I have played the pirate bay expansion for a few hours and noticed it was quite easy for ships to get combat experience(the yellow stars next to the crossed swords in the ship icon) but for some reason the navigation experience (yellow star next to the anchor in the ship icon) seems to raise very slowly.

I' m using 3 frigates and in 1656 all 3 frigates have 4 or 5 stars for combat experience but only one has a star for navigation experience and I have no idea how I got it.

Could someone please explain how to get navigation experience for ships?

Thank you.

Navigation xp comes from just sailing.

Related note: casualties to the crew does not reduce either xp. After all, the remaining crew is as experienced as before, there's just less of them which gives its own handicaps.

When you hire new crew in port to replace the losses, that's when the xp drops as newbie crewmembers come aboard.
