The Revenge of the Bear
Chapter 13 : Damned is the Dawn of a New Day
Despite suffering a diplomatic slap during the Congress of San Francisco because of the over meddliness of some Europeans and of the Empire of Japan, the Russian Empire none the less came out as a decisive winner of the Chinese War. She gained expansive swathes of territory, countless resources and millions of new “non-subject colonial subjects” to exploit in the best fashion of a colonial power. In the year 1886, Russia was with no doubt the strongest power in the world, with the strongest economy and army.
In the year 1886, the title of Alexader II the Liberator reflected the might and expansiveness of the Russian Empire. By the Grace of God, he was Emperor of all the Russias, of Constantinople, Jerusalem, Moscow, Kiev, Vladimir, Novgorod; Tsar of Kazan, Tsar of Astrakhan, King of Poland, Tsar of Siberia, Tsar of Tauric Chersonesos, Tsar of Georgia, Tsar of Bulgaria; Lord of Pskov, and Grand Duke of Smolensk, Lithuania, Volhynia, Podolia, Finland, Poznan and Silesia; Prince of Estonia, Livonia, Courland and Semigalia, Samogitia, Belostok, Karelia, of Tver, Yugra, Perm, Vyatka, and other territories; Lord and Grand Duke of Nizhny Novgorod, Chernigov; Sovereign of Ryazan, Polotsk, Rostov, Yaroslavl, Beloozero, Udoria, Obdoria, Kondia, Vitebsk, Mstislav, and all the northern territories; and Sovereign of Iveria, Kartalinia, and the Kabardinian lands and Armenian territories; Hereditary Lord and Ruler of the Cherkass and Mountain Princes and others; Emperor of Manchuria and Korea, Khan of Mongolia, Lord of Turkestan and Kashgar; Heir of Norway, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein, Stormarn, Dithmarschen, Oldenburg, and so forth, and so forth, and so forth.
Alexander the Second came to be known as the Tsar Liberator
But, unfortunately, all things must come to an end and Alexander’s came on March the 13th, 1887 when the seventy years old Tsar collapsed during a review of the Life Guards of the Reserve Infantry and the Life Guards of the Sapper Battalion regiments at the Menege, suffering a fatal cardial arrest that his private doctors could do nothing about. The entire Empire was plunged into a deep state of shock. In some parts of the Empire people wept and cried, the grief especially important in Bulgaria where the Emperor was often seen as a semi-god who crushed the Turks and liberated them after half a thousand years of occupation and abuse. In other parts, silent vigils were held as people remembered a monarch who, without being soft, was ready to compromise. And this feeling was especially strong amongst the Poles, as they owed much to the Tsar Liberator.
The feeling of sadness and grief spread beyond the borders of the Russian Empire, as people in Belgrade and Athens held silent vigils to honour a man to whom they also owed much. From Washington to Madrid, passing by Stockholm and the Hague, sincere messages of condolence arrived, comforting the Imperial family in a state of shock of grief. The royal houses of Europe and Brazil regretted the passing of such an illustrious monarch, whilst US President Grover Cleveland cited Alexander’s immense personal role in bringing democracy and freedom to the Russian Empire.
From London, Paris, Vienna and Berlin condolences arrived, too, worded diplomatically, cold and polite. All things said frankly, these capitals actually let forth a collective sigh of relief at the death of a man that came to impersonate the Devil for them, a Devil who controlled close to half the world with his endless hordes of soldiers.
Alexander III was crowned by the Patriarch of Moscow, an event
attended by many honourable and prominent guests
After Alexander’s state funeral, attended not only by allied and friendly heads of state, but also by millions of mourners, came a period of mourning. Alexander’s role as Emperor of all the Russias was taken up by his son, Alexander Alexandrovitch, who was crowned as Alexander III in May 1888. It was the first time that a Russian Emperor came to be crowned by the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia (and, by extension, of Constantinople) since a very long time.
The new Emperor was known for his staunch Russian nationalism. It was why major foreign capitals expected Russia to enter a period of interior wrangling, which would leave the outside world able to breathe a bit. This was not good news to the Poles, however, as the last thing they needed was an overly eager Emperor ruining everything they have managed to accomplish hand in hand with the previous Emperor.
But Alexander Alexandrovitch had other plans.
One can only wonder what the new Emperor has in mind.

Are you going to war again?
With who? Japan, Germany, Britain?
A new Emperor who is over-eager and anxious to get his hands stuck into the business of ruling and aggrandising has plans

The Revenge of the Bear
Intermezzo 6 : God Must Be Lazy
The present update shall be carried out in a purely gameplay fashion. Actually, in no fashion at all. Why? I have just returned from my holidays in Tsargrad and am too lazy to type anything that resembles a history book. Also, I am shaking my booty to Demet Akalin. But don’t tell anyone, because I am really a metalhead and with long hair and stuff… Hartilatayim musadenle fazla degil gecen sene… Euh… where was I? Ah, yes!
Today’s update shall be about the industry! Factories, factories, more factories! I have compiled an overall table of the industrialized States of the Russian Empire. It came out to be rather big, so you shall forgive me for the bigness. *nodnod*
Biz ayrildik seve seve barismamiz bir mucize…
Russian Industrial Development by the years 1888-1889[/url]
As you can see, apart from the lonely factory in Alaska, everything else is located in European Russia. Yeah… Ne uzulur ne sikilir sadece birazcik dusunur… Uh-huh. As you can see, I’ve put blue brackets in the states where the RGOs are steadily depopulated to feed my ever growing industrial hunger. Annexing half of China really helped in that sense, as all the stuff that I produced in those States now comes from the colonies!
The next update shall be called “God Must Be Lazy 2” and shall deal with a lot of screenshots of factories. As I go state by state and present you my outputs. Ooooh! Sevgili koluma takarim bebekte uc bes tur atarim o/
Yet again, sorry for this and the following update being quite different to the general style of the AAR, but... olmadi bide sinema yaparim gordugun gibi cok unutkanim... Gah! Blame Demet!

As of the factories, I apparently have 62 factories. Actually, there is also a level 1 luxury goods factory on Crete, but I cannot staff it as I do not have any culture pops and the Ottoman AI did not bother turn some local Turks into craftsmen/clerksSo that makes a total of 63 factories.

The Revenge of the Bear
Intermezzo 7 : God Must Be Lazy 2
In this update, we continue our overview of Russia’s industrial capacities for the years 1888-1889. This time, you shall be presented to a state-by-state status of the industrial development. As compiling the screenshots takes time, I shall post what I have compiled so far and leave the rest for another day.
And next time, I play some far away uncivilized African minor so that I shall never ever ever have the need to compile screenshots of sixty two blonking factories!
Moscow Governorate
As can be seen, Moscow is the industrial heart of Russia. Cosily situated away from the possible front lines, it produces pretty much everything and anything. Due to the need of manpower, I have turned nearly all national labourer and farmer POPs into craftsmen and clerks. I think I still have some Uralic POP somewhere and a couple Russian POPs that will get their butts turned into craftsmen/clerks whenever I can bother.
I have left out an empty liquor distillery due to its output being of 0 and me preferring to expand the steel mill and staff it with available POPs.
Petersburg Governorate and Finland
Petersburg is my second industrial hub. An important one at that, due to the small arms and clipper convoy manufacturing. And also clothes. Clothes are good for a cold country like Mother Russia & Kids Inc.
Suomi is maybe one of the laziest of Russia’s children and surely the laziest of her daughters. She doesn’t like to work much, spends her time roaming the streets of Helsinki and Tampere leaving her roubles at pubs and taverns listening to the 19th century equivalent of rock music (whatever it might be). But she's quiet, calm and causes no problems to her Mother, so Mom is happy. The factory in Savolax popped thanks to a VIP event and since Finns are not a national culture, I had to staff it by Ros and Beloros migrant POPs.
Poland and Poznan
N.B. Wrong name in picture! It's Poznan, not Silesia!
Mother Russia’s most problematic daughter and surely the whiniest daughter (with her ideals about liberalism, extended voting rights, cultural autonomy and other silly democratic romantic silliness), Polska is known to get along very well along with Suomi, with whom she shares many similarities, albeit draws the line at liking the 19th century equivalent of rock music. Nevertheless, Poland likes fabric and produces a lot of fabric in her spare time. As well as glass and machine parts in Poznan.
That factory in Poznan was most dishonestly stolen from Prussia. It was my very first machine parts factory. Why very first? Well, see below.
Governorates of Reval, Riga and Vitebsk
How did these factories end up in the Baltic? Well, these seemed the least worst of choices when the VIP events popped up. But hey, I just starved a couple Ros and Beloros craftsmen POPs to death to force them to relocate a bit to the Baltic… Mother Russia loves her people!
The factory in Vitebsk is due to a private initiative event. I did not yet have the VIP-event for machine parts.
Governorates of Minsk and Kiev
Minsk is a very important governorate, as that’s where Russia’s second steel mill is located. And as Russia’s still consumption is greater than Moscow’s output, you can understand why I cherish and huggle and snuggle that governorate.
Kiev is also important. That’s where the glass to feed Russia’s ever growing booze-producing industry is made. As you can see, Kiev also produces some booze locally.
This concludes the present update as I gotta run off to my rugby game. See ya all!
