JUNE-AUGUST 1945

The German offensive in Italy was given a huge and dramatic boost after 12 Allied divisions were encircled in the hills of central Italy.German troops slowly squeezed their grip before the Allied troops surrendered.Thousands were taken prisoner.
The German offensive has now reached Naples and Allied resistance has been getting progressively weaker.

RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE:SOUTH-EASTERN FRONT

After months of small skirmishes on the front line the Soviet Army launched a much larger offensive in August.Russian troops have almost broken through the German lines close to the Hungarian border.Luftwaffe squadrons have been redeployed from northern Italy to assist defensive operations.
A significant Russian breakthrough in this area could jeopardize the entire Eastern Front. With success in Italy virtually assured, the German High Command has to focus on the Red Army.Several strategies are currently under consideration.

AUGUST 15TH,1945.

Wolfsschanze("The Wolf's Lair")

On the 15th August,1945,Hitler and his leading generals met for several hours at the Wolf's Lair to discuss the situation on the Eastern Front, just as Russian Forces were breaching the German defensive lines across several provinces alongside the Hungarian border. It was a meeting that was heated, emotional and opinionated. It was perhaps the most important war cabinet of the conflict. The decision that was finally reached on this hot and humid summer's day could settle the outcome of the entire war.
Hitler had turned up at the meeting certain that the lines could be held.Reinforcements from the Balkans and the 14th Army from Italy would arrive in time and push the Russians back, according to the Fuhrer. Those around him though knew that his optimism was short-sighted.By the time reinforcements arrive it would be too late. Many of the divisions on the front line had been worn down by weeks of fighting.Organisation and morale was low, and many brigades were badly in need of reinforcements. They also argued that even if the front line was held,an offensive would never be possible.Since the large scale retreat of June'44,the Armies on the Eastern Front had never been able to fully reorganize. In addition, their effectiveness as a functional offensive force was hindered by many weak and poorly trained Romanian and Hungarian divisions. The elite units, especially the armored divisions were spread out thinly across the entire front, limiting their effectiveness.
The idea was put forward to Hitler that a large-scale retreat of all of the armored, mechanized, motorized divisions as well as the most capable of infantry divisions was necessary. These would be reorganised into new armies, capable of successful offensive and defensive actions.Remaining divisions would be left on the front line, to hold the Red Army for as long as possible, to give enough time for the retreat westwards to be carried out.Furthermore, the capable and experienced,battle-hardened German 10th and 19th Armies would soon be able to be redeployed from Italy, further enhancing the potency of the newly created armies.Another army, containing advanced super-heavy armored divisions was close to being finished in Germany.Hitler's generals argued that the assembly of several well-organised and powerful armies was the only possible way that the Red Army could be defeated.
Of course, Hitler was furious. The idea of such a retreat seemed like defeat. However, after a private meeting with Himmler and Goebbels he reluctantly accepted the idea, vowing that the troops left to hold the Eastern Front would fight and die as heroes for the good of the Fatherland.
Operation Wiedergeburt was born, and so was the war's biggest gamble...

You're making surprisingly good progress in Italy, fantastic! The Eastern Front looks as awful as usual, let's hope your plans work out...

Operation Wiedergeburt

Mid-August,1945.Operation Wiedergeburt begins.A massive tactical withdrawal, the largest logistical operation in German military history is underway.

2 fronts down 1 to go

Ya, just divert as many troops as possible to the East. Get like 100-200 Garrison Divisions and place them (1-3 each province) on and near important places in Norway, Germany, Denmark, France and Italy. :D:D:D:D:D

Operation Wiedergeburt:September 1945 Update

German 19th Army moves swiftly across Sicily.Allied forces nearing total defeat. It is hoped the success will soon also allow the German 19th Army to be redeployed to the east once sufficient garrisons are put in place in southern Italy and Sicily.

hoi33.jpg

Russian offensive pushes against the old "pre-Wiedergeburt" defensive line in the north.

hoi34.jpg

Operation Wiedergburt has been a partial success. The vast majority of German forces have successfully been moved to new defensive positions and reorganized into strong new armies.Much of this success has been apparent in the north and center of the Eastern Front.
However,in the south the speed of the Russian advance and the deteriorating situation in Bulgaria from a strong new Turkish offensive has put the whole of the operation in jeopardy. It is anticipated that the German armies in these areas will not be able to organize sufficiently in time to halt the Russian offensive. The decision has been made by the German High Command to abandon Romania,Bulgaria and Greece. This decision was not made lightly, yet has been deemed necessary to prevent disaster across the entire eastern front.

Sucks for 1/2 of the Axis countries, LOL
