FINLANDS STRUGGLE

Right so here it is my first AAR and hopefully it will last and I won't get the shit kicked out of me by the Russians in the Winter War.

My two goals

1) Build up IC and army until Winter war.
2) Capture all of Scandanavia and maybe Denmark

The game will be played on furious/hard so I may lose quite quickly. My stratagy in the battlefield may not be brilliant only because I'm an amateur so anly help will be appreciated so here we go. Update hopefully tonight, probably tomorrow.

Oh dear, you'll be in trouble.

The game fails to simulate the factors that made Finland survive the Winter War.
No proper penalties from the woodland terrain, the narrow roads unsuitable for motorized divisions, the -40 C temperatures or the inadequate Soviet tactics and preparation... Nor is there any bonus effect for the Finnish "spirit of Winter War", the strong fighting will that unified the nation.

Nope, it's just a small, poor country fighting alone against a huge superpower. And Hard/Furious...? Oh dear, oh dear. I think you'll have to just cede territory in the "Winter War ends" event in order to survive, and go for a revenge when Barbarossa begins.

Maybe I'm going ahead of things, though. Have a good AAR. I might be following.

I disagree, I already played as Finland, well with the '39 scenario not the '36 one. They have very useful forts which aren't ever attacked by the Soviets, a small, but well-experienced modern army with some Mountain Divisions and lots of damn good leaders(nearly all of them are Winter Specialists so it helps). The Reds have a bit more troops(far from an overwhelming superiority although I played on Furious) and their leaders sux. I could even reproduce the Soumassalmi Battle pretty historically, encircling 2 divisions of the Red Army in Central Finland then destroying them. Of course I had to lose some territories but the elastic defense works very well.

Now Mozla said he will start a '36 scenario. On one hand, he will be able to get prepared for the war during 4 whole years. On the other, the Soviet Union too. So I would say, the key of the victory is in the preparation. There are little hope for a better result than the historical one, though.

Edit: Mozla, actually with your goals it should be wise to get Scandinavia BEFORE starting the preparation for the winter war. The benefits from an early annexion of Norway and Sweden are self explanatory, and it could be the little bonus that let you survive against the SU.

Maybe things have changed since I last played... Anyhow, I want to see an AAR of that!

No matter what are the odds, Finland will always win if it is expected to lose.

However, if Finland is expected to win, it will explode like Hindenburg.

The Struggle Begins!

Finlands current situation potential enemies on all sides, the most dangerous the USSR. My plan like all good plans is to do nothing,

I will wait until the end of the Winter war and then probably invade Norway before the Germans get their hands on it. Really Sweden is no threat until I make it so.

Finlands current production problem, IC is certainly a problem I'm afraid that my army won't be at full strength when the red beast comes a' knockin. And current devlopments will be hindered.

The Finish government do they look like they can open a can of baked beans never mind run a country, anyway the decision is made to move the slider towards standing army to help organization.

At January 1st consruction is ordered of infastructure in the northern provinces to help vital factory devlopments.

The border to Russia, the question is can we defend it, the answer is clearly we simply must.

Finish troops have been moved to the borders to assist troops already there to stop or at least delay the red hordes. This is to prevent a war but it might just provoke a early one.

Their efforts are futile we will still slaughter and pillage their countries.

Following recent posts I need IC so one of my fellow scandanavian countries will have to be put to the sword but which one Norway- 19/20 IC guaranteed inderpendace by Britain and France.
Sweden- 28/30 IC guaranteed independance by Britain and Germany

I say Norway because the democracies that guarantee its independence won't dow you, but Germany will if you go after Sweden.
