Re: military plans

The war with Don-Kuban has given us reason to disclose several military plans drawn up in case of war. Please not that these plans where written before the war started. The current situation might mean that the plans need to be modified.

Further, the army announces that it will take a strong stance against the far right populists attempting to topple our lawful regime. Our most popular generals, Markov and Denikin, will publically denounce any such attempts, fearing for Russia’s unity. The former bolshevist part of our officer corps, led by generals Timochenko and Vlasov, will also resist any coups, fearing that Kerensky’s pardons will be withdrawn. Generals Kornilov and Wrangel have been placed under supervision.

Case Yellow – Don-Kuban Union
Any assault into the Cossack lands will mean crossing the Volga, a formidable defensive barrier. This works to our advantage in holding the Cossacks at bay, but wars aren’t won by holding an enemy at bay. Gaining a foothold on the other side will be our first task. We recommend Salsk or Kotelnikovo. The Cossack land are mainly flat, meaning that cavalry will have an advantage in speed above infantry, the Cossacks are master horsemen, so we should beware being surrounded. Cavalry of our own will be useful. The open plains will mean that airplanes will have a clear sight of their targets.
The next task will be securing the border with the Black Sea, which will mean taking the Cossack capital of Yekaterinodar and the port of Novorossisk.
The next targets should be Bashanta in the heart of the Cossack lands. From there we can attempt an assault into Chechnya, attempting to take Grozny.
With their capital and their most important cities taken, we expect Ataman Krasnov to sue for peace.

Case Green – Turkestan
Turkestan is an obsolete, feudal state. It exists of a collection of tribes, peoples and warlords all subject to rule from a military and/or religious elite. Their armies are highly mobile, able to cover large distances on their horses, surrounding their opponents in the blink of an eye. Also, the loose structure of the state means it can continue fighting while loosing large amounts of territory, since for example Uzbek warriors don’t care about Turkmen being beaten, while all Russians would be upset at the loss of Tsaritsyn. Therefore we recommend striking at the head of the snake, the cities of Tashkent and Samarkand. With their military and religious leaders captured, the opportunistic warlords and mullahs will sue for peace to save their own influence.

Case Blue – Alash Orda
The Orda is a weak state, torn between tensions between ethnic Cossacks, Russians, Kazakhs and Turkmen. The vast size of the country, coupled with their weak army makes them a target of both Turkestan and Mongolia. Their stance towards etnick Russians makes them a target for intervention from our side too.
Astrakhan, on the coasts of the Caspian Sea, should be our first target as it is the centre of most industry. Kazalinsk and Turgai in Western Kazachstan are important centres of government and should be taken as quickly as possible. We recommend leaving Eastern Kazachstan as it is, only sending a flying column from Novosibirsk to the Capital of Alash-Qala (formerly Semipalatinsk).
The steppes themselves are our greatest enemy, taking time for our infantry to cross and leaving them vulnerable to being surrounded.

Case Gray – Mongolia
Mongolia is a militaristic tribal society, currently under the iron fist of the Mad Baron, Roman Ungern von Sternberg. Their cavalry is highly mobile and superiour to ours in any way. Mongolia’s plains will take time for our infantry to cross, time Sternberg will not give us. Defeating them will mean a slow march to Urga, the capital and Khobdo, a mountainous fort near the border with the Ma’s.
Sternberg has shown interests to expanding into Central Asia and the territory of the Ma’s, all of them weaker than he is. War will make Mongolia weaker however, meaning that their cavalry will be hundreds of miles from their capital. We suggest striking Mongolia at such a time, trying to rush towards Urga and Khobdo, hopefully while keeping our flanks secure.

These are summaries of three of our military plans, disclosed because of the risk of war. Cases Brown (Ukraine), Fuchsia (Finland), Mustard (Japan), and Fieldgrey (Mitteleuropa) can be disclosed at the authority of the Council at a moments notice.

I declare the Соединение от октября 17 to be, in the interest of constitutional reform for a constitutional monarchy, in support of the government and Duma.

I suggest a militaristic-right alliance with the 'Blood and Fatherland' fraction. if we are able to gain surpreme majority, Russia will become a militarist state. In all other cases, the answer is civil war (which we do not desire) or compromise (which we desire)

I tought of it, but this map is basically a Greater Russia map, any transatlantic adventures can be plotted later on

Lower house of the legislature that confirms the Prime Minister and passes laws. Members are elected by direct vote in their constituencies. Current composition:

Duma1936.png

Conservatives: 112
Union of October 17: 22
Constitutional Democrats: 68
Social Revolutionaries: 158
Mensheviks: 90

In the latest Duma election in 1932 Conservatives fared well in rural and non-industrial areas, Octobrists won in just a few cities that have a high mix of aristocrats and liberals, Kadets dominated elections in major central Russian cities, including St. Petersburg, SRs won primarily in industrial areas, mostly in the east of the country, and Mensheviks secured victories only around the heavily industrial areas of Sverdlovsk and Novosibirsk. A map showing the results:

Senate

Upper house of the legislature that deals with issues that cross local jurisdiction. Members are appointed by local governments. Current composition:

Senate1936.png

Conservatives: 48
Union of October 17: 6
Constitutional Democrats: 28
Social Revolutionaries: 32
Mensheviks: 2

Local Governments

A local legislature is elected directly by the people while a governor is appointed by the President. Whichever party controls the local government also has a chance to appoint its members to the Senate to represent that region. Map of Russia’s regions:

As with the Duma elections, in the last local elections in 1934 the Conservatives fared well in many mostly rural areas of Russia, the Octobrists mostly in the northwestern cities, Kadets in central Russian cities, SRs in heavy industrial cities out east, and Mensheviks secured their only victory in Novosibirsk. A map showing the results:

Elections

Due to the situation in the country the Duma elections scheduled for 1936 and the local elections scheduled for 1938 were cancelled. The first elections to be held since the end of the Kerensky regime will be the Duma elections of 1940. All active members of political parties are invited to start planning and formulating an election strategy.

"As an advisor to the Army I feel reluctant to enter politics. The army is an instrument of the government, its task being to furfill goals set by the government. This political primate is one of the foundations of our democracy.

However, the army will guarantee the rights of any democratic party, wether Conservative, SR, Kadet or Oktobrist. We will not stand for any undemocratic government."

Nb. This advisor has an opinion of his own, ofcourse. He will work behind the screens to manipulate officers and soldiers alike to vote for his preferred government despite his public statements of being apolitical ;). I'm just a hypocrite...

I will PM Stormbringer with my vote later. Just make me and the Army an offer I can't refuse...

Note that there is now a Blood&Fatherland (Ultranationalist) faction to add into the next elections. Hopefully we can sway Russia to more 'Manifest Destinyism' on the subject of reconquering her pre-WW1 claims. If you want to stay democracy, I'm find with that, but it is my idea to reunite the motherland first and then do politics when we are strong enough to exact influence on all our neighbours.

If the revolution succeeds however... fascism! :D

Yes, there is a Nationalist party to add to the five already in existence. Although TRP should put forward a platform and an electoral strategy for it if he hopes for it to have much success.

Well, if the revolution fails, the only point of the nationalists really is the annexation of all pre-WW1 claims we talked about a while ago, and after that an America-USSR style influence spreading. The reconquest of our core lands, however, is of utmost nessecity.

The navy stand firm behind democracy! Under the Czarist system the sailors and officers were just supposed to follow orders from a government that cared little. Now every man has a vote, and every sailor and officer in the navy can vote for their prefered government. Russia's future is in democracy. That's why we must resist goons like the Cossacks, the extremists of Bukhara and the Mad Baron, dictators oppressing their people.

For once the Army and the Navy agree! The army shall prevent extremism to march across Mother Russia ever again, while the navy shall, err, shall do something too!!!

Quick question regarding our generals. I am doing some basic research on the upper echelon military leaders (marshalls, generals) with which Russia start in Kaiserreich for a short story on our generals and politics. Most of them are either Whites or executed Soviets, but there are a few I didn't find any info on:

Marshall Voronets
General Polyagin
General Manshikov
General Fabricius
General Bidemann

Note that these are their Kaiserreich ranks. Can anyone here help me? Will improve the report I was writing :D.
