Anno Domini 1419

Invasion of Normandy

HenryVinFrance.jpg

In the year 1419 war raged in Europe as the Englishmen and Frenchmen were once again fighting over the crown of France. The peace that had lasted for years had been once again broken by the son of Henry IV, king Henry V who had launched an successful invasion of Normandy, leading the armies himself.

The allies of England were few and only the Irish counts were fighting together with England against France. Portugal simply remained as the loyal supporter of England due to the fact that they had made several arrangements for royal marriages in the past years.

Damn, Henry V has nice stats! Use him while you can.

Joe

France must be destroyed.

From what I recall, England is in a good position early on with the fracture of France proper and Dauphine. Get Burgundy on your side and it's a cakewalk.

However you'll understand if I don't root for England 100%. ;) There are some Scots out there for which I have a soft spot. :D

Good luck!

Lollards and road to Paris

While the king was fighting in France heretics in England and Wales started to spread their ideas trough out the land with the lead of John Wyclif. The council left to rule the lands while the King was gone didn't want to risk rebells rising on the countryside and they decided not to act against these heretics.

In July 1419 Henry V had successfully claimed Picardie to the English armies and after a quick rest he marched his men towards Ile de France and Paris.

By August the French and English armies had clashed on the fields of Ile de France. After long battles lasting for weeks an possibility rose that the French armies would soon retreat to Paris.

John the Fearless brings us victory

Husseinteens.jpg

In eastern Europe the Hussites declared their independence from Romanist Bohemia in August 1419.

Fearless.jpg

In September 1419 Dauphin diplomats and Duke of Burgundy met in a secret meeting to discuss about their future when the Dauphin traitors assassinated John the Fearless cold blooded bringing Duke of Burgundy closer to England.

pArtisans.jpg

Back in England the council faced though decision again when artisans started to demand lower taxes.

ParisBurning.jpg

In April 1420 siege of Paris was nearing it's end when wide spread fires had spread all over the city.

WehasWon.jpg

Almost twelve months later after the remaining cities had been conquered by the English armies, the King of France finally offered peace and the lands in Normandy. King Henry V had achieved an victory over the French but there were still matters to be discussed.

Indeed, Henry must be crowned the King of France! :D

King Henry V, heir of the crown of France

Troyes.jpg

April 16th 1421 Henry V pressed his claims on to the crown of France in negotiations held in Troyes.

heiltothechief.jpg

Under pressure Charles VI was forced to sing the surrender agreement and give his daughter to Henry V along with the claims to the crown of France.

vassals.jpg

After the official agreement about making Henry V the heir of France both Charles VI and Duke of Burgundy submitted under the English rule giving their support to Henry V in the war against Dauphin.

Duke of Burgundy even wanted to join the alliance England had with the Irish.

orleains.jpg

September 1421 the city of Orleans fell to the British giving them good position to attack rest of Dauphin provinces.

Well, that was quick. Henry wastes no time. Good thing too since he's not long with us, from what I recall. ;)

Aye, make the most of Henry while he lasts. The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long, and he has shone like the morning sun :)

Will be interesting to see how this pans out. My own England game was bugged, didn't get any of the events I should have since the troyes event never fired.

Hey cool, im also playing the same scenario right now, very interesting wars against france, dauphine ;)
How did you manage to vassalize Burgundy?

They became my vassal in the "Henry V is heir to France" event.

The King is dead Long live the King!

AmorArmor.jpg

The English armies quickly moved against Brittany who had joined the Dauphins in their quest for the crown of France.

MineMineMine.jpg

The Dauphin forces were taken by surprise in Maine and they were forced to abandon the Castle.

In the South the English armies were also victorious against the Dauphins.

HenryDiesofShame.jpg

In August 1422 grave news fell upon England as King Henry V passed away leaving his son Henry VI to rule the nation.

HenryVI.jpg

Henry VI was crowned in London where it was decided that his regent was to be his uncle John Plantagen.

GuyDeLusignan.jpg

Soon after the death of the King and the crowning ceremonies good news came from France as new provinces had been acquired.

HenryofFrance.jpg

After the death of Henry V, Charles VI passed away leaving the crown of France to Henry VI instead of his own son because of the agreement made in Troyes.

WeHaveClaim.jpg

When Jacqueline of Hainault arrived to London the Regent of King Henry VI acted behind the Kings back and claimed the lands of Brabant to England.

It is time to settle the business of Succession.

Things are going well however.

There's no turning back now. You're firmly entrenched in the continent's political turmoil. Good luck.
