A Practical Guide for Small Countries

PERSPECTIVE: This AAR will explore the capabilities and limits of small countries.
TITLE: "A Practical Guide for Small Countries"
SCENERIO: Various small countries in the "1936 The Road to War" scenerio.


This link is to the origional v1.3 guide, now obsolete.

This link is to the newly revised, and current edition for v1.4.

MODS: None (so that the methods may be used in multiplayer)

STYLE: This is an informational gameplay AAR

VERSION: HOI3 v1.4

PLAYERS: Single player, single country AAR, and multi-player

LEVEL: NORMAL

OBJECTIVE: To explore small country management and development.

DATE: Start date is Jan 19, 2010. This is a single-shot AAR, no updates are planned.

Settings: Normal
Goals:
1) Explore Force Composition Challenges faced by Japan
2) Record a Baseline v1.3 Normal Game to be used for Quantitative Analysis
3) In Game: Establish a Pan-Asian zone of control
Start Date: Play Started 1/2/2010, Posting started 1/23/2010
End Date: Finished May 2010 due to upgrade to patch 1.4

Results: Game ended in 1942 with Japanese victory in China and against USSR and UK. Included successful conquest of India and Australia, but US would not join the allies so game play became stagnant. Overall the AAR is a good example of how to play the early to mid Sino-Japanese War. Baseline unit and economic stats taken for the game.

Scenario: 1936 GC
Difficulty: Normal

Type: Gameplay-Historybook?
AI: Everything in the country is human controlled.
Goal: Defeat the worldwide Axis.

I've modified the game as follows:
  • Extended game end date.
  • Lowered USA neutrality to 0.
  • Removed all historical (non-random) decisions and events.
  • Allies initially at war with Axis.
  • USA and Philippines start in Allies.
  • All other countries start in Axis.

Could someone clarify the difference between Narrative and Historybook?

I have been influenced greatly by the HBO Miniseries: Band of Brothers to take you along the journey of the 502nd who fought alongside the famed 506th Regiment. It has been written as through the use of diary entries in the form of a book written by the grandson of one of the soldiers! ENJOY!

Normal Difficulty, No Mods
Almost Exclusively Gameplay, with explanations.

My intent with this AAR (my first, BTW) is to walk through a starting setup for Germany, focusing on those critical first few days, months, and years of gameplay. If there's sufficient interest shown, I will continue, otherwise I will summarize short and long-term goals and end the AAR around January, 1939.

I have played dozen's of HOI3 games, but this will be my first with the 1.4 patch. I will try and point up differences as I notice them in Game.

Germany Grand Campaign game beginning in 1936.
1.4 Version.
Difficulty : normal.
No mods.

My first AAR on this forum and with that game. As U'll notice, it's hosted in the English section but it's written in French (a traduction'll soon be available). It's due to a rights problem that I hope 'll be updated shortly.
