It looks an easy walk to Bagdad and Kuwait city. And then? Sea Lion? Your Italy looks strong enough.

The Royal Navy appears unwilling to break out, the Italian navy appears too weak to bomb the Brits to the bottom of the Med... But you do have the RN locked away nicely. So take the long view: if you wait long enough, all those British sailors will age and die - and ships without a crew are just as useless as sunken hulks.

Surely Il Duce, with dreams of recreating the Roman Empire, can wait a mere fifty years to straighten things out? ;)

Enewald: Why would there be any such thing? ;)

Sokraates: Yeah there've been a couple attempts, though only this one took place during December I believe. And I think the British are sent back to Tel Aviv. They lost the battle, certainly. As for the losses, yeah, though it'll be a while before that information's available! :p

Gladiator: Iraq is neutral at the moment. I may go further, given its resources in oil, but haven't decided yet. :p

EvilFishtank: Yeah. A bit disappointing, really. Such a cakewalk that those were literally the only three screenshots I had for that period of time. :p

Stuyvesant: Mussolini is patient, but not that patient. :D

A question--why haven't you been using Turkey as a base of operations in order to attack the northern middle east?

I have a better reason: Joining the African theater of operations with the European one will immediately cause severe supply problems, as the AI cancels all the supply convoys and routes them through the Thrace-Istanbul-Anatolia bottleneck.

Happened to me in my German GC'36 game. My solution was to build a line of infrastructure to level 10 from Berlin to Ankara & beyond. But then, I could afford to spend ~ 200 IC (out of 800+) on infrastructure projects in that game... As Italy, I currently have ~ 150IC in '37, and I doubt all his conquests brought Myth above 250 IC.

Seems Mussolini finally has his place under the sun :D. Is Iraq part of the allies? Whats next, Arabia or the Sudan?

teamgene: Hmm...I kind of see it...ah well. Only sick, twisted minds like yours would interpret it that way. ;)

Merrick Chance': No access. Also, logistical reasons. And its a very long way away from my objectives. :p

Baltasar: Yes. :p

anweRU: This too. :D

FlyingDutchie: Iraq is neutral at the moment. As for Sudan, the only interest I have down there is its port, really. :p

Just as a heads up, I've only got two more updates before this year is done and I've not yet played 1941 yet! Also, I'm flying home on Friday for Christmas vacation. Basically, what this means is that while this year will most likely be wrapped up before I fly, there may be a slight delay in starting the next year as I overcome jetlag, and also actually play that year. :p

Oh yeah, and I'll see if I can write an update for tonight. The usual. :p

I was wondering about your supply situation earlier in the wars vs yugoslavia/greece/romania. In my recent game, AI Italy defeated Yugoslavia before Greece, then kicked the Greeks out of every province except Salonica. Why Salonica? Because all their supply was routed through the one province near the Italy/Yugoslavia border which mean that their army was 90% out of supply next to Salonica. Just wondering how you managed to deal with that bottleneck :).

quetzilla: I attacked Greece from two, later three, angles, remember. My Yugoslavian provinces were only supporting Roatta's corps, spread over the entire north Greek border. Gambara's corps was supplied by convoy and from Athens. Ago's corps attacked, when it did, with its supply coming from Turkey. :p

No update tonight unfortunately. Class today was exhausting. Update tomorrow though! :p

Oh well. Looking forward to next update. I have only one request, can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE *breath* PLEASE PLEASE pleeeease post a world map at the end of the year? I really want to see the extent of Italy at this point, and get a good grip on what's going on.

On a completely unrelated note, how large is the Regia Marina right now, and how large do you estimate is the British fleet in the Med?

Kman211: I do have such a map, yes. As for the Regia Marina, it's a considerable fleet. The Mediterranean Fleet aline, however, is probably bigger than the entire Regia Marina. Remember that when it fled from Alexandria there were some 80 ships. :p

Update tonight, I promise! :p

I guess you should capture British islands in Med Sea, if you want an easy task when dealing with Med fleet. Assuming it didn't escape through Gibiltair, of course. I wonder if someone got the Gibiltair bug fixed....

About Iraq... It's neutral, but you are not..... And it just keeps sending its extra oil to your enemy.

Gladiator: I'm not particularly concerned about Britain's oil supplies when nearly a third of its entire navy is (hopefully) trapped in the Med. ;)

Update coming up!

The Year Italy Joined the World War
Part 15: Technology and Production, July – December, 1940

Research-wise, the last six months of 1940 were primarily devoted to doctrine, both for army and navy. The army, however, received orders for the development of new weaponry as well, as did the air force, though to a smaller extent.

In July, as the war with Romania still raged, a number of improvements were made to Italian army doctrine. Their supply organization and central planning were advanced in the first week of July, doctrinal issues that Mussolini ordered continually improved. In July’s last week, the army was able to improve its tactics for mass assaults and its operational skill with large fronts. These general staff studies were also continued. Finally, in the direct aftermath of the Romanian War, Mussolini brought Italian research projects back up to fifteen by putting in an order for the development of a new rifle for Italian infantry. Finally, on the eve of the war to conquer Bulgaria, Italy’s radar technology was advanced again, a project that Mussolini replaced with an order for new artillery for the infantry.

Further radar advances in Italy.

Two weeks into the war with Britain, Italy developed an electronic computing machine, whose impact on future Italian research was anticipated to be significant. This project was replaced by a joint navy-air staff study on port strike tactics for bombers. Supply transportation was also improved in October, as the Italians were racing toward Alexandria. This completed project was replaced by an air staff study concerning naval bomber tactics. The last project to be completed in October was another general staff study on central planning, to which Mussolini ordered another successor. November then began, and began with a development in fighter and light bomber fuel tanks, thus increasing their range, as well as the small arms advance ordered in August. These two projects were replaced by the development of a new light warplane engine and an infantry anti-tank gun, respectively.

By the time Bergonzoli had reached the Suez Canal, another advance was made in Italian mass assault tactics and yet another successor to this general staff study was undertaken. And then, finally, results starting coming in from the naval staff concerning its fleet carrier doctrine. On the 13th of November, the first study on carrier group doctrine was published, and a successor immediately endorsed. Soon after Alexandria finally fell, the light cruiser escort role was for the first time officially argued, and naval underway replenishment was theorized. These two studies also spawned successors. With the Mediterranean Fleet on the run from the Regia Marina and Regio Esercito, naval air targeting was improved, and this study was also continued. Finally, with the Mediterranean Fleet blockaded in Tel Aviv, carrier crew training was advanced, as was the army’s large front doctrine. Both studies were continued.

The army’s large front doctrine was advanced, as was the navy’s carrier crew training.

The final spurt of research came in the last two weeks of December. Radar training onboard carriers was improved, as was light cruiser crew training. Both studies were, of course, continued. Also at this time, Mussolini finally began expanding his army further. He ordered that two corps of infantry be trained over time, each to be comprised of three infantry divisions. These infantry divisions were, however, to be comprised of three regiments each, rather than two, thus making them much hardier and more powerful units. Mussolini already knew where they were going to be deployed: in either Romania or Turkey, on the Soviet border. He was going to take no chances with his powerful neighbor to the east.

Italian procurement and production by the end of the year.

And so the year ended for technology and doctrine. It was a beneficial year, particularly for the army and the navy, as for both doctrine was advanced heavily. Furthermore, the army also began getting new weaponry with which to fight its foes on land, though given that its foes were nearly nonexistent this was not a particularly pressing issue at the moment. Mussolini was thinking to the future, and further conquests, however. He was keen to establish his navy as the foremost in the world, and his army as at least sufficient for the needs of wide-ranging conquest.

AreoHotah: I've honestly not really given much thought to what I'll do after securing the Med. This is part of the reason why I'm procrastinating on playing, the other reasons being about being busy and that sort of thing. :p

It takes a FULL commitment to either of these two options.

1) Africa. You need to port hop, or slog your way down all the way though africa to south africa. Tough, and long. Little reward other than it hurts the allies a lot and makes the trip to india much more dangerous for them

2) Middle east/ india. Not always really tough, but can be from time to time. (not sure why) Mostly I hate it because of needing to keep troops there for a long time over a broad area to keep revolts down.

The last does not take a huge commitment, but is kinda boring. Wait for the war with SU. Like I said boring.

The only reason I lay this out is I want you to get back to playing so that I can have more updates!:p:rofl:
