The coalition will probably fall apart sooner or later. BUT the question is: If in the meantime Finland and Georgia trade Indonesia and China the resources they need to build their armies and navies, where in the world will the two use them?

They could pull an early invasion of Africa. Or invade the weakly defended American pacific coast. Considering how Varyar hauled the population of the Americas off to his weird Italianopolis/Atacama mountain capital, the continent may be largely empty of people but that doesn't mean the resources are gone too.

Breaking the American navies early on and gaining a foothold on the pacific coast could determine the course of the following 20 years of warfare. Where will the battlefields of this age be? Whose cities will prosper, and whose will burn?

KoM should write us an account of the Yngling travelers who journeyed from Ohio to California and saw nothing but empty deserts, forests and then a little fishing village at the spot where San Francisco ought to be. :) How much manpower to the Italian provinces outside Italianopolis contain?

"Bigger picture"

If one would want to analyse spatial distribution of population and industrial jobs in America he would be surprised. 90% of Italian industry is located in it's capital and surrounding counties creating huge magnet for residents of underdeveloped rural regions which is...well basically everything else. So there is no doubt where power center of South and, maybe even whole America is.

Norwegian America lacks clear center, various cities compete for workforce and government funds and while Syracuse is ahead, even it doesn't reach 15 IC mark. Despite it's low population this continent has exploited it's significant natural resources better than, lets say China, and that is it's biggest advantage.

Asia has always been most populous continent and as such it was inevitable that it will one day rule the rest of the world, assuming it is spared of bloody strife between it's various inhabitants. During industrial revolution 3 core areas emerged. One of them is Japanese Islands, which currently holds about 80 IC total. Also 2 regional centers - Tokyo and Hiroshima is located here.

Chinese being one of oldest civilizations were rather slow to develop it's considerable human and nature's potential due to several bloody wars. But when it started, what a leap it was. In East China is located 2 cities with continental significance. Goods is transported by countless canals and rivers, Huanhe and Jandzi beeing most important, to distant markets overseas and developing cities further inland.

Thirdly there is Indonesia. Country of humble origin have conquered what is most of SE,S Asia and Australasia. These conquests, have affected country more than one could imagine. No longer Singapore and nearby islands has such influence as it had 150 years ago. Industrial core land now is Ganges valley. Huge cities is situated here, by now it's hard to tell apart where one starts and one ends and whole agglomeration, called Rangpur exert world like no other, except, maybe Arequipa.

Georgia and Finland, both being huge countries, have expanded from one center that has continued to dominate. For Finland it is Novgorod, and later fertile triangle between Caspian see, Crimea and St. Peterburg.

For Georgia it is Caucasian mountains and Caspian shoreline. While none even thinks about swimming in Caspian sea due to horrible pollution from all the industrial complexes and fuel refineries around it, it still holds significant meaning in minds for ordinary Georgian. And not only Georgian, but Persian, Turkmeni and Finnish too for it is what unites them (because Georgian railroads is so terrible that ferry is often safer means of transportation :p)

Considerable decentralization makes defining European industrial core very hard task. If I would have been forced to describe it by one word that would be France. Foggia is only city with continental significance and is most likely to retain it's position. French industrial centers is wide spread denying their opponents ability to take it out with one, well aimed stroke, but also forcing them to defend everything except maybe Mediterranean coastline - that is if alliance between those 2 countries becomes a reality. African warlords have taken great care to develop each it's tribe equally making war in Africa very logistic intensive and relatively fruitless. Most of industry is no further than 200 km inland, though.

While Norway has claimed that it's power center has shifted to America it's European territories still holds impressive amount of industry, especially British isles. One has to wonder what would hurt them more - loosing American, or European territories ?

Of German speaking countries only Germany is worth mentioning. It's core areas is in northern part of country, where terrain is better for agriculture and supporting huge populations. Of Prussian cities only Prague is close to 15 IC, but doesn't quite break that limit - industrial development here is mostly thanks to German eagerness to exploit considerably lower wages just across the border.

Very interesting setup here. The distribution of IC seems to lend itself greatly to defensive turtling by major powers, most notably Italy. France and Norway on the other hand seem forced towards offensive since that would be the best defense for their spread out realms. China and Indonesia appear to have fairly concentrated industry but with borders being so close to each other they appear very vulnerable to strategic bombing so turtling may not be an option.

Is there a chance you could also add the markers for provinces with IC >10 and IC > 5 to the maps? Or maybe a color-hue map where color shows IC number in the provinces? In Europe, Asia and North America it is otherwise very difficult to see how industry is spread out. :)

They can compete for workforce all they want, but as for government funds they get zilch. Our economy is the freest in the world and will remain so. :nods:

Germany is the only german speaking country. Prussia(Bohemia) speaks Czech. :p

It is a turbulent age.

The twelve great empires that rule the world have acquired unprecedented wealth, unparallalelled splendour. Although it is truly said that nothing is beyond dreams of avarice, a king of olden days would need an excellent imagination, indeed, to dream of the life of a modern merchant. One might expect men living in such luxury to grow less warlike... if one knew nothing of men.

The fruits of industrialisation are not evenly spread; for nations and for individuals, the old adage remains true, "Them as has, gets". Class envy and class warfare roil the smoke-grey manufacturing cities, and the heads of industry sit uneasy in their dividend-built mansions. Nor are the heads of state more secure; the price of long continuity is long history, and every nation has a grudge against every other, and new means to make it felt.

Hard problems often invite easy solutions; in China, in Finland, and in Africa, regimes elected by the newly united working class promise largesse to keep their cities quiet, and glare across their borders at those states which do not temper their capitalism - their oppression and exploitation, as it is more often put - with redistribution. In defeated Georgia, a violent revanchism has turned society upside down... and not all that floats to the top is cream. There are no class riots to spoil the unity of the Georgian nation. The regime would have you believe that there are not even any class resentments, that all such have been done away with by the corporate State; and as far as visible complaint goes, they are right. What the secret police finds in its night raids and basement interrogations remains a matter for the ever-growing archives at Baku.

Perhaps oddly, Norway has remained largely immune to this turbulence. Magnus Vidarsson's rhetoric, very similar to the new policy of Georgia, has fallen on stony ground; his National Labour Alliance remains a fringe organisation, able to riot, but not to elect. It is hard to raise discontent in a nation un-invaded for a century, with ample land for anyone who can work it. As for the rhetoric of the Will's Triumph, of taking joy in one's own strength and the power to crush enemies, there are many in Norway who will nod in recognition, but few who will vote or fight to base national policy on it. There has always been a strain of the uptime Yngling ideology in Norwegian politics, and by long exposure the polity has become, if not immune, at least resistant. Ideas which are fresh and new - and soothing to wounded national pride - in Georgia have, in Norway, all the rousing electricity of day-old bread.

It is in some sense ironic that democracy should have such defenders; that the Ynglings, of all peoples, should finally learn moderation, only to find themselves fighting against the very ideas they have at last abandoned. But if there is irony, there is also, perhaps, comfort. Whatever their flaws - and they remain, no doubt, many; the ruling elite without flaw has not yet been raised to power - Ynglings are not given to appeasement, and they believe in paying attention to the words of their foes. If the empires of the east remain true to their current course, there will be war.

metropolis-cityscape.jpg

Its architecture evokes in every Italian pride, joy and a profound sense of satisfaction that Signore Varyar, or "il direttore", as they call him, is always there to watch over his country.

metropolis18.jpg

He is the man who has the direct link to the Norwegians and their leader, the feared Konge of Mennen.

metropolis04.jpg

Often he is alone in his offices, pondering how to best steer his nation through the storms that threaten free nations.

Litte do his people know of the troubles that Il direttore has to worry about. For Italianopolis is not just city of industry, it is also the city of sin, and when weekend comes, its millions of people head out into the vast plazas and underground bars to celebrate dance and celebrate to the sounds of the newest Italian Giazz music.

Rofl, nice guide to the Italian capital Leviathan :D (even if it's technically called Nova Carinthia). What movie is the pics from?

I always envisioned the place as a mix between early 20th century New York/LA, and Ankh-Morpork :p
