    Victoria Tutorial - Final version

Here it is, my Victoria Tutorial. Download the file and extract to your Victoria directory. It doesnt overwrite anything. Load up the game, select Victoria Tutorial from the game menu and load up Belgium (the only choice). It should lead you through all the main concepts of the game, and then let you play around a bit in a sandbox before a practice war.

    File download: http://www.mediafire.com/?wmmmimnjztn

I would be interested in hearing any feedback on it.

EDIT -This tutorial is for revolutions. If people like it/there is demand for it I can modify it and make one for the normal Victoria. Though the main differences are capatlists dont build and party polices have fewer effects.

EDIT - I forgot to say that I would like to thank jonesy1289 for helping me put this mod together.

Do I put the tutorial folder into the scenarios folder once it's extracted? Or do I just leave the whole thing in the directory?

Edit: Never mind, I've done it. Looking forward to using this.

I was thinking what does being a vet have to do with anything. There arent any animals or anything! Well maybe a few injured horses!!

Then it clicked, your a veteran player. DOH!

A fair few people have downloaded this now, does anyone have any comments? Is it helpful (for a newbee)? Has any newbee tried it and found it useful? Could it do with more interactive stuff? Or is it fine as it is? Just looking for some feedback as to its use (it is afterall a sort of interactive wiki) or how it could be improved. Is the info accurate? Or could it be improved. Does it flow well? Does it make sense (particularily the pausing part of the tutorial)?

Darn... I've been looking for one of these but I only have normal Victoria. Ah well.

Edit: I tried it out anyway, but It just CTDs. Sounds like a useful tool though.

    Critical error

As a latecomer to Victoria this looked like just the thing I needed. Got a problem though. Not sure what I'm doing wrong but I've copied the files into the scenarios folder as directed but when I start Victoria and click on the Tutorial option I get a critical error. The text reads:

    --- ERROR: (Missing = in statement.) ' -1 = {' Line = file = scenarios\Tutorial.eug ---

Any ideas please? I'm running Vicky with Revolutions but no mods under Vista.

    Cheers

    Baza

Now you have a reason to upgrade.

How does this tutorial work? I have just started it and it's not giving me any info.

  16. #16
i got the game two days ago and despite reading the manual and playing a few nations for several years i had absolutly no idea what i was doing (and thats with coming from EU2) - very good thanks it's cleared up most of the basics

Sorry for the late reply, I have been busy lately and have not been checking the forums.

    To Hyfrydle and Baza

The files need to be copied into the main directory, as the top folder of the download is the scenarios file. If done correctly, there should be a folder called Tutorial and a file called tutorial.eug. i.e. victoria\scenarios\tutorial and victoria\scenarios\tutorial.eug. Make sure that is the case. Check that there is not a scenario file inside the scenarios file.

Make sure you load the victoria tutorial from the nation selection screen when you start the game, and play as Belgium.

I just downloaded it again and put it into my vanilla vic (with rev) and it works fine. It could be a corupt download if it is giving errors.

Anyway, I am sure both of you have now mastered the game (seeing as your posts were months ago), but hopefully this will be useful for anyone else who uses the tutorial.

Thankyou Lord Raglan, glad it helped you. My only issue with it is the fact it is so wordy. Hard to take it all in and really understand it. As you can see, it was really hard to make any of it interactive. It does at least allow you to look at the game as it explains what things are.

Jingle_Bombs, although I made it for rev, it should work for vanilla. Unless a tag or something changed which causes a CTD. At what point does it CTD? I guess I could test it out on a vanilla vic without rev and try and find out.

lol yeah that was a late reply, I've gotten quite good at the game since

Anyway, I've still got it knocking around on my hard drive, so I'll test it out.

Edit: Yep, same as before. It CTDs with no explanation as soon as you click on it from the list. dunno why it'd do that...

Hmm, will have to look at it. Its prob the enddate in the tutorial.eug file that messes it up (it should be 1920 not 1936 for vanilla). Just from looking at it, that seems the most obvious issue.

Glad to hear that you have mastered the game! I hope that you are enjoying it. It is a very good game!

Yep! I've now bought all the Paradox games in fact, including EU3, but I still keep coming back to Vicky. The best of the bunch really.
