It won't avoid a revolution ethier way. And the dissent hit is about the same when you elect the Syndies. I've done it a few times and just end up switching to the CSA once the shit show starts and wiping out the Union State, USA, and PSA.

@stnylan: Three of them.

@Austria Hungary: thanks!

@Spitfire_Pilot: Correct. If I am not mistaken, a Reed or Long administration will eventually get overthrown by Macarthur and the army, setting off the civil war anyway.

@everyone else: thanks for your comments!

With pressure now mounting from both the America first union and the Combined syndicates of America, Current president Hoover makes a speech on the radio publicly supporting the new president elect Garner, and lambasting both the AF and the CSA parties for creating an unnecessary crisis.

In South America, an alarming event takes place. Brazil's government is overthrown by the trade unions, and a new Syndicalist government is installed. Now, one of the most powerful nations in South America is part of the global syndicalist international.

The new year 1937 begins, and with it, the election crisis takes an ugly turn. The combined syndicates of America party launches a massive labour strike in the northern midwest states, shutting down many factories and crippling industrial production. (I hate these events, not only do I get dissent, but my available IC drops by another 5%!)

In europe, the French are beginning to get very belligerent, announcing a massive armament program to actively prepare their entire nation for war.

Huey long, and his America First party, not wanting to be outdone by his northern rival Jack Reed, starts a massive rally in the southern states in support of his party, urging his followers to disrupt government operation and shut down local industries.

Tensions in the United States are now boiling over, and it is in this climate that the new President, John Nance Garner, is inaugurated as the new President of the United States.

With his administration now finally in place, President Garner takes immediate action to deal with this new crisis. President Garner begins direct federal involvement in solving the so called "new years strike" launched by the CSA in the northern industrial states.

In Asia, Japan's military regime adopts a policy of directly confronting Germany and its allies in the Pacific, in order to create its own empire.

The federal government gets a very interesting proposition from, of all people, Huey long, to solve the problem of the CSA strike. Long suggests shipping thousands of unemployed southern workers to the northern industrial cities to bring the industry back online. This plan is a very huge gamble. Although it could cool the anger of many in the south, bringing in non-local workers could inflame the supporters of the CSA. Garner decides to roll the dice, and send the workers north.

As soon as the workers arrive in cities like detroit and chicago, there is conflict. Strikers and southern workers immediately begin clashes with each other on the streets. Most worryingly, is the discovery that Minute Men militia have been somehow brought in with the southern workers, creating an explosive situation. The president immediately acts, ordering Federal troops to enter the city and protect the southern workers from CSA rioters, allowing the southerners to get to work in the factories and get the industry back online.

Well, now it's time for serious business.
Good luck!

The question is how quickly this will descend to a civil war...

Things do seem to be heating up nicely.

Very nice. Will follow.

Also, please don't go syndicalist, pretty much every kaiserreich American AAR does that.

... except that NO ONE ever does that. Or if someone has, please point me to that AAR. I have never seen anyone play Combined Syndicates in Kaiserreich, yet there are atleast 4 AARs about USA.

So it seems. Gotta read that one, thanks for posting the link :)

But it hardly justifies the claim "pretty much every..."

Im downloaded the mod cause this AAR makes it sounds so fun!

In New York City, a massive explosion tears through the city's harbour, causing an immense amount of damage and killing a very large amount of people. FBI agents determine after a number of interviews with eyewitnesses that the explosion was caused by a ship that had moored up in the harbour only minutes before. FBI agents check the ships records in the harbor master's office, and find that the ship was coming to the city from Brest, France. After navy divers discover traces of explosives, as well as undetonated artillery shells, on the bottom of the harbour, it is determined that this ship was smuggling illegal weapons to syndicalist extremists.

As the crises with both the CSA in the north and the AFU in the south continue, national dissent skyrockets, combined with the panic caused from the Valentines Day Explosion, civil disruption is now back to January 1936 levels.
crippledindustry.png

In Chicago, federal soldiers find themselves under attack by massive mobs of CSA influenced workers, who throw both rocks and molotov cocktails at US soldiers and national guardsmen. Whats worse, is that the federal workers from the southern states are now relying on AFU private militia's for their security, leading to direct clashes between the CSA and AFU in the streets.
chicagoclashes.png

Meanwhile, in Europe, the Austro-Hungarian empire splits, with the Hungarians leaving the union between the two countries. This development is a huge blow to the government in Vienna.
weakaustrians.png

With violence in the north mounting, Huey long offers to send his minute men paramilitaries to cities like Chicago and Detroit, to fight side by side with US government troops and put down the riots. President Garner, already dealing with an explosive situation, flatly denies Long's offer. This denial however backfires, as Long's supporters in the south view this as evidence that the President is soft on syndicalism.
minutementhugs.png

The crisis in the northern cities now goes over the breaking point, as CSA supporters begin ambushing federal troops in the streets of Chicago. This time however, they are not attacking with bottles and rocks, but with rifles, hand grenades, shotguns, and even machine guns. Federal soldiers find themselves without any answer to these heavily armed militants, with local commanders ordering US forces to withdraw from Chicago.
csavsfeds.png

As US troops withdraw under fire from Chicago, the leadership of the Combined Syndicates of America goes on the radio to announce the so called "proletarian American revolution". As if on cue, CSA militants take to the streets of cities all across Illinois, Ohio, and Michigan, as well as cities like Milwaukee and St Louis. Federal authority in these regions collapses under this assault.
csaindependence.png

Jack Reed now declares the independence of the Combined Syndicates of America. Setting up his office in the Illinois governors residence, Reed announces a state of war between the United States and his new syndicalist country. Meanwhile, Canada announces the implementation of Defense Scheme 1, massing thousands of heavily armed soldiers in Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick.
civilwarbegins.png

In the south, Huey Long declares the end of the United States, rallying his supporters behind a new nation, the American Union State. Immediately, Minute Men paramilitaries and AFU party members hit the streets all over Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, and Mississippi, seizing control of local and state government offices and storming the legislatures of these states.
ausindependence.png

And so, it has begun. After many years of simmering anger and extensive preparation, the 2nd American civil war has started. All options to avoid this conflict have failed, and the time has come to stop the forces of radical socialism and right wing extremism through armed confrontation. Just like in 1861, the United States will not falter, and will not stop until total victory is achieved!

A house divided cannot stand.

But if you destroy one side of the house, you might at least be left with a lean-to to take shelter from the storm :)
