OMG teh horror.
From the catalogue of the L. Museum
Kuipy (Normandy)
A military doctor's bag (1640s)
This large, sturdy leather bag apparently belonged to an otherwise unknown field surgeon called master René of Campeche, attached to the infamous Chevauchée Américaine, later known as the Escadron Apache [1], whose eagle insignia is branded on it. A three- to six- thousand strong unit initially comprised of irregular light cavalry, the Ecadron earned its spurs during the bloody Desert campaign, during which it harassed and ambushed Spaniards, both soldier and civilian, in the Southern Rockies, both before and even after the Treaty of Luxemburg by which the Kingdom of Granada ceded back those vast expanses to Normandy. Its loose hierarchy, reckless tactics and flamboyant style have been alternatively celebrated and reviled.
In this context the medical diploma pinned under its lid seem somewhat out of place. The worn-out document bears the ducal seal of Mexico and master Joseph Pitrel's signature. It certifies that René is a trained military surgeon, able to "ampute and cauterize" and to "prescribe and administer treatment of all kinds, as needed".
The bag's content, neatly organized in wooden interior compartment, include leather gloves, surgical instruments, two brandy bottles, and an assortment of remedies in glass bottles labelled in Hebrew, Latin, phonetic Aztec and vernacular Norman, a testimony to the mixed origins of Norman scholarship.
The drugs themselves run from the genuinely useful, such as quinine and chinaroot, to the purely folkloric such as cinnamon treacle, to the actually dangerous such as mercury-based ointment. Likewise, the surgical instruments are rudimentary even by the crude standards of 17th century field surgery. Despite the accomplishments of a few famed masters in England, Norman science of this time lagged behind that of its main rivals in Europe, and remained largely grounded
Even so, traditional Norman underhandedness must be accounted for even in the medical field ; as it turns out on closer examination, some pragmatic soul had replaced "died and ground owl legs", a very popular remedy, by black sage seeds, a much more efficient sedative and analgesic.

Kuipy (Normandy)
"They are too fast ! You cannot sail past them !" the general says.
Captain Maujois sneers.
"Don't tell me what I can do, Quesdeville."
Maujois's kin has sailed the sea for century, bringing home riches, honors and a drop of blood from seemingly every race in the Empire. Roger, the Saint-Hugues's captain, sports a Moor's nose, Aztec slanted eyes and the nutmeg brown skin of an Indian collie. But even if his barrel chest, bushy beard and derring-do had not marked him for a true Norman, to Quesdeville's knowledge no other people had ever produced sailors half as good. Attitude be damned.
To the enemy seamen the Saint-Hugues must look like a sea-bird, gliding at full speed over the foaming waters, not one inch too many of her masterwork careening under the sea. A shipbuilder from Anvers or Bordeaux might scoff at the galleon's century-old design, but all it means is that generations of crafstmen and master carpenters have elaborated each of his parts, from the grand-mât to the least dowel. Every plank, every beam has been perfected over the years to give her the one knot of speed she has over any other ship in the world, the one more minute by which she can heel over the flow. Captain Maujois knows his trade ; dusk is the time of the day when the western wind blows stronger, and the dying light will blind the Granadan seamen. If they fail to block her path, if she makes it through the strait, they will never catch her.
They do appear, though, two small fleets of ponderous galleys, deploying in all haste. Under his furrowed brow the captain's eyes go from one, to the other, to the great fortified crag of Gibraltar, to King Geoffroy's Head on the other side.
"They will catch us," the general spits. Grégoire Maujois smiles ravenously. His hands dance on the steering wheel, fast and precise like a clavier player's. And suddenly, as if frightened by his gall, the enemy wavers. Now they see.
Behind the Saint-Hugues fly a murder of Norman ships, all the Flotte Royale, seventy ships with twenty thousand men packed in their hulls. They cannot be stopped, not even slowed. A few shouts, a little cannonade, and the galleys retreat, even if it means that their king will lost of the Americas to Normandy. The Norman fleet passes, disdaining to pursue them in the shadow of Gibraltar, and sails onward, to Sicily and Malta. Normans are back in the Mediterranean.

A new nation
After decades of wars and revolts Russia has fallen, only a shadow of what it was is left. In its place several new countries have formed, all of the united by the goal of destroying their former oppressor. Now that they have got their freedom, someone must put order in the region...
![]()
-Yes yes, nice story, but we're losing valuable time, send the troops everywhere! we have to hurry up if we wanna get big and powerful.
-Yes Sir, and the Byzantine Empire has informed us they will help us in our quest.
-Perfect, now go conquer!
-Where Sir?
-Anywhere!
-Sir, we have gained land in the east but...
-yes?
-There are many revolts at home, we need our armies here
-Nonsense!, ask the Byzantines to send some calvary, we must focus on expansion. Now go invade Russia, they still have land and I want it.
![]()
-The Russians were easy to take, in fact so easy that the Byzantine Empire conquered half of their country...
-What?, well, they're reasonable people and our friends, I'm sure we can figure out something about those Russian provinces they have now. Now go east, we need to go east!

Why the hell haven't you guys taken down France yet?
"We give the facts. You can't say that we have a slant because of it. I hear that the jury's in on evolution."
"When you divide a country into two sides, one of which cheers the idea of murder and hate, you don't have much choice in which side you're on."

How can you possibly expect us to do that? I just recovered from 9 WE towards the end of the session, Tver is full of rebels, the Timmies can't reach him, Malacca is getting help from France in China, the Netherlands is lacking in tech, and Normandy doesn't have the ships or the troops.
Besides, I like having a big blue protector.![]()

Timurid Empire AAR
The war against China
The first action the new advisor to the throne Zalder took was to end the war with China. It looked like this could be a disaster for the Timurid Empire because of the huge manpower of the Ming and the size of the country to conquer. Allah seemed to have blessed the Timurid Empire because a war between Japan and Ming broke out soon after the beginning of the conquest. This caused many Ming armies to retreat and defend the East, which allowed the Timurids to go deep in their territory and get about 10 provinces at the peace. If there hadn't been any rebels, the Ming Empire could have been simply destroyed.
The revolts (part I)
The revolts were already a problem during the war, but after peace was made, the country exploded in revolts. This would be a problem for the next thirty years and the Timurid Empire would lose small chunks of territory to neighboring states. After many years and the help of the Netherlands, the revolts were finally put down. It is estimated than more than 300,000 men lost their lives in this conflict.
The Kazakh-Timurid war
A few years after the revolts, the Khagan decided it was time for new conquests. War was declared on the Ottoman Empire, a state that derived from the ancient Osman empire. It was now reduced to two provinces that were claimed by the Timurid empire for years. It was time to annex them. The Ottoman Empire was easily beaten, but the length of the war against Kazakh soon allowed rebels to attack undefended provinces. A peace was quickly brokered and the revolts were again put down.
The revolts (part II) and the second war against China
The rebels had taken whole areas of the country and it was impossible for the army to fight efficiently the rebels, that even outnumbered them at some times. The provinces taken from China in the previous war were the biggest problem : they were hard to reach and the there was many revolts. After some time, the Ming decided to claim the provinces as their own and the rebels sided with them. Immediately, the Khagan declared war on China. Although the war was a lot more difficult to win than the first, the Timurid armies soon reached the core of the Empire. As the resistance began to grow, the Khagan decided it was time for peace. The areas claimed by China before the war were returned to the Timurids and many other provinces, which effectively cut the Ming Empire in two.
The Tver-Timurid rivalry and the wars to the south
After the war with China, the Khagan decided it was time for the small states that were enclosed in the Timurid Empire to be annexed. War was declared on Baluchistan and Rajputana, and soon the first was reduced to one province and the Rajputana was vassalised.
During this time, Tver was conquering everything in its sight. Its size had been multiplied by 5 in less than 20 years and now it was aiming to conquer areas that were known to be in Timurid Empire's sphere of influence. The province of Ust Yurt, a long known Timurid claim, was annexed by them, along with the Kazakh and the Oirat horde. This angered the Khagan deeply, as a few years ago, he had sold a province to them for a ridiculous price. He knew that war was not an option with all the problems the Timurids experienced, though, so he tried to negotiate with Tver. After many offers from both sides, no agreement was reached. It was decided that the negotations would be continued at a further time.

Henri IV
(1667 – 1698)
The reign of Henri IV saw France attempt to increase goodwill among its neighbours. His first act was the removal of the Duke of Lorraine as a vassal. For years the Dutch Duke had refused the King’s insistence that Lorraine be fortified and have a standing army to help in its own defence. Despite a massive treasury though the Duke refused to spend it on fortifications and would only raise one infantry regiment from his own populace. Tired of the stupidity Henri IV removed France’s protection of Lorraine and encouraged the King of the Netherlands to annex the land for itself.
After years of encouraging Granada to solidify its hold on the Iberian Peninsula Henri finally decided to force the issue. Without Granada’s knowledge a deal was made with the Byzantium Empire that would allow for the future annexation of Granada’s lands in Northern Africa for their assistance in the war. Byzantium would be in charge of dealing with Morocco, Castille’s ally, while France and Granada would deal with Iberia. With the deal signed France declared war on Castille and predictably its armies were swept aside. All of Castille’s land in Iberia was transferred to Granada and a large portion of Morocco was annexed by Byzantium.
Shortly after the war emissaries from Malacca approached the governor of Jaffna with an urgent plea for assistance against Ming. The India Garrison of ten thousand French soldiers was quickly dispatched to the jungles of Malacca to drive the Chinese invaders out of the country. For almost a year they held against numerous Chinese assaults, at times being outnumbered eight to one. The horrific casualties caused on the Chinese quickly forced the population of Ming to grow weary of the war and Malacca was able to sign a peace that would return the two nations to their borders before the war. Of the ten thousand soldiers sent to the area just over five hundred remained to sail back to India at the conclusion of the conflict.
Next Henri IV decided it was time to reintegrate Sicily into France and war was declared on the small Mediterranean kingdom. Twenty thousand French soldiers put the island under siege for a several months and the King of Sicily was forced to cede the province of Messina to France. Before he could finish the conquest and take Sicily’s last province of Palermo Henri IV would pass away leaving his son Louis XII to finish what he had started.
Louis XII
(1699 – 1719)
Louis XII reign was a quiet one. He would conquer Sicily shortly after his father’s death in 1698 and for the remainder of his twenty years in power France would not enter another conflict. Louis XII would focus on the completion of colonization of South America and expansion of France’s colonies in Asia. As well Louis would restructure the French army and ordered the refurbishing of the navy. During his reign the massive Threedecker would become the main ship of the line for France and most of the obsolete ships would be scrapped. By the time of his death over one hundred and thirty Threedeckers were constructed and only thirty-seven obsolete vessels remained a part of the French navy.
Besides his military reforms Louis XII ordered a census of the nation of France to determine the best course of action for domestic policies.
The urban population of France was determined to be about 18 million people, of which 13.6 million were of Occitan culture. The remaining French subcultures in France numbered around 750 thousand people split equally between Norman, Wallonian and Cosmopolitan. The largest minority group in the nation was the Flemish in the former duchy of Flanders with a population of 2 million people.
Norman = red dots
Wallonian = green dot
Cosmopolitan = blue dots
The Lombard culture on the Italian peninsula continued its decline with under 500 thousand remaining.
Lombard = green provinces
The Iberian Peninsula is a smattering of minor cultures. It contains Castilian (25,000 in Burgos), Catalan (223,000 in Barcelona), Berber (300,000 in Alicante and Valencia) and even Greek majority provinces (50,000 in Madrid and Castilla La Vieja) and hasn’t seen much change in two centuries. The Greek provinces were a product of the Duke of Toledo offering sanctuary to catholic Greeks wishing to leave the Orthodox dominated Byzantium Empire in the 15th century.
Outside of Europe France have Arabic peoples in Jerusalem (240,000 in three provinces) as well as Tamil (190,000 in two provinces) and Sinhala (90,000 in two provinces) in India.
