USSR

Hello and welcome to my first AAR. I almost always play Nazi Germany but decided to play as the USSR. This is how the scenario was created. I started as Nazi Germany in 1936 played historical till the fall of Poland.

Hearts of Iron: DD 1.3a
Normal/Normal
Modifications: DAIM
No reloads or gamey tactics

Played as Germany till November 24, 1940-

September 1939 Conquered Poland in 20 days
November 1939 Conquered Yugoslavia in about 25 days
December 1939 Conquered Greece in about 10 days
April 1940 Conquered; Demark, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg, and France in about 45 days

After conquering these nations I built 60 Submarine type 4’s and started to convoy raid sinking hundreds of convoys. Built up the Luftwaffe and started to build up a large motorized and armored army for the invasion of USSR. Which brings me to my next point…defend the motherland at all cost!

I played as follows:

Nazi Germany 1936 to November 24, 1940
USSR from Nov 24th 1940 till fall of Moscow or Berlin

The situation in Europe is deteriorating as nation after nation falls under rule of Nazi Germany. The Kriegsmarine continues to convoy raid possibly bringing the United Kingdom to its knees, the Luftwaffe battles the RAF and shoots downs hundreds of planes, and the OKW high command placed orders for hundreds of motorized and panzer forces for some sort of large land based action. The world is holding its breath to see what the engaged tyrant Adolf Hitler will do next? All we know is that Mother Russia is building up units at a neck breaking alarm in anticipation of defending its self from a unknown threat. Stalin has however repeatedly reassured us comrades that there is no immediate threat from Nazi Germany.

USSR High Command to all units in order of Priority:
1.Relocate to defensive positions
2.Create brigades for infantry units
3.Upgrade units as fast as possible

USSR Diplomacy:
1.Create sustainable trade agreements
2.Build stock piles of supplies

USSR Intelligence:
1.Send spies to infiltrate the Third Reich
2.Seek out and destroy traitors and foreign spies within the country

USSR Production:
1.Continue what the computer has purchased for orders then upgrade units

USSR High Command Report:
Moscow
November 24, 1940

(First meeting of USSR High Command Along with respective Departments and Individuals)

Here is the current political situation. The Axis, which include Germany, Italy, Romanian, Hungary, Bulgaria, Finland, and Vichy France dominate the European continuant and most of the North Africa territories. Germany continues to fight Great Britain for control of the Atlantic and Italy fights for control of the Mediterranean Sea. There has been no Germany activity on land; however they are very busy in the sky. They continue to engage the RAF over France, while Italy pushes its gains towards the Middle East. High Command has seen fight that the USSR continue its course of not interfering with the current European situation. We already attempted to subdue Finland, but failed to achieve any victory. We have gained land in the Baltic States along with our half of Poland. We will continue to seek peace with our good friends ...the Axis.

USSR Technology and Research Report:

These are our current research and technology projects. Since the USSR is not likely to see any action in this conflict we’ve decided to research defense doctrines.

USSR Production Report:

We have not altered anything since the priovous orders (I am going to finish out what the computer started).
production1.jpg

USSR ARMY COMMAND

Let’s get our forces to a more defensive position. We do not want to "strike fear" into the Germans by being to close to the line. Let’s spread out our forces a bit.

roc1.jpg

USSR High command:

We feel that our man power growth is sufficient at the time our Chief of staff Comrade Shaposhnkov has done an excellent job however Comrade Stalin feels Unit organization should take priority at this time. Therefore we will be replace Shaposhnkov with Comrade Meretskov. Thank you to all the respective departments and individuals for the update. We will not have another meeting till High Command sees fit. This was a general meeting and the format of the meetings may change over time. ( I may try to improve the format of meetins and screen shots over time. I'll try to update my progress tonight. I hope I do alright.)

USSR High Command Report:

We have been upgrading several units…to many to name…since the fortnight of our last meeting comrades. We have also deployed 1 armored division along with several infantry divisions. See report below.

At the current moment I see no need for further meetings till our next scheduled meeting about 2 months or less from now. This is no need to worry about the situation in Europe Nazi Germany would never turn on the motherland ….Hitler gave me his word.

USSR High Command Report:

Hello comrades. I know we planed to not have another meeting till February, but we wanted to update a few of you on the progress of the USSR. We have continued to upgrade our out dated equipment and sent our military’s best to research a new concept called “Defense in Depth.” Stalin said there was no use for it; however a few staff members said it could be worth our time. This new type of warfare would increase our land unit’s organization along with a few other tactics.

defenseindepth.jpg

USSR Intelligence:
We have attempted, but failed to see what the Germans are up too. They prove to be a difficult regime to penetrate when it comes to sending spies in to their new conquered territories. We dare not try and send into the heart of the loins den…..Berlin. Until our next meeting comrades.

We called a meeting to inform everyone that we have started research on a new tank called the T34-41 mod. I am sure this will not be necessary; however we are hoping that it will not be a waste of resources.

USSR Production Report:

We continue to upgrade outdated equipment and currently have about 143 obsolete divisions and 5 bridges by today’s standards.

USSR General News Report:

Nothing has really happened to our nation, but we continue to monitor the Axis. Italy continues to push her gains in North Africa. Italy from what we gather has attempted to challenge the United Kingdome for control of the Mediterranean Sea.

Imperial Japan also continues to gain land for the Emperor. Looks as though a new order in the world is forming in Asia. The USSR people’s news will continue to monitor situations in the world. Until our next meeting comrades.

USSR Technology Report:

We have started research a new weapon that is called a “Tank Destroyer.” Supposedly this will give up mobility on the battlefield, but as we all know the battlefield is a slow moving line. We are making progress in other fields such as medium tanks and assembly lines. We will continue to update the USSR High command on our progress.

tech2.jpg

USSR Intelligence Report:

We have still failed to penetrate Nazi Germany. I am not sure how the run business behind the lines, but they are effective at keeping out spies! Once we are able to infiltrate the enemy we will update High Command.

USSR High Command:

Since summer is approaching I am sure all of us could use some much needed vacation. Stalin has agreed to allow for 1 months vacation for all departments and individuals. We will not hold a meeting until June. Until then comrades…

Chapter 2: Relaxation in Spring

USSR High Command Report:
Moscow
May 2, 1941
1200

USSR High Command:

Things had been pretty claim around high command on the spring afternoon of May. Stalin had been in high sprits forging new trade deals with Germany. He was glad the Western powers had been pushed out of Europe. Now all he had to do was deal with one man when it came to negations. He never understood how France and the other countries could ever get anything done when it came to making decisions. He always thought he was doing a great job with his own country (even though their were high chances of revolt and dissidents). He was a man of iron will. He would stay like that until the end.

The Germans on the other hand were practically running around with their heads cut off. Leave it to the Germans to always want to be efficient and hard working on this wonderful spring day. Something was in the air maybe the Axis had finally pushed the British out of Africa or forged a new alliance with Japan. One could never tell what those crafty Germans were up to at the moment. I guess Stalin would have to check the news to find out what had happened. But he would get around to it after lunch and a nap.

USSR Intelligence Report:

Today we have seen a substantial decrease in German radio activity. I wonder too if the Germans had finally sat down, taken a breath and relaxed. The last couple of years have seemed like the Germans were running around in some lighting campaign. They did use the term blitzkrieg a lot but, that’s something the Soviets never understood.

USSR ARMY COMMAND

There are current standing orders direct from High Command to be in a state of rest and relaxation. The Germans weren’t the only one’s campaigning these last couple of years. The Soviets too had attempted to bring down the nation of Finland, however that was a very slow and bitter campaign; nothing like the Germans. They did however get the Baltic’s States and a large size of Poland. This called for some relaxation on the Soviet side. Continue orders Comrades for a bit of R and R until our next meeting.

USSR High Command Report:

USSR High Command Report:

WAR! On May 4, 1941 at 1600 hours Hitler decided to take the fate of the German people and cast its lot with the Soviet people of the USSR. We have been unable to reach Stalin for hours now. There are rumors that he has locked himself in a room and refused to come out. We must immediately rally the people and the armed forces to defend the mother land at all cost. Who knows what the Germans have planed for us. No one has been able to stop their tyrannical rage of conquering territories in Europe. Hopefully we will be the first …..or maybe the last nation to fall…

news1.jpg

USSR Diplomacy:

High Command has seen fit to engage the current allies to feel them out. See where they stand on the USSR. This is the current situation on which nations are against us.

policitalmap1.jpg

USSR ARMY COMMAND:

Set up defense positions immediately. High Command feels the need to try and bring down the nation of Finland as our first priority if we are to go on the offense.

USSR Intelligence:

Try and figure out what the Germans have for Armed forces.

USSR Production:
Decrease upgrades and concentrate on producing brigades for the infantry divisions.

USSR AIR FORCE and USSR NAVY:

Do not engage the enemy, only under absolute circumstances!

USSR High Command:

We will try and reach Stalin in the next couple of days. Remember gentleman we are defending the motherland at all cost. We will not give one inch to the enemy unless we put of a valiant fight.

USSR High Comand:

We know there has been some missed information but we know we can do a better job of it from here on forward. (Basically this is my first time and I am still getting the hang of doing this.)

USSR ARMY COMMAND: Finland
Here is our current situation in Finland. We have lost the territory of Murmansk but we plan to counter attack when we have enough forces. We will then work our way from the south to the north capturing the key territories to annex once and for all Finland.

battle3.jpg

USSR ARMY COMMAND: North, Center, South
Here is the current situation for the USSR being on the defensive. We will attempt to hold the first line of defense. However, if this is not possible we should fall back to our second line of defense. The first would force the Germans to have a huge front. The second line of defense would force the Germans to cross the river Roslav.

Thanks for following this. I am not even sure if I'll will. Guess we'll see.

Wow,this will be pretty hard.Good luck ^^

Thank you. I'll need it

Great idea!

This reminds me a bit of Rich-Love's AAR.

Ya. I always play Germany. I figured I'd just change sides after I conquerd Europe.
