There was once great Finnish ahistorical site called Valtakunta - Kokonaisvaltainen Ratkaisu, but sadly the site has now been for weeks down.

Hi gang,
Two ideas have been brought up. One of them involves reichskomissariats. The original developer rejected the idea and I concur. They were simply administrative divisions. In the game design they become national provinces over time from certain events and investments. Reichskommisariats represented as puppet states means no partisans and I don't think this is realistic.
The original developer also rejected the idea of Hitler death on the grounds that he is alive in the book in the 1960s. However, I will resolve the issue differently with a compromise.
Event A--January 30, 1953-- Hitler is in the middle of giving a speech on the 20th anniversary of his coming to power when he suddenly collapses. Martin Borman, who has carved out a considerable powerbase as Hitler's appointment secretary, quickly intervenes and orders the Fuhrer rushed to the hospital. An unknown doctor whose identity we are never told of (only Borman knows who he is and he's not talking--rumor is that it's either a Jewish physician leading a shadowy underground life--such people were actually called "U-boats", or an Oriental medicine specialist known to Alexander von Falkenhausen and Chiang Ching-kuo, or some secret contact in the UK, or maybe it's a whole team of specialists) Either way he gets qualified medical help. This doctor then summons Dr. Morrel, and reviews his prescriptions. He recognizes Dr. Morrel as a quack, but the Fuhrer is elaborately deceived and told that Dr. Morrel came up with a new miracle cure. Morrel is ordered behind the scenes to change his treatments. Part of the treatment is more rest, and Hitler becomes more of a semi-retired ceremonial figure even though officially still in charge.
Check this website:
http://www.itmonline.org/arts/parkinsons.htm.
As a result of this treatment he is completely cured. Without Mao to close off China to the world, Oriental medicine becomes much more widely known to the west and much sooner than in the real timeline.
On event A the German player is given two choices. option_a "Get the Fuhrer qualified help" is this special treatment which sleeps death event B. option_b is "The Fuhrer will see only Dr. Morrel". If this option is chosen there is "no immediate effect", but we all know that this allows death event B to occur.
Event B--March 5, 1953 (date chosen to coincide with Stalin's death IRL)
The Fuhrer dies and a successor is named--I'm open to ideas but to me the logical choices are
Goering
Doenitz
Himmler
Borman.
I tend to favor Himmler primarily because of the Waffen SS, and the need for Germany to establish good relations with its Asian associates. Borman can keep his #2 position as the real power behind the scenes. Naturally Himmler had his dark side also. If Borman becomes #1 I'd say Speer #2 as Corporate Suit if he does not already have a HOG personality.

Hess is out of the picture. The last act of the Churchill administration was to put Hess on a submarine and take him to Canada where he is held in a top-secret facility. The Allies would never ever release Hess due to what he might reveal about British intelligence if he talked.
If you want to change the probability of the Fuhrer dying then change the choice probabilities in Event A.
This cannot be called a "Fatherland" mod unless there is a significant chance of Hitler staying alive. But in effect this will be a user option.
Initial testing will be a bare-bones project just to verify stability, but that doesn't mean that I haven't accepted the ideas. They'll just be implemented later. I personally think the top areas for improvement are #1 Platinean War
#2 Oil resources events in Middle East #3 Decline in US oil production.
Although hot war is conceivable I think cold war with a battle for proxies and points is the more common outcome.
China can be improved. I'll make that my area. Recent finds of about 40 more pro-Japanese Chinese leaders and 200 more Chi-com generals means there are now 3 different factions in China that can contend for power each with an independently adequate number of generals. Right now there are only 2 in the game at start--Empire of China (Pu-Yi) and Nationalist China (Chiang), but Communist China has always been in the background as a possible released puppet of just about anybody.
Right now am working on revision of the USA elections essentially keeping most of them but updating the code to sleep the vanilla events. Also updating USA files. JFK assassination is eliminated because Vanilla has an event and that is now irrelevant for the mod. USA politics is more manageable by the player. You'd probably want to steer the USA toward the left of its historical path.
India is leader of the Comintern and if they can get a Chinese and Soviet alliance the Comintern may actually be able to pull off a victory on points.

I can only applaudse your ideas and I am very happy to see that I made the right choice for the succession of this mod. The Hitler dead (or survival) chain is probably going to add something very interesting to this mod.

I also hope you keep the 'Colonization of the East' events for Germany, even if you can modify them as you wish. As you arrived at the same conclusions than me about the Reichkommisariats (they are only administrative divisions, in no way free nations. The HoI2 concepts of 'puppet' imvolves that the puppeted country is officialy 'independent' wich is unpossible with oriental administrative units).

In my designs I saw India as the leader of most of the new emerging nations of the third world or decolonized regions. Even if decolonization apear a bit late in our timeline it can be rushed a bit in this TL considering that both France and the British Empire are terribly weakened, and the US (being known for its anti-colonialism) pressing for freedom of the colonies.

I also had some ideas I never had the time to put on 'paper'- a sort of crisis within Germany's cicle of friends that may cause dissent in the European Union. The crisis would start in Hungary, with Horty becoming old and eventualy wishing to restaure the monarchy in Hungary. Otto I of Habsburg, the legitimate candidate accept but he is know for hating Hitler and also have claims on the thrones of both Austria and Bohemia. It is very likely that Germany will then send the panzers in Budapest (Hungarian Revolution, like in our timeline but a bit different). This move is of course backed by an opportunistic Romania and it will (certainly) end up in a nazi government being installed in Hungary.

This will however have major consequences on Germany's allies opinion about this alliance, with Germany openly taking care of their internal affairs. Finland (isolated, and democratic) will most likely leave the EU (only to jump in quickly under USA's protection). Germany start blockade of St-Petersburg in answer to this- something like the blocade of West Berlin by the Soviets. Air-supply of the city begins.

What do you think about those ideas?

Gen Grant,
Thanks for stopping by. Priority now is a working release with fluff added later. CCIP was not built in a day and neither will Fatherland be. Also eyeing eventual extension of tech tree but not for now. I have slightly different ideas--expand instead of replacing the base system for DD/DDA. It looks like the tech screen can fit one or maybe 2 more levels of infantry, mountain, etc.
Will more or less keep original ideas of the team, such as your colonization of the east events with some code revisions so that it does not become an exploit to save and reload. After that probably Platinean War, events to reflect the oil situation, plus whatever else the team wants to suggest.

Suggestion

Hi, I have a suggestion, and only a suggestion. I am new to this site and I don’t know anything about making a mod.
I think it could be a great idea to base the mod on the website: http://valtakunta.eu/ (which doesn’t work).
If anyone knew the website before it went down, maybe they could tell us more about it. It was a great site telling the story of the 3 Reich, EU and the Führer’s successor.

jkf. You can get the archived site from web.archive.org. If you can translate the relevant portions into English that will be helpful.

News for everyone. I have updated the USA ministers file for DD/DDA compatibility and the elections events. I have updated files for the 3 main Chinese states. (Chiang Kai-Shek's Republic of China, Pu Yi's Empire of China, and the inactive but potentially releasable Communist China) Communist China will not necessarily be Communist, even though it has only the historically Communist people for game compatibility. These updates reflect new information that has only come out in the last few months on the forums, including about 300 leaders. A special thanks goes out to the New Nations mod. I've had my differences with them in the past, but their list of new Communist China leaders has been a gold mine and as far as I can tell they are valid, as I was given a reference to a Chinese military site for verification.

Plans: Once I get the files straightened out, plan an alpha release in two forms:
Form 1) Will include updated events, tech tree and model graphics of the original. If you use this version, I STRONGLY recommend you either back up your entire installation of Hearts of Iron or use ModHoi, which is included in the Kaiserreich and Confederate Armageddon packages.
Form 2) Will include only events and files. It will use the tech tree and model graphics you have installed on the system. Although it is still best to back up your system to be sure, it should not mess up a vanilla game. The tech levels will not be accurate, though.

I believe a major mistake made by most postwar mods is the replacement rather than addition to the tech tree. See the link in the bottom of my sig. I'll see what comes out of the Tech Tree Improvement Project. If not I'll have to adapt the tree myself, which is not an easy thing at all. For every new tech you have to edit about 6 files.

For final release my goal is to either recommend an enhanced tech tree installation or make it part of the mod.

Anyone with experience in modding tech trees is welcome to volunteer.

Hitler death events have been written. As written there is a 50 % chance of that occurring and if so there are three possible successors--Doenitz, Goebbels, and Goering, with the odds slightly favoring Doenitz. These three were chosen because they are already in the files.

If you need any more event writers, call me.

Zombie Slayer.
Contributions are always accepted, especially by those willing to do the writing. What did you have in mind?

Well, really, whatever you need, I can probably write.

Just give me a general idea of the kind of event you want, and I can write it.

Of course, if you want me to think up the event as well as write it, then I would request some information on the current statuses of the Middle East, Africa and Latin America in this mod.

Thanks much Zombie Slayer. IMO the three most important addons are:
1) oil events--Saudi Arabia historically is swimming in oil. But in the HOI2 setup it has essentially nothing. All the oil is in the eastern province--the oil ran in a belt between Kuwait and Oman. Except for Saudi Arabia all the Arabian peninsula is controlled by Germany and its allies. Yemen and Oman are puppets of Germany. If Saudi Arabia became German-controlled the US and its allies would not have much of a chance. I'd recommend as a starter an event popping up sometime in 1948 as a US event to develop the oilfields in return for a US guarantee of independence. US acceptance of the idea should be almost 100& chance. If not then Saudi Arabia should try to get someone else to develop them. Someone else might be Italy, Germany, Dietsland (FLA for now) or Free France. But only an extremely stupid USA would say no. Check out CCIP or my own mod for guidance on how to write add_province_resource events. You'll also need events to REDUCE the amount of oil in Texas and Oklahoma at some random time in the 1950's and perhaps a series of events. When they pop up US should be given a choice to make more investments and raise the price of oil (suggest dissent +1 and money -300) or the drop in production takes place. If the USA declines the Saudi overtures there should be an increased chance of the investments.
2) A series of steps involving further US investments and finally leading to full alliance of USA and Saudi Arabia. Also possible are USA sponsored revolts in Qatar and UAE. This would lead to proxy war between Germany and USA--leading to SCW type intervention events. You'd then need peace events when one side wins and a cease fire agreement if neither side can win in about 3 months. Although I'll probably change the tag numbers later, use U04 as the Qatar tag and U05 as the UAE tag. Another thing is the historical agreement of the United Arab Republic that temporarily makes Syria a part of Egypt. Use historical dates.
3) Platinean War OOB--pillage the Platinean War Scenario for that and create an event for its start and presumably interventions by Germany (for Argentina) and USA or even Soviet Union for Brazil.

Remember a real war would be nuclear so the two sides (USA and Germany) fight by proxies.
#1 and #2 are higher priorities, and resource events are easiest to write.
Post events to this thread. Thank you.

Here's a preview of the tech tree for infantry. It is an extension of the tech already on the system. "Attack helicopters" has been moved to infantry from secret techs but the id has been maintained for backward compatibility. The prerequisites are unchanged. Other secret techs are needed, such as ship to ship missiles.

Anyone with concrete ideas feel free to comment

Hello nomonhan,

I already had a look on event scripting in HoI2, and while I don't feel like reagulary contributing, I may drop some code time to time. The thing is, are those scripts in latest Fatherland release ready for reworking them?

Raht,
Welcome to Paradox forums. Just contribute what you feel like. I suggest looking at some normal game events and some events in some mods. Basically in event writing you copy and paste the event and alter the particulars. Also look at some tutorials on modding.

For all
techsarmorjj6.png

Added 2 levels of tank destroyer, AT artillery, Main Battle Tank, SP Art and SP Rocket Art, one level of Field artillery and armored cars. Also added another level of anti-air brigade, but you won't see it on this menu. It will be accessible from secret Weapons as an advance on Surface to Air Missiles. Historically I believe the Soviets were first to exploit SAMS and deployed a fixed missile defense around Moscow in about 1950. In about 1954, they introduced the SAM-2, a mobile system widely used around the world. It will be reflected as an anti-air brigade that is highly effective against planes but less effective against other things that the earlier anti-air brigades worked against. Unlike most upgrades, this will NOT scrap the earlier models.

Hi nomonhan
I don't know a lot about modding only writing events, so if you need some help just let me know.
I would love to see this mod finished!!
And what about Heydrich, he was alive in the book too?!

According to the wiki Heydrich did live. The scenario will not be 100% faithful to the book. Although Robert Harris displayed a good sense of the world when he wrote the book, we now know more things so certain things would be different. For example India is independent and becomes leader of the third world bloc. British intelligence hid the existence of Subhas Chandra Bose for 50 years. He had a close relationship with Hitler and was promised support after the planned German attack on the South Caucusus. But it looks like I'll have to put in Heydrich as possible HOS. From what I read he was their most competent leader (which is why Allied intelligence wanted him knocked off) so I imagine I'd make him Stern Imperialist.
Here's a link for the book.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatherland_(novel)

Right now priority is a tech tree and it seems that mods based on Cold War are not as helpful as I'd like, although I have gotten permission to use a few ideas of others--Koenig12's cold war land doctrines which initially seem to be well thought out, and IR Night Vision from of all people an Austria modder Van Diemen. Also have gotten permission to adapt (and credit the original users for) several icon styles for the extra model upgrades. Unfortunately, supporting text strings are often missing in things I'd like to use, necessitating research or improvisation on my part.

Fernando Torres,
I have permission from Koenig 12 to create and use Mod33 style icons with credit given, so if you want you can create some icons for land units:

MODEL_0_8;Infantry '56;Infanterie '56;
MODEL_0_9;Infantry '62;Infanterie '62;
MODEL_1_6;Air Cavalry '54;Cavalerie aérienne '54;
MODEL_1_7;Air Cavalry '57;Cavalerie aérienne '57;
MODEL_1_8;Air Cavalry '60;Cavalerie aérienne '60;
MODEL_1_9;Air Cavalry '63;Cavalerie aérienne '63;
MODEL_2_5;Motorized Infantry '55;Infanterie motorisée ‘55;
MODEL_2_6;Motorized Infantry '59;Infanterie motorisée '59;
MODEL_2_7;Motorized Infantry '63;Infanterie motorisée '63;
MODEL_3_6;Mechanized Infantry '55;Infanterie mécanisée ‘55;
MODEL_3_7;Mechanized Infantry '59;Infanterie mécanisée '59;
MODEL_3_8;Mechanized Infantry '63;Infanterie mécanisée '63;
MODEL_5_8;Modern Main Battle Tank;Char de combat III;(Label as IX)
MODEL_5_9;Elite Main Battle Tank;Char de combat IV;(Label as X)
MODEL_6_6;Airborne '56;Aéroporté ‘56;
MODEL_6_7;Airborne '62;Aéroporté ‘62;
MODEL_7_6;Marines '56;Infanterie de marine ‘56;
MODEL_7_7;Marines '62;Infanterie de marine ‘62;
MODEL_8_6;Mountain '56;Alpine ‘56;
MODEL_8_7;Mountain '62;Alpine ‘62;
You can make them for generic and
USA, GER, SOV, FRA, ENG for now, and duplicate the new French ones with the Vichy tag (I've already duplicated the existing French so I only need the Vichy units for the new models.). I've already done generic air cavalry also
Click on this link for existing Mod 33 icons and all my improvements

Fernando Torres,
The Mod 33 style has a simple graphic of a soldier of the unit or a tank, ship or plane , the model year (or Roman numerals I, II, III....) in a specific size typeface and a flag. I consider that "Mod33 style". There is a difficulty with the fact that some abbreviations are in French but that does not affect any land units. It can be resolved by adapting standard abbreviations like "BB" "CA", etc, and maybe "M-R" for multirole fighter as opposed to the French "CHA"/ Also I think there are a few model year differences with vanilla but that does not affect any new models.

SKIF is very nice but more difficult to make. If you wish you can download the whole SkIF pack and make some later models. The original Fatherland team made some SKIF icons but only for Generic and German models. But there will be a difference in the numbering scheme because of different tech tree designs. Original Fatherland (and most cold war mods) REPLACE the tech tree, and one result of that is that if you have gone to the trouble to install a graphic pack you are forced to throw it out.One of the problems with original Fatherland was that if you already got SKIF icons they would come up with the wrong model year for everything but the Generic and German units.

My idea is to ADD ON to what Paradox has already released for DD/DDA. Paradox vanilla only covers up to about 1953. Paradox made no new models when they released Armageddon.

My original plan was to offer a choice of SKIF or Mod33 icons. The other choice is to adapt the MDS icons ( I also have their permission) but I'd only do this for generic models of the ones not included in Vanilla, and would not make any nation-specific models. MDS style fits fairly well when added on top of Vanilla.

If you'd rather do SKIF icons let me know.
