Victoria 2 - Forum Rules and Why and How to Register your Game

All Rules for the general forum as outlined in the user agreement for registering with Paradox are in force in this forum.

Forum Rules.

Pay particular attention to the following :

• You will respect the rights of other users to have their own opinions.
• You will not use expressions that are considered foul, vulgar, sexually harassing, racially offensive or in any way discriminatory. These expressions include, but are not limited to, ethnic slurs, hate speech and religious epithets. Whether an expression fits under this definition will be determined by Paradox staff at the time.
• You will not make posts that are inflammatory with the perceived intent to rile people up (i.e. "trolling" and "flaming" are prohibited).
• You will not flood or post on the forums redundant, empty, or nonsensical posts or advertisements as determined by Paradox staff (i.e. no "spamming").

The following additional rules apply for this forum:

• As with Victoria, there will not be any kind of "extermination of minorities" or "ethnic cleansing" in Victoria 2. Thus, there is no need to ask about their presence in the game. People who continue to do so will be warned and, if they persist, banned.
• There has been a dramatic increase in the number of threads that are evolving into long-winded, technical historical debates regarding specific political, social or economic events, mostly relating to the Victoria period but more than occasionally involving conditions after the Victoria game-time period. And more than occasionally, these discussions have been turning into personal soapbox diatribes for some posters to grind axes towards either certain historical targets or, worse, against fellow posters who share alternative opinions.
  
  While a bit of historical discussion is going to be expected in a forum like this, I would remind posters that this forum is focused primarily on gameplay, what it will be like, what features will be included, and once the game is released, how gameplay works and strategies for successful gameplay.
  
  Therefore please keep the technical discussion of historical questions, economic theory, social theory and the like for posting on either the Off Topic or History forums in the Fun Forum section of the Paradox Website. This forum should not be seeing dozens of posts debating military strategy of specific generals, or long analayses of economic theory, or massive rehashing of ideological opinions. That is what the fun forums are for, and for the effectiveness of this forum to do its primary task, please use the fun forums for the long debates that have in some ways distracted from the purpose of the Victoria 2 forum.
• Unless it relates to actual gameplay mechanics as planned or implemented in Victoria 2, the discussion regarding whether the current generation of Paradox games have the right balance of historical content vs gameplay flexibility is beyond the scope of this forum and should be taken to a general forum such as the Off Topic forum.
• Threads/posts touching the subject of Israel - Palestine, or anything remotely linked to Arab-Jews relationship are forbidden.

Further additions to the rules that will apply specifically to this forum will be posted as they are needed.

With the imminent release of Victoria II please be aware that a proper display of decorum and polite discourse to be maintained in this forum. To ensure that goal, the following notices are being made now and will be rigourously enforced :

Pure spam posting, that is posts that have nothing to do with the original topic of a given thread or do not add any content of substance to the topic under discussion will not be tolerated in this forum, especially now as the expected inrush of new forum members, as at other times of new title release, will likely increase the strain on the forum servers. The forum moderators and Paradox administrators have the final decision regarding what is considerded spam and what is considered acceptable, and those who do post spam will be assesed infraction points upon their accounts.

Paradox welcomes and actively encourages constructive criticism when it comes to the discussion of gameplay features and design. However, those who offer criticism should do so in a polite manner designed to encourage discussion on how to address differences on how gameplay functions should operate that may arise between player understanding and developer design. It is expected that a respectful tone will be maintained by posters when raising their points for discussion, and any post that disrespects or outright insults members of the Paradox staff, the moderators of this forum or other posters who have a difference of opinion on a given topic will result in the relevant infractions being assigned to the poster of the offensive material. The forum moderators and Paradox administrators have the final decision regarding whether a post is in their opinion disrespectul or insulting.

In the end the utility of this forum is as much based on how each and every one of us utilizes the forum and behaves when interacting with others. A forum that becomes toxic because of the obnoxious behavior of a certain fraction of posters loses its utility as both a channel of communication and as a platform for interchange between players. Those posters who feel the need to bring a Jerry Springer Show-mentality to this forum should consider finding another forum in which to engage their bile, as such behavior will not be tolerated in this forum during this period of commercial release of this long-awaited title.

So you have bought Victoria II. Congratulations!

And now you wonder why you should bother to register it.

Why you should register:
When you register the game you are allowed full access to the Tech Support, Bug Reports, Multiplayer and User modifications subforums.

In addition to that, you gain access to the FAQ (which includes the Strategy guide), tech support, bug reporting, multiplayer and user modifications subforums.

NOTE: You will not receive any support on the forum unless you register!
This is because Paradox wants to avoid wasting time tracking down bugs that only exist in illegal copies.

Also only people who have their game registered will be able to start threads in any of the Victoria II forums.

Privacy issues
One common reply from people who don't want to register is concerns about privacy - "I don't want to give away my address so you can spam me with junk"
Simply register the game by entering the key provided into the correct slot under "my games/registrations" It does not ask you for any additional personal information whatsoever, and is only connected to your account info you yourself provided at the time of registration for posting here on Paradox forums, so that the system will only recognize the game as belonging to the account created here. That is all.

Players did not want games that contained any form of anti-piracy software directly on the software that so many other game companies utilize and make such software difficult to use, hence this system of registration, which allowes Paradox to have some way to ensure that access to game improvements is provided to those who legitimately acquired the software. This system makes no further requests for information other than that which you already have associated with the account you created here and the key that came with the game itself.

If you still don't want to register, you can use the Web form to get support by e-mail.

How to register
At the top of the forum page, there is a link named My Games. To register, you go here and enter your key.

If you have bought the game in a store and have a physical copy, the key is on the back of the manual. If you have bought the game from GamersGate, the key is on that website under "My Games".

If you bought the game through Steam; right click on the game in Steam to bring up a menu that has viewing the CD key as an option.

If your key does not work, contact http://paradox.zendesk.com

Note that, once you have registered, there is no official procedure to "unregister"; so if you intend to give the game as a gift or sell it second-hand you should not register, so that the final recipient can register it in their own name.
