No need to be ashamed sir. We all made that mistake and thought the figures mentioned divisions at first.

Not me :D Upon seeing how large the numbers were in your first AAR I figured they had to be brigades; the fact that divisions aren't really comparable anymore due to different number of brigades per division also led me to suspect that it must be so.

There were more holes in the front-line then there are in an Edammer (or Swiss) cheese.
The first actual proof of your Dutch lineage showing through (it's Edam Cheese, and only in the Low Countries renowned for it's holes). Not bad after so many pages of flawless English! I doubt that many a reader would have noticed... ;)

And thanks for that secret weapon screenie. Looks like we have to revamp that one up to CORE standards once we start migrating. The rest looks pretty good though. And love your AAR - keep 'em coming! :)

May I recommend heavy armor divisions ftw? :D

Can't do as I have only researched tech as far as light tanks.-> BETA

IIRC, he did say it, but this is mostly my assumptions, as those divisions that we have seen are at complete strength. Also, upgrade slider has IC need and reinforcement doesn't.

Yes, all units are at 100%

Thanks for this thread and the three AAR's, the screen shots (and Johan's goodie updates) have sold me on this game. I was going to wait for the demo but I just preordered it. Paradox owes you a free game at least :)

Flawless  sorry but I am sure it's not. ;)

Ok guys, thanks for the patience.
I have had a lot of work this weekend (worked to 24:00 making vector files yesterday and had to be at the bailiff's this morning) so I didn't have had the time to play and write. I will play tonight and write tomorrow......perhaps, if you are lucky even today.

as a fellow Dutchie, all the best Singleton with the war. With all your divs on full strength, lots of oil and manpower and a not to bright strategic AI, you actually stand a pretty good chance to wack those Allies and Ruskies. Waiting to see

many german divisions were down to 33% authorized strength, which represents the inability to reinforce them. That being said, they should still start with 0 in the pool, the only way to get the effect which you mentioned would be to disband and conserve the manpower.

For gameplay reasons having 0 manpower at the start of the '44 scenario would be bad. Playing the scenario in HoI2 was hard enough even though you had enough manpower to replenish all your divisions and a bit extra to spare.

At the bailiffs? What did you do? Break your NDA agreement with Paradox? :D

What NDA? He is just a previewer.
The best I could up with - I haven't the foggiest what the real reason is. Just wanted to tease him into giving a hint or two. ;)

Well, the strengthbar of every unit is 100% but the org. isn't. About 25% of the divisions has a low org which is a real PITA. Next to that there are some units (5%) with a 100% strength bar but only 1/3rd of the men.

Working....making sure they do their job correctly and work hard for the money we....eh, other people,;) pay them...

Off to play a bit more ;)

Chapter five: Italy, the backwater campaign

Throughout '43 and '44 the German high command in Rastenburg had always seen the Italian front as a backwater front. Not worthy their attention. Bigger things were at stake in the East and invasion loomed in the West. But, after the Monte Casino line fell and Rome was captured this secondary theatre could play a more important role then perceived. If the Italian front would break, a flood of vengeful British, American, Polish and French troops would flow into the southern regions of the Reich.

Two strong lines of defence were prepared in the northern reaches of the Italian boot.
To the north, just south of Bolonga the “Ghengis Khan” line would be build and manned by troops which had guarded former Yugoslavia. This line didn't cross the boot completely but would enable a defence of the Garda region later on if disaster would strike.
More to the south Heeresgruppe C had ordered the construction of the strong “Gothic line” even before the front at Casino collapsed. It was now, late June, reinforcements and troops resting in Northern Italy were ordered to man the line, dig in and prepare for what might come.

Heeresgruppe C consisted of two armies, the 10th and 14th, each of which had two corps, the LXXXV korps was attached straight to the Heeresgruppe. In addition to these two dozen divisions several Italian divisions were assembled in Northern Italy. Not much could be expected of these demoralised, weak forces but at the moment every rifle counted.

From the Yugoslavia area almost a dozen divisions were marching to the Italian front to strengthen it and prevent an otherwise imminent collapse. The drawback of this move would of course be the possible loss of the Balkans to partisans. Bit, at dire moments, risks have to be taken.

Thanks for the update! First off I notice most of your divisions have no leaders, is that a normal situation or just Beta?

2nd, why pull back so far for your defence, looks like you have some divisions three hexes north, rather than four hexes north where they are moving? Just curious.

EDIT:
I don't know the quality of those SS mountain divisions in the Balkans but would nice to have as many mountain troops in those Italian mountains and hills as possible.

Wow - I just got promoted to 1st LT, most be because of 200th post. yowza

...

If a regular devision has 10.000 men and 10.000 rifles (for arguments sake) In game terms this represents 3.333 men with 10.000 rifles, right? Odd. Beta.

EDIT: As the demo will arrive tomorrow morning, i see the days of these beta-AARs come to an end. Thanks you Mosby, for allowing us to have fun with you. If you care to continue with this one, i probably will keep following it. It´s fun!

1. They are there but not all are assigned.

2. Because I need some more time.

1. Odd indeed, we will see for ourselves tomorrow.

2. Indeed, it has been a pleasure and I just know it would be silly to continue. I don't mind though as I will go on vacation 6 days from now so it is good to wrap it up. Next to that I expect the review copy tomorrow. If that's the case I will be able to write a real review as I intended before release. If I will get it on thursday or friday I won't. I not at all :( And I need to finish an article on the HOI3 writing contest as well. Ok guys, I will wrap it up tomorrow, before I leave one more update.....

BTW: I still expect 4,6 sets of steak-knives ;)
