**Working on a Banner to put here for VICTORY IN EUROPE**
August 1st, 1953
BBC Home and Forces Program
"This is the BBC home and forces program. This is Bruce Belfrage. Victory in Europe. Those words were on the tips of everyone’s tongues today as Canada and the United States of America signed the surrender documents in Madrid earlier this morning. Only days ago, Axis forces defeated the last remnants of the Allied armies in Europe at Gibraltar of Oviedo in Spain. After 14 long years of conflict, the war in Europe, and much of the war abroad, is finally over. All over the continent, people have taken to the streets with joy and happiness. Tears of joy and sadness are visible anywhere you look. Everyone is pleased to see that the world’s most brutal and horrific conflict is finally coming to an end. Officers and soldiers alike have rejoiced in this final victory. For many, it means time to go home; to family and friends they have not seen since the start of the conflict. To children they missed growing up. For others, it is not so pleasant, as many lost everything they had in the nuclear attacks that took place over the war. Some still have the duty to mop up the African campaign, where French forces continue to resist. Those however, as we have been told, are going to be made up of volunteers."
In the United States, however, the situation continues to spiral out of control. With the collapse in Europe, the recent nuclear attack on Washington, and recent conflict between the government and its people, it is now widely believed to have plunged into civil war. To the west, California has recently declared its secession from the United States and has declared war. Following this declaration, independence movements grew in a matter of days across the entire continent. Texas has declared its independence, and so have the southern states. The southeastern states have unified under the old banner of the Confederate States of America, and are claiming that they will bring the entire country together once again. In Canada, the province of Quebec demanded its freedom, as it feels it was unjustly treated through the war, and that more French-Canadians were forced into the front lines then regular Canadians."
"Germany, as a sign of goodwill, has declared that it will not support any of the independence movements in North America. It has urged other Axis signatories to uphold the same policy, though said it will not force them to do so."
**Hmm, I think I should work on a VE day banner of some sorts for this update. Lord Slowpoke: Worth the wait?
