Laurence and Vincent said:
To all new readers: Welcome to the Channel Pact. We are currently in the process of revamping our front page to make it a bit more informative for newcomers.

What is the Channel Pact?
The Channel Pact is a co-op narrative/gameplay hybrid AAR set in an alternative timeline where the German Empire and the British Empire attempt to establish a new world order. The AAR is based on several important principles, namely:

World War II... only better
Artificially beefed enemies, fronts spanning over 10.000 miles, armies counting wel into a thousand divisions, massive fleet and land warfare: Everything is possible in the Channel Pact. We do not care about 'historical realism' or 'gamey', we just want to deliver you a spectacular AAR filled to the brim with countless intrigues, epic battles and over-the-top offensives

Unlimited nuclear warfare
All sides will actively research, and use, full-scale nuclear warfare. Care for a game of chess?

Know what's going on
With strong graphical support, we attempt to give you a complete and very accurate insight into our World War II, without letting story elements sever the tie between the Action and the After Action Report

Two is better than one
The Channel Pact is played with two and written with two. Not one, but two humans will decide the outcome of the Second World War, and take on the ungodly AI hordes with all their fiendish cunning

Be part of the Channel Pact
Through our Reader's Group and Collaborate! projects, we attempt to draw the community into the AAR You don't just read The Channel Pact. You are a part of The Channel Pact

Update hard, update often
The Channel Pact is one of the fastest updating AARs in AARland. This is because we work with a large buffer to post from, making sure we never have to push ourselves to deliver our readers their daily dose, and that we can update with regular intervals. Combined with extras like requested alternative scenes and Channel Pact Weeks, our readers allways have something to do.

Interested? Then start with the index below, and enjoy your read!

If you want to skip straight to the war, begin with chapter "The Beginning of War". You will miss out on some crucial events though, like the Valetta Summit, which are vital to the later story.

I saw your trailer and I'm now eagerly awaiting the first update

Okay, let's do this ;). Remember we're in for the long run guys; this AAR is already 150+ pages in Word and atm we haven't reached '44 yet with the gameplay. We're still experimenting with trying to get a decent layout for this thing, so if anyone is bothered by the small font size just nod us and we'll go back to standard.

Prologue

The following events took place March 12th, 1936, Berlin, Germany

naamloos1bxz.jpg
Lord Halifax stared blankly at the papers lying in front of him. Was this a joke? Some Jerry trick? He read and reread the headline over and over, to let it sink in. “Channel Pact for Harmonious Expanse of Nations”. Despite many terms in the office of Foreign Affairs of the British Empire, he had never quite seen something like this. A pact. The Channel Pact. With the Germans. Nevermind. He had already made up his mind.
“Herr Constantin, with all due respect, these documents… are sheer madness! I refuse to sign such a demonous treaty!”
The German foreign minister rocked back and forth in his luxurious leather chair, grinning slightly as he lit a cigar.
“It is for the best interests of the nations we serve”
“My government will never comply with such ideas!”
Constantin leaned back and grabbed a pen and paper to write something down. It was obvious that he became unnerved by the stubborn position of this British diplomat.

“Very well then. If that is how you feel, our affairs are done here. A plane will be waiting at Tempelhof to escort you back to London. Have a pleasant flight.”
Lord Halifax stood up and was about to leave the room when Constantin handed him a sealed letter. The brown envelope was imprinted with a Reichsadler. The writing said “To V. De Nil, Grand Admiral of the British Navy- CONFIDENTIAL”
“I do hope Lord, that when you arrive in the Houses of Parliament, you will have a sufficient explanation for your decision here.”
“Whatever. Have a nice day.”

The following events took place 15th March, 1936, London, United Kingdom

naamloos2ejm.jpg

Mosley sighed tiredly, and stared at the documents and the letter on the desk in front of him. Lord Halifax looked at him from across the table.
“Sir; why would the Germans send a confidential letter to one of our Grand Admirals?”
“This is none of your affairs lord.”
Mosley took up the pile of documents and stared at the headline. The Channel Pact…
“What is your affairs though, is why I am looking at an unsigned pile of documents”
“But, sir… do you want me to sign those? They’re pure madness! Have you even read the…”
“I am fully aware of the contents, Halifax.”
“Sorry sir, I overreacted.”
Mosley leaned over the table in his typical threatening fashion
“Let me put it this way Halifax. In the name of the Order of the British Empire, the Crown Dependencies and the Commonwealth of the Federation, I demand that you sign these papers this instant”
“Why would you want to cooperate with the jerries sir? They’re loonies! Out of this world! Complely wa…”
“ENOUGH! It is in the best interest of both our nations. You will sign them or I’ll have you on jungle guard duty in Burma before the week ends. Which do you prefer?”
Lord Halifax took a pen and signed the documents.
“There. I hope you know what you are doing. I feel I have just signed the treaty to be the end of the United Kingdom”
“As I said; it is none of your affairs. Mary!”
Mosley’s secretary strode into the room
“Yes sir?”
Mosley handed her the documents
“Send two copies of these to Berlin. One to Reichsfuhrer Adolf Hitler. And the other one…”
Mosley whispered something into her ear
“I see sir. I’ll have these on their way as soon as possible”
As Mary walked out the room, Halifax chuckled
“Quite some secrecy in the Parliament nowadays, wouldn’t you agree?”
Mosley did not answer but instead gave Halifax a dark stare
“Your job is done here. There is an Anglo-Russian economical exchange summit in Leningrad next week. We’re sending you along with Spencer to lead the negotiations there”
“Leningrad? Ah man. Last time I was there the Russians tried to sell us brandfree meat products. The boys from Health researched it. Turns out they had prepared tons upon tons of rat meat. If I recall correctly, the Poles bought it all. Poor sods”
“Enjoy yourselves anyway. I hear Leningrad is nice in spring”
Lord Halifax left the room mumbling. Mosley could faintly hear “So is Siberia” under al the mutter. He sighed, picked up the letter and entered the room next door

This side office was smaller as the Prime Minister’s office. Light faintly seeped in from the closed window blinds. The room was mostly undecorated, save for a large Union Jack over the fireplace and old yellowy pictures of the HMS Dreadnought. Sitting at a small desk in the corner, a large and impressive figure was writing a report. The enormous array of medals and ribbons hanging from his clean olive suit reflected the faint light. “Good morning, Oswald Mosley, Prime Minister of the British Empire”. The figure chuckled
“Save it. Jerry sends mail” Mosley threw the letter on the figure’s desk.
“I suppose it’s from our German friend?”
“Undoubtedly” the figure broke the seal and started reading the letter. He grinned.
“What?”
“Nothing. Everything is according to plan”
Mosley shrugged “I guess that’s a good thing.”
“It appears I am no longer needed here at the moment. Would you have need of me, I’ll be in Birmingham for the remainder of the month.”
“Birmingham? For some more of your obscure ‘business’ I suppose?”
“Actually no. I heard this great new Chinese restaurant opened on Buckingham Street last week, and I want to check it out.”
Mosley stared blankly at the figure
“I have to admit, you are one of a kind”
The figure summoned a stylish black hat and put it on
“I’ll be gone then. Have a nice time ruling the country, Prime Minister”
“Oh jolly. You have no idea. I’ve got farmers rebelling in Northern Ireland for more autonomy or whatnot. I suspect the Irish of feeding their separatism.”
“Don’t worry. Ireland will be dealt with, in due time. Farewell.”
“If you will, bring back some Peking duck for the guys at Internal Affairs when you get back. They’ve been working for thirty-six hours non-stop without food or water”
“You aren’t paying them are you?”
“Of course not!”
“Thank god. Damn liberals”
“Amen, brother. Farewell”

Chapter I: State of Affairs

Act One of the Channel Pact

The nations participating in the Channel Pact agree on open relations, and a cultural and economical exchange of raw materials and military equipment, regardless of the diplomatic state of these nations.

Present day

These are bright times for the British Empire. The Empire Expanse plan has doubled the industrial capacity of the Empire since 1936, and mayor infrastructure works have turned the African and Indian colonies in shining trade ports. The Anglo-Dutch colonial war of ’37 saw the creation of an Indonesian Crown Dependency, supplying Britain with an almost infinite amount of resources. Following the ’38 Saudi coup the British Colonial Forces were forced to invade to pacify the nation… and it’s rich oil reserves. After the German Anschluss of Austria, the UK proposed to reunite with the Irish Secessionists. After a rude rejection by the Irish, Operation Leinster made short work of their nationalism. Ireland was annexed on the 12th September 1938. Though around the Empire, an increasing amount of hostility is growing. It has been criticized for it’s colonial expansion, militarism and the pointless invasion of Persia, the reason for which the Cabinet refuses to make public. With relations between the fascist states of the United Kingdom and Germany at an unknown high, many speculate on what they have planned for the world. The Cabinet does this off as “socializing with our friendly neighbours”. There have been rumours of an enormous trade activity between these two countries, the British raw materials fueling the German war effort in exchange for top-grade military equipment, and even joint armaments projects between the two nations.

Fueled by mad expansion, Germany itself quickly conquered half Europe, rolling over minor nations with it’s undefeatable war machine. On November 27th 1940, the Allies posed an ultimatum to the German government to stop it’s territorial expanse at the cost of other nations. The full formal reply of Germany was never released publicly, but it started with “lickt mein…”. Two days later, France, NZ, Australia, South-Africa and Canada declared war upon Germany. The Auguste invasion plan called for a quick invasion and occupation of the industrious Rhine. The war did not go well.

After the initial invasion was brutally stopped at the Siegfried Line, the Waffen-SS unleashed a devastating counter-offensive known as “Fall Blau” (Case blue). A massive kinetic war or, as it would later be known, “Blitzkrieg” occurred as spearheads of Panzerdivisions, with superior training and supply, pierced through the Low Countries (which capitulated shortly thereafter) into North-France. Over 20,000 French soldiers were captured or destroyed in this initial offensive. Now, the completely disorganised French Army has to attempt to regain control of the war pace, with Germany already poised to take Paris by the end of this week. All analysts predict a crushing defeat for France, as the trap closes on Mulhouse, over 80% of the French army will be out of supply, with the government becoming increasingly more instable. If France falls, Germany will be completely unopposed in Western Europe. A cry for help to the UK has been to no avail, as they refuse to intervene into what they call “France getting what it had coming.” They also stated “Enjoy being occupied, you pricks.”

Nice. Always good to see an expansionist British Empre with a healthy amount of dislike for France

Would I be right in assuming that you'll be giving us flashbacks to show how the world came to this?

Yes you would, there will be several flashbacks spread across the story, and everything will be explained, in due time ;)

Congratulations on getting this going. The regular size font looks better, especially for people like me with bad eyes. :)

Wow, so the hype has finally formed into an AAR.

But honestly, the hype hasn't really lined up with the writing yet. Maybe you should consider making the writing a bit more professional.

"Enjoy being occupied, you pricks" is a funny line, but its out of place in an AAR that is being advertised as a serious and massive narrative/history-book AAR. Also, I don't think Halifax would say things like "whatever" and "aw man."

Maybe its not my place to talk as my AAR-writing isn't all that great.

In any case, its a good start!

Bearing in mind that Halifax is in charge of the Foreign Office, the message send to France would read:

"Dear Fwiends

At the pwesent ciwrcunstances we are unable to send any available twoop as we awe to busy decided what to do next. In my point of view, sending twoops to a war would be taken as a quite bellicous action, so we might think it twice".

However, I have no idea of what Mosley would think about it. Perhaps he's happy with this Austrian Pal...
