I agree. Best sentence.

"After the Japanese heard the info that this was a Totally Random Productions AAR, they realised they were fucked anyway and surrendered, after which the country nuked itself." The end ;)

Update coming this evening

Here we go. Sorry for the lateness of the update, I was busy reading some Allen Ginsberg poems. Amazing author btw, be sure to read him if you find some of his work :).

Van Geyte’s Task Force Phoenix crossing the Channel

On February 8th, Task Force Phoenix reached Portsmouth and commenced and amphibious invasion. The Lancastrian defenders attempted to sink the incoming transports by mounting heavy cannons near the port, but their artillery was quickly destroyed by shore bombardment and air raids from the 3rd Fleet supporting the attack just off the coast of Portsmouth.

Wehrmacht soldiers rapidly managed to gain a foothold on the port, and soon the Lancastrian armies had no choice but to retreat: The Wehrmacht numbers in Portsmouth had already grown to over 40.000 in one day, and 40.000 more were waiting to set foot on England. Followed by heavy German artillery, the defeated 7th and 9th Royal Divisions routed from Portsmouth and moved to London.

The German task Force in Paris wore only Pact emblems and Pact flags, to distinguish themselves from the Lancastrian attackers. Task Force Phoenix spread over South-England quickly, being cheered to in every city they freed from Lancastrian control. In the North, the arrival of the German Task Force had bolstered the courage of the rebels, who immediately began a massive offensive South. The Lancastrians armies in Birmingham managed to hold the front for 4 days, after which their defence crumbled due to a lack of supplies. On the 12th of February 1943, the city of Birmingham was taken by the Loyalist rebels, forcing over 45.000 Lancastrian soldiers to flee South. Their routing and the fall of Birmingham caused massive panic among the remaining Lancastrian armies North of London.

Two days after the occupation of Birmingham, the Wehrmacht under command of Field marshall Van Geyte had managed to conquer Gillingham, Reading and Basildon, practically breaking all remaining Lancastrian strongpoints south of London. The German Wehrmacht was now within cannon range of London, and immediately began setting up massive artillery batteries to pound the city with. One day later, on the 15th of February 1943, both Northampton and Peterborough, two Lancastrian headquarters North of London, fell to the Loyalist offensive. Facing the danger of having their front completely annihilated, the Lancastrian government had now been driven in a corner and was left no choice but to order all remaining soldiers to retreat to London and hold the capitol.

In the South, Task Force Phoenix immediately began an intensive bombardment campaign against the capitol of the British Empire, while in the North the Loyalist rebels formed a front with the Wehrmacht to put an end to the encircled Lancastrians for once and for all. The Siege of London had begun.

PS: We might post another blooper in the Reader's Group this week, and I've just finished writing some more 'alternative scenes' for certain events in the storyline. Due to the great reception of the Hitler knife fight scene, we now cooked up a bunch of other, totally exagerated, cliche-ridden and generally bad-ass scenes ;).

Would you guys like a making-of this week? We could give some insight into the early production process of the Channel Pact, failed ideas, the formation of Totally Random Productions and our previous un-AAR'd coop game (Think USSR and Japan. Think world conquest.) that led us to creating the Channel Pact. And if you want info about Laurence's AAR, I suggest you keep nagging untill he tells ;)

Siege of London = yes
Another blooper = yes
Making of = double yes

Bring it on!

Great then. We'll shed some light on the personas Laurence and Vincent, and how our mysterious Totally Random Productions studio came to be ;). I'll gather some pictures of some of our older work and write the story down tomorrow, expect the post around thursday/friday.

And no, we are not nuking my capitol. There will be no discussion on nuking London. Just... no.

-Vincent

Just a bit of nuking. It would be funny... :D

I'm thinking Stalingrad-like battle for London but without the Rose guys winning. We haven't had a real Stalingrad-like siege I think.

There will be an epic battle scene in Tokyo and Vladivostok, I'll probably write some up for American cities aswell (And yes, American imperialist pigs, We are coming for you :D ). I'll just see what happens (but as US division count is now about 6 times what Japan had at it's peak, which hasn't even arrived yet in the story), I think we'll be seeing some really awesome battle scenes ;)

The following events took place February 17th, 1943, Portsmouth, England (under control by pact Loyalists)

A massive celebration had broken loose in Portsmouth. Everywhere in the city people were singing, dancing and cheering. Channel pact banners adorned every official building, and many took to the streets to burn the Lancastrian flags that had been left behind by the retreating revolutionaries. Yesterday the word had reached Portsmouth that the Lancastrians had retreated to London and were now under heavy siege from all sides. The Free Fleets had returned to the now left-behind ports and formed a provisionary government to control the Loyalist army. This new body had been dubbed the Council of the Admiralty and was under direct supervision of the Free Fleet admirals: Down, Sommervile, Coyle and McLeon had set up a headquarters in Portsmouth and vowed to restore Pact Surpremacy over England and continue the war, in honor of Grand Admiral De Nil.

But there was another mayor reason to celebrate. A new ship had docked into Portsmouth yesterday. The HMS Illustrious had arrived, along with the rest of the Pacific Command. De Nil had returned. The news reached London quickly that both De Nil and Van Geyte had survived their assassination, and the Lancastrians became increasingly desparate. The Grand Admiral himself, however, had other things on his mind

“You have done your country a great service, Admiral Sommerville. Thank you.”
“It was my pleasure sir.”
Vincent looked at the remnants of Portsmouth: The city had been heavily damaged in the fighting. Many of the drydocks had been destroyed, and smoke plumes in the distance indicated that the industrial parts of the city had also been hit. He clenched his fists together. Those traitorous Lancastrians. Look at what their pathetic revolution had done to England. Many large cities were severely damaged in the fighting, and London was under siege as they spoke. Vincent had also not yet heard any news of Mosley.

“After this is over... you will all be promoted to the rank of Grand Admiral of the Royal Navy. You have shown great courage and dedication in times of chaos and anarchy. You will enter history as a hero.”
“Yes sir”

Four heavily armed commando’s approached De Nil.
“Sir, your transportation is ready”
Vincent shook hands with Sommerville and turned around
“Sommerville, I am putting you in control of the Loyalists for the time being. I hereby appoint you to Lord of the Admiralty, and place you in command of all army elements still under our control.”
“I am... honoured sir”
“I have to get to the front. Goodbye”

De Nil walked away, escorted by the four commando’s
“What is the news from the capitol?”
One of the Ironsides responded “Sir, Van Geyte has begun the bombardment of London. Spies in the city have reported massive damage to the city infrastructure, but the Lancastrian armies have dug themselves in.”
“Bastards. Contact all air elements on the Free Fleets and order them to find an airport near London. They will support Van Geyte’s offensive.”
“Yes sir”
“And my family?”
“They have been brought to a safe location sir. As expected, your house was destroyed in a bombing attack shortly after the revolution.”
De Nil sighed. “Thank god. Those traitors. I built that house myself”
The Ironside responded “Such is war sir.”

The men had reached a convoy of APC’s, surrounded by Ironside guards. De Nil boarded one of the vehicles
“Where to sir?”
“Get me to Task Force Phoenix HQ. I need to talk to Van Geyte”
“Yes sir.”
The Ironsides boarded the APC’s, and the convoy left for London.

Sorry for the later and smaller updates. Me and Laurence have entered finals season, as such, our AAR-time is rather limited ;). Luckily, our buffer will sustain us through these harsh times. We will also be making two announcements tonight, as we came up with some ideas that we think might be fun, and increase the bond between the AAR and the community ;)

What happened in the other areas of the Empire during the revolution?

What happened in the other areas of the Empire during the revolution?

Good question, and I just realised I paid absolutely no attention to it in The War of the Roses :eek:o. Well, as was explained earlier, most of the Empire's important strategic locations (British Raj, Singapore) are located on the Eastern Front, from where they are under jurisdiction of Wehrmacht and Royal Army/Navy commanders, who never recognised the new, peace-wanting governments of England and Germany, and simply decided to continue the war there (Japan is, however, mounting more and more troops in China at this point). The only 'unguarded' territories would be the African colonies, which are under joint administration of Pact officials. The new governments' influence never managed to spread very far, as they were immediately faced with enormous distrust in the homelands. Think of the Pact front commanders as the zealous Japanese generals that continued World War 2 even after the capitulation ;)

-Vincent

Continue that discussion on the Reader's group ;). For now, We have some announcements to make.

EVENTS Q&A
------------

-What are Totally Random Production Events?
TRP Events generally indicates a broad array of ideas and tryouts we will be holding to stimulate community involvement in the story. As we have already found out with the knife fight on top of the Reichstag, your direct contact with your reader's and their influx of ideas can make for a much more interesting AAR. After all, if you want something that is solid, go buy a book. Here at TRP, we just want to entertain you, so The Channel Pact will be our platform on which to test several ways to involve the community in our most humble undertaking ;). The Reader's Group, bloopers and Scene On Demand would be the first of our ideas with which we hope to inspire other AAR authors and push the concept of an AAR to even highers standards. Affectionatively, we have come to call this the TRP-Doctrine :).

-What genres of Events will there be?
You have already witnessed our Reader's Group and scene-on-demand intiatives, along with Channel Pact Week and other update spree mayhems. Now we hope to expand that to involve the community directly into the story: Prize questions, contributors (More on that below), and of course listening to the ideas the community brings in.

-Ooh, prizes! What can we win?
Obviously, nothing of actual value :D. We are unfortunately very poor men. Prizes will depend on what we come up with, and will mostly involve special mentions in the story, maybe even a cameo or two like we're planning now. We'll try it out, and see what happens.

Anyhow, on to our first event

Totally Random Productions Event 1

The Setting Sun
Guess the date in which the Japanese Empire is defeated by the forces of the Channel Pact

The three closest guesses will be contacted and featured in the story as characters. Which characters and where in the story is to be decided by us :)

Just reply your answers, and we will write them down. The winners will be unveiled when Japan is defeated in the story. Good luck to all!

A submission to the prize question would be something like this:
I predict Japan to fall September 4,1941
Name: De Nil Vincent
Nationality: Belgian

(If you like privacy, you can PM your answers.)

Some helpfull hints that might point you to the correct answer. At this point in the game (Spring '43), the Eastern front looks something like this

-German forces have taken control of Xibei Siang Ma and Sinkiang, but are currently halted the in mountainous provinces in Southwest-China
-Japan has 320 active divisions, 250 of which are stationed in China. this includes 30 armour divisions and 15 motorized
-Japan has 650 available IC
-Japan has 6 IV carriers and 6 V, while the RN sails with 2IV and 7V Carriers
-Japan has naval superiority in everything north of Singapore
-Singapore is under siege, but holding due to the river and fortifications bonus.
-Both Pact players are operating under a dissent hit (to simulate the unstability after the revolution), decreasing their military effectiveness.

We will stop accepting answers on the 15th of June. Good luck everyone, and have fun!

----------------------

Now, the next idea me and Laurence have been talking about we came up with after we noticed that a lot of our readers are great AAR Writers themselves.

As you already know, The Channel Pact is a gameplay narrative/Story hybrid AAR, and for the story part I have chosen to use a "The following events took place..." system, giving me enormous artistic freedom to write about which characters I want, when and where I want. Later on in the AAR, big battles are illustrated by small fragments of story having commanders, soldiers, etc as main characters. One of our ideas would be to ask the community to see if anyone would feel up to becoming a contributor to the AAR.

This project basically comes down to that we will send you a screenshot of a pivotal event in-game, and for the rest we will let you write the scene as you envisioned it. For the scene, you are free to drag in your own made-up characters and cameos, as long as everything makes at least a bit sence ;). Aside from having to stick to the event in the screenshot, we will leave you completely free for your contribution.

While it is far from our intention to point people out, we are indeed glancing at our linguistic peer CaptRobeau and his knack for writing battlescenarios ;). Let us know what you guys think.

Cheers,

-Vincent and Laurence, Totally Random Productions

My guess for Japan would be: October 29th 1945

The fan additions to your AAR sounds pretty interesting. Would updates have to be in this sort of narrative style or could they be more focused on individual battles and stuff like that?

It is noted ;). About the style of the contributions, I think we're going to let the authors themselves decide about that, but I'll talk to Laurence and see what he thinks.

-Vincent

Never, because Remble is secretly controlling Japan. :D

My guess for the fall of Japan would be December 3rd, 1946 at 14:00 hours (can't be precise enough :D).

I assume the name, etc. is for the character. In that case:

Name: Stefan Eijkman
Nationality: Dutch (in the Wehrmacht)

Regarding the contribution, it'd be an honor to write something for The Channel Pact. I guess I'll hear from you guys somtimes ;).
