our full independence and dominion over the lands of St. Stephen, as well as staunchly opposing the dangerous evils of Syndicalism. :)

Interesting idea here, I hope it takes off.

but as for other information, how do you think the Hungary should expand? should it ally with the entente or with middle europe? you gave good a profile and that helps but you wont be granted then job right away, others must be tried! But if you do answer the 2 questions above and give an explaination, you will be granted a parlimentary seat.

Same goes for you Soviet America :D

Ok well this short update is here to tell you that voting time will come soon and i will publish party updates soon on who leads the party in the game and how the wish to achieve their goals
 
1. Well, maybe it should join a major alliance and become a bigger player, maybe even dominate Austria for once. It'd be interesting to have the Syndies or nationalists win during a Great Depression-like event you can stimulate in history, and have the Austro-Hungarian Empire break in two with Germany absorbing Austria, perhaps.

2. Depending on how Hungary becomes, whiever alliance is closer it shall join. I support the syndies, so we could have them in the Internationale. Changing sides in the next war isn't impossible, look at Italy OTL.

The Hungarians have been crippled by famine and chaos, the Germans in their Deutsch Irrendta has carved up our Empire in its weak state, showing their true nature. We have fought alongside the Germans in this war, married to Austria. We have faced the Russians and the French, and this turns out to be our thanks? I'm not supporting the monarchy, I'm supporting the fact that monarchy and ethnic squabble has resulted in our misery. The free markets have failed, allowing Germany to make us its prey. To unite the nation of Hungary, my fellow Hungarians, Romanians, Serbians, all of our brethren, we must unite under the black and red flag to liberate ourselves from the German madmen! Workers, it is time to rise against the oppressors, we must join the Internationale and unite the world! We must meet with the British, Sicilian, and the French. The arthritic Monarchy is holding back the vigourous Magyar peoples. We have been shackled to a corpse for far too long; independence from Austria is essential.

The Germans are known to traffick with their incompetent habsburg bretheren, so it may be difficult to reach an accord with them. However, if it can be done, they are more desirable allies then the Entente. If not- we must take what we can get.

Croatia and Galicia are properly Hungarian lands. Beyond that, Serbia and Romania agitate for our lands in which they have a minority presence. The former was the instigator of the late great war, and the latter stabbed us in the back. They cannot be allowed to endure, and once we have destroyed them, the region will be much more secure.

To that end, we should seek close ties with Bulgaria.

Finally, Ukraine's cheap wheat prices threaten the traditional means of livelihood for Hungary. We were a people of the steppes once- We could reclaim it once more, to secure Hungary's role as the breadbasket of central europe.

Ok well you will be granted a seat in parliament for the syndicates and by tomorrow we will see how many people want to jump in. Prepare some ideas, find propaganda posters anything would be good to contribute to your cause, that applies for everyone. Now its time for the harder questions

1-The Magyars already have bad relations with france and It would take time to gain there trust. What methods do you think should be used to gain the trust of France and Italy?

2-The Balkans are starting to heat up. All the nations are right winged so who would you side with if the war broke out and why or would you not get involved at all?

3-If Hungary joins the international they will be forced into a horrible position and might have to fight a 4 front war agianst the ottomans, Ukraine, Italian federation and Germany. What would

Good response parliamentary seat granted to you as well! time for your questions.....


1-If a conflict over the contested regions break out and the Germans and Austrians side agianst Hungary, what would be your recommendation to get out? (fight to the death is not an option)

2-If Austria wants to federate or centralize the monarchy, what will your response be if the conflict were to occur?

3-When the war in the Balkans breaks out and Bulgaria is destroyed and then the belegrade pact presses claims on Hungarian lands, what would you do to the minorities in the region to keep them from getting rowdy? (remember to follow the rules no devious answers)
 
I suggest you aggressively attack Romania relatively early, preferably before 1937, after building a sizable militia army to overwhelm them. This will expand Hungary's borders without brushing up against any bigger powers (namely Austria, Germany, France, and Russia.) It will also prevent any alliance of the minor powers which might limit Hungary's later imperial interests.

Just a suggestion though. :)

As far as Hungary's allegiance, a lot hinges on your approach to Austria. If you want to break with Austria, than you could either pursue a German approachment. The benefits to this are fairly obvious. A powerful neighbor to the north that will allow you to go after pretty much anyone in the region knowing you've got a powerful ally to protect your interests. The downside is the limit to your potential. You will forever be Germany's weaker ally and won't be able to create a bloc of nations under your wing.

The alternative is either syndicalists (which I agree is difficult to do, potentially hazardous, and probably not in Hungary's interests), try to join the Entente (which should be doable), or create your own smaller alliance of like-minded nations. I've had a lot of success getting the Ottoman Empire to join my alliance (without file editing) as either Canada, the American First-Union, and even Japan. I don't know about Bulgaria, but that might be doable without any file editing.

Personally, I support forming an alliance of like-minded second-tier powers that can counteract the heavy German influence in the region.

Could you explain your political parties: What's the difference between the Imperialist Party and the Nationalist Party?
 
I, as a slovene delegate in the United Syndacalist party totally agree
with the plan of ending imperialism, free all peoples from evil austria rule, establish a federal state and join the internationale.

Death to imperialism, freedom to people.

Edit: freeing other people (Bulgars, Germans, Romanians,...) from imperialist rule would be also nice once hungary is strong enough :D
 
DAMN IT I was just thinking of doing a Kaiserreich Hungary AAR. Well now you have narrowed down my choices a bit :p.

Nationalist party GO, free the Magyars from the Austrian yoke. Also Austrian restrictions on our trade from being a puppet will kill the economy since Hungary has no resources, so you need to get out as quickly as possible. Time for Hungary to expand its military, hopefully independence can be achieved peacefully but if Austria chooses to fight we must be prepared.
 
Hungary must gain independence. Preferably with Austrian support, but we should be ready to fight, furthermore Hungary should annex Bosnia and Croatia to create a Greater Empire. Hungary must be a monarchy, but not under Vienna. This stupid parliament must be dissolved and all minorities Magyarized.
 
I think that Hungary is very good choice to play in KR. I had much fun playing with that nation once. My path was like this:
1.I chosed to stay with Dualism, but I demanded and anexed Galizia(Austrians will give you only one autonomous land if you demand them, not both Galizia and Bosnia). I got cores on Galizia and anexed it, but I stayed Austrian puppet.
2.When event about fate of Croatia came up, I chosed to Magyarize Dalmatia(Croatia declared war on me and I anexed them with cores). I was still Austrian puppet.
3.Now most interesting thing. I joined Mitteleuropa, I was German ally, but still Austrian puppet. I declared war on Austria, breaking puppet status. Luckily for me, Bohemia sided with me and became my puppet, while Bosnia stayed with Austria. I conquered entire Austria and Bosnia. Otto I. became king of Hungary and empire was centralised under Hungarian crown.
4.Without Austrian support, Italian federation could not defeat Syndicalist Italy. When the war erupted, I was fighting Syndicalist Italy while Germans fought Syndicalist France. I managed to anex entire Italy, but I couldn't break southern French defense line. CoF had such massive army and it was supported by Syndicalist Spain, that war became ''sitzkrieg''. Just like WW1, bloody attacks and counter-attacks, but fronts stayed unchanged. I was doing just fine until Belgrade pact declared war on me. I couldn't stop all those Serbian, Romanian and Greek troops pouring into poor defended Hungarian lands. Ottomans were my allies, but they were squashed by Greeks and Georgians. What a mess! I was defeated, but I had great fun playing.

Good luck with Hungary! You have made realy nice election map, altough I dounbt that Hungarians would allow that nationalist parties participate in elections. Hungarian part of empire was much more centralised than Austrian part. Nice AAR. :cool:
 
I, as a (real) hungarian propose that we should ask for independence in the ausgleich, even if they threaten us with war. Also, Croatia and Bosnia shall be annexed, Galizien be given to Poland in an act of friendship of the eternal Polish-Hungarian brotherhood (note: the two nations, while Hungarians are not slavs, view eachother as brethren). Our goal shall be an alliance with Bulgaria, Poland, and the Ottoman Empire, and possibly a puppeted Ukraine. Go Hungarian Nationalist party!

OOC: after independence change the ruler from Otto I. to maybe Horthy, or someone other social conservative or authoritarian democrat...
 
Qwert makes a good point about the historical friendship of Hungarian and Pole. An enlarged Poland, possibly reviving the Polish-Lithuanion union, should be one of our long term foreign policy goals, as it would do much to secure our borders.

Additionally, we should view it on our interest to keep the Ottomans strong, as a fellow turanic peoples, and a strong regional power we can rely on, along with Bulgaria.

Politically, the National party should (reluctantly) form a coalition with the Imperial party at present levels of support indicated by the graph. Independence from the Habsburgs is a central goal, but we cannot allow the Kingdom to fall to Socialism or the minorities to foment rebellion. If we do not have enough electorate support to break away from the Monarchy, a personal union would be an acceptable compromise.

Now, to Kovan's questions-

1) A personal union is an acceptable compromise in this situation. It allows us nominal freedom, and the monarch can be deposed when german attention is elsewhere. Germany is an ailing state, and can not -always- be breathing down our neck. But we cannot try and resist Germany and Austria simultaneously, at least not initially.

2) Centralisation and Federation are both infringements upon Hungarian independence, and must be manfully resisted. We must build up our domestic army, but I think there is little to fear from the Austrian military. Our long term goal should not be annexation of Austrian or Bohemian lands, however- we do not want to become overextended, minorities in our own, such as befell the Austrians themselves. Friendly and independent governments in each area should be our goal.

3) Assuming our foreign policy had suffered such disasterous reverses as the destruction of Bulgaria, war with the belgrade pact nations would be the kneejerk reaction, to restore Bulgarian independence and destroy the rogue nations which destabilise the region. In the short term, Magyarisation must continue. Let them speak Hungarian in the workplace, and eliminate all notions of being 'seperate' peoples. Once Romania has been crushed, we could create a puppet government there for our noisiest nationalists in transylvania to migrate to, to secure our hold in the szekely lands.

The Serbian minority is small enough to ignore, and the Slovakian minority is too far removed from the front to cause us serious problems.
