@Ciryandor: Yup, those are the only mech infantry units I have in the entire pacific theatre, at least, for the moment. Port moresby is Jungle terrain, so those Mech's do not do very well on the offensive. On the defensive however, Mech infantry are probably the best in the entire game for that task, especially when you are playing on furious where the AI constantly counterattacks you everywhere you go. Those mech's allow me to decisively hold the ground i take.

@salidas16: This AAR is solely gameplay, so it goes under that category.

@ColonelIronboot: Thanks. i have been saving that one for a decisive land victory. That picture pretty much says everything about the pacific war, a bunch of tired, dirty, but determined marines savoring their victory.

@everyone else, thanks for the comments!

In response to the American liberation of Formosa, Japanese forces launch a counteroffensive at, of all places, Guadalcanal. The enemy attack is easily repulsed by the island's large garrison force and its armoured cars, forcing the remnants of the Japanese landing force to retreat. Also note the Brazilian takeover of most of the Solomon Islands.

A massive reinforcement package, consisting of some 380,000 US troops, all heavily equipped with numerous brigades of light tanks, moves to the New Guinea theatre of operations, providing a huge boost to American combat power with their arrival.
newguineareinforcements.png

The United States now expands the scope of its southern pacific operations all throughout the former Dutch East Indies. First, the US navy escorts 90,000 US troops to the island of Borneo, succeeding in landing them on the island without incident.
invasionfleetborneo.png

borneolanding.png

Boosted by reinforcements, US forces launch another, massive assault on Port Moresby. This attack is launched against a reinforced Japanese/ANZAC/Manchu garrison, including 2 divisions of Japanese tanks. Despite their tenacity and stubborn resistance, Japanese and allied forces soon collapse under the huge American siege, with Port Moresby falling under US control.

portmoresbyvictory.png

As US troops move to secure the last portions of the Philippines still under Japanese control, the US fleet escorting them is intercepted by the remnants of Japan's 2nd carrier task force, which no longer possesses any aircraft carriers. Instead, the Japanese bring with them a large amount of very advanced heavy cruisers, equipped with radar, long range artillery, and powerful torpedoes. Despite possessing such advanced surface combatants, the Japanese are unable to close range with the US fleet, suffering heavy casualties, including the loss of many of these advanced warships, before finally retreating from the Philippines altogether.

US marines, under the command of former chief of the Pacific States of America's armed forces, Alexander Patch, begin landing operations on the Australasian occupied island of Sulawesi. The ANZAC garrison of the island, which is only lightly manned, is easily brushed aside, with US marines quickly securing their beach head and later gaining control over the entire island.
battleofmenado.png

90,000 US troops now land on the island of Java, facing little resistance along the coast.
invasionofjava.png

US marines clear out the major city of Batavia, defended by a very well equipped division of ANZAC infantry. Outnumbered, the enemy troops soon retreat, later surrendering completely as US forces clear Java of all enemy resistance.
battleofbatavia.png

As Java is cleared of enemy presence, another group of 90,000 US troops lands in southern Sumatra. These forces face no resistance as they come ashore, with Japanese presence on the island being very light.

The progress of the Pacific war by January 1st, 1948. US forces, having taken advantage of the near defeat of the Imperial Japanese Navy, have made huge progress in the area. The Philippines, Formosa, Borneo, most of New Guinea, Java, and soon Sumatra, have all fallen to US forces. Australasia and Japan are now completely cut off from one another, ending any ability to support each other militarily. Now, US forces will prepare to shift their advance from the west to the south, with the goal of knocking Australasia out of the war.
pacifictheatre1948.png

This will not be an easy task. Australasia, becoming desperate, has begun drafting every able bodied man into military service, to defend their homeland from an American assault. Past experience fighting against ANZAC troops elsewhere has taught the United States military that the ANZAC's are tough, determined fighters, willing to fight to the very last man in defense of their homeland. However, the United States armed forces are ready for the challenge, and are prepared to subdue the Australasian state once and for all!
geraldtonexercise194202.png

So Japan is saved for now.
How many divisions do the Australasians still have?

Well I voted. Anyway you could try to instead pull some stunts that get the Australasian Government to recognize the futility of the war and Surrender, like I don't know. launching a coup for example.

Kaiser do you have any thoughts for after Australia? (Yeah I know as if that's not big enough?)

If not may I suggest slamming into Japanese Vietnam and Korea for the purpose of cutting off the Home Islands from it's mainland empire?

Grab the island of Hainan and use it as a staging point to grab North Vietnam and move south from there. After that turn north and take Okinawa and Cheju-do. From there take Korea. At that point you can put the Home Islands under blockade and slam it out with a cut off IJA in China. Just be sure to turn the Yellow Sea, East China Sea and Sea of Japan into zones of death for anything with a Japanese or Japanese allied flag.

I also have a suggestion: ally, invade or gain military access through Yunnan to allow the sizeable Indian Army to hit Japan's Chinese holdings rather than being stopped by that bottleneck around Yunnan. Multi-front war ftw!

As ever, superb update. I also love the picture at the end, a taste of what's to come, I'm sure.

@Karaiskandar:IIRC, they had about 50 -70 divisions at this point in the game.

@CylonAndrew: Awesome aint it? It's supposed to be a 1942 pic of Australian troops on an exercise dealing with how to repel a Japanese invasion. Fits the in game situation pretty well.

@Midge: Soon, that song will be playing with American troops in Sydney, Wellington, Canberra, Melbourne, and later Tokyo!

@salidas16: Nah, that wouldn't be very exciting. I prefer the invasion then annexation method of dealing with the ANZAC's.

@frigidmagi: Unfortunately I have already played much farther in the game (its december 1950 in game right now), so I can't follow your suggestion. However, I think you will be quite pleased with how I do handle mainland Asia.

@Meadow: Yunnan isn't really a threat or a problem to the United States.

But to a Chinese republic.....

As US forces mass in southern New Guinea in preparation for the battle of Australia, Latin American forces from both Brazil and the Union of La Plata continue to hold their positions in Southern New Zealand. Without any proper naval support, they will unfortunately be unable to cross the strait into the more populated northern half of New Zealand.

Back in the United States, the completion of 3 more Midway class carriers allows Admiral Nimitz to form a new carrier task force, including the now repaired remnants of his fleet which was crushed by the Japanese off the coast of Rabaul.
taskforcenimitz.png

With the war now going very badly for Japan, after the Imperial Japanese Navy ran out of steam and Japan's pacific possessions were lost one by one to US and Allied forces, Japan has begun making desperate overtures for peace. The Japanese send offers promising huge territorial concessions to the United States, essentially handing over the entire pacific ocean to American control. However, the United States will accept nothing less than unconditional and complete surrender of both Japan and its allies, and turns down all of Japan's ridiculous offers.
desperatejapan.png

An air battle takes place between US and Japanese fighter's in the skies near (an amazingly undefended) Okinawa. The Imperial Japanese Airforce, still not used to fighting jet aircraft, is crushed by the use of brand new F-84 thunderjet fighters by the United States air force. These fighters are far more capable than the P-80's that preceeded them, and tear apart the Japanese formations.

American battleships sail to the Australian coast near the port city of Darwin, with the goal of examining ANZAC coastal defenses. In the process, they encounter a light cruiser, the ANS Perth, which is easily blown out of the water by heavy American naval artillery.

Allied reinforcements arrive in the pacific, from an unlikely place. Spain, of all countries, has succeeded in launching its own aircraft carrier, the ARNE La Falange. Although this help is more than welcome, it is doubtful that the Spanish navy could stand up to the still powerful Imperial Japanese fleet.
spanishcarrier.png

Another oddity comes from Africa, more specifically, South Africa, which is now enjoying the benefits of a massive industrial production program. The Afrikaner's have turned South Africa into an industrial powerhouse, with more IC than even the German colony of Freistaat Mittelafrika possesses.
africanindustrialpowerh.png

Finally, the day has come. 160,000 US troops, led by General Stillwell's army, hit the beaches of Australia at Darwin. The undermanned ANZAC garrison of the city is quickly overwhelmed by superior American numbers and firepower, with Darwin very quickly falling to US forces.
invasionofaustralia.png

In response, the Imperial Japanese navy sends whats left of its powerful heavy cruisers on a desperate "death ride" into the US fleet, in an attempt to cut the American supply lines to Australia and give the ANZAC's a chance to organize a counterattack. Unfortunately for the Japanese, the US navy's battleships are still in the area, and greet the Japanese cruisers with devastating volley's of long range radar guided artillery fire.
battleshipcruiserduel.png

The result is a complete rout of the Japanese fleet. 3 Japanese cruisers and a very large number of escorting destroyers are blasted out of the water, forcing the Japanese to limp back home with nothing to show for their efforts than many hundreds of dead sailors and the loss of more irreplaceable heavy surface combatants.
devastatingjapanesedefe.png

I have a fealing that an unpredictable Russia and the rivalry between Mittleafrica and South Africa's industrie will lead to the next great war, in this case world war 4. Think about it, 3 world wars in like 15 years!

Mmmh even with 50 divisions the Australasians are doomed.
Oh btw I really like what you did with the AI build, it's nice to see Spanish carriers, Brazillian armored divisions and so on.

A Spanish carrier... o_O

Did you mod their AI, Mobius? Or maybe you sold them an already renamed ship? It's a kind of magic? I've never seen Spain build a carrier before. Ever. In any game.

Now that Japanese power is waning you'd think the Australasians would leap at the chance to betray them, but if they want to do it the hard way it looks like you're ready to oblige them.

@CylonAndrew: When you look at it though, this war with the Japanese isn't exactly a world war, since it is largely confined to Asia and the Pacific ocean. The only war so far that I can consider a world war is the war against the Syndicalist Internationale, since that took place in the Atlantic, Africa, Latin America, and all over Europe.

@Karaiskandar: Thanks. If you love that, then you are going to love the armies that France, Britain, Germany, and Russia have built.....

@atty: Sorry, I don't like to post my modifications.

@Xesan: Hehe, same here.

@ColonelIronboot: I modded the AI's for many states. Spain wasn't actually one of them, but I did modify a generic AI that the Spanish seem to utilize in game. Believe me though, when I say I was very surprised to see Spain building carriers. They have been building lots of other stuff too, like tank divisions and a decent airforce too.

AI modification was something I really wanted to play around with in this AAR, especially since the KaiserReich AI's are not exactly the best to begin with. Seriously, most states just originally build tons of infantry. How can you fight a proper ww2 with just infantry, with no tanks, or carriers, or awesome high tech wunderwaffen?:D

@Undead-Hippie: As you will soon see, the Brazilians do a pretty good job of doing that instead.....

@Zhuge Liang: Maybe, but the ANZAC's have been pretty loyal to the Japanese ever since the coup in the late 1930's. The ANZAC's have gained a lot by siding with Hirohito's boys, such as nearly all of Indonesia.

But just as they have gained a lot, they will now see it all taken away.

US marines and infantry launch another invasion of Australia, this time, at the city of Perth. ANZAC defenses are quickly overrun, and another beachhead is established.

Back in the United States, the Navy gets its hands on some new toys. The massive Kitty Hawk class aircraft carriers are finally completed, giving the US navy a huge boost in its firepower. After organization, this powerful fleet of advanced carriers will head out into the Pacific, with the goal of wiping out the remnants of the Imperial Japanese Navy.

And then, an event of monumental importance takes place. Japan, once thought to be impregnable due to its powerful navy, suddenly finds its own homeland under threat, as Brazil lands an entire Armoured division in the city of Osaka, proceeding to destroy whatever Japanese industrial and military targets it can find. (Yeah!!! Go Brazil!!!)
holyshitbrazil.png

The Brazilian landing in Japan sends shockwaves throughout the entire world, shockwaves that reach the cities of Berlin and Moscow. On April 1st, 1948, Germany and Russia, afraid that a Japanese collapse will lead to all of Asia falling under Allied hands, declare war on Japan and its allies. Immediately, millions of Russian troops, which have been gathering along the Trans-Siberian railway for a few years now, supported by massive numbers of German and Russian aircraft, cross the border into Manchuria, Mongolia, and Transamur. The Pacific war has now taken a global turn, with all of Mitteleuropa now involved in the war against the Japanese empire.
germanyjoinsthefight.png

The United States government suddenly shifts its production focus from the navy back to the United States army, beginning a massive mobilization designed to give the United States the forces needed to not only continue the fight in Australia, but launch its own campaign in China.
armyexpansion1948.png

ANZAC forces begin launching their first large scale counterattacks near the city of Darwin. Here, 60,000 well equipped ANZAC troops assault an American infantry corps south of the city, threatening to overrun the US positions and cut the area of US control in two. However, their assault soon wears down as nightfall arrives and US mechanized infantry reinforcements arrive on the scene. US forces also break up the ANZAC assault by launching an offensive along the northeastern coastline.
anzaccounterattack.png

In response, US forces reorganize and chase the ANZAC troops deep into the outback, the massive desert that makes up the interior of the Australian continent. Enemy forces withdraw, hoping to stretch US forces out over the vast territory.
intotheoutback.png

The Brazilian armoured division which landed in Japan is wiped out by Japanese home defense forces. However, the damage is already done, with many industrial centres in Osaka being destroyed before the last Brazilian forces surrender.
brazilianskickedout.png

US marines seize control of Okinawa, a strategically important location for further advances towards not only Japan but possibly even Korea.
fallofokinawa.png

Good God, the Russians will have to hold off a ton of Japanese now before Germans arrive to the front.

As for AI, I totally agree with your statement that it isn't perfect. How about handing over the improved AI to Kaiserreich modteam so that they make our beloved mod even better? :D

Crazy Brazilians!
Now you have to seize Japan quickly, before the Russians land there.

This reminds me of a German game I had going in vanilla HoI2. Japan declared war on the US while getting destroyed in China and yet didn't even attack Pearl Harbor, the Philippines, or the Dutch East indies. So the US just invaded the Japanese Home islands.
