Persia’s rebel problem gets worse

EU3_269.jpg

That’s a two province Candar that has broken free, revolt risk in Persian, Shiite provinces is around 10%. By the time Persia regains control two provinces defect and three declare independance. It's well over 130 points worth of provinces.

01/03/1647 Castile declares WAR on Candar

I’ve also shown a religious map of West Africa – Catholicism is now very widely spread. Remember there are no Catholic provinces in Africa in 1453.

31/08/1649 Quelimane converts

11/11/1649 Futa Jallon converts

01/01/1650 Land 26 – I choose Line Infantry, while I’m on the offensive overall, I try to fight defensive battles to maximise terrain bonuses. High manoeuvre rating generals are very useful to getting to a province first!

Ideally there will be no war before 01/05/1650 as my armies need to recover morale.

Next, I’ll do a set of screenies of various things that might prove interesting. I may also decide to start trading!

Any questions or any information you’d like to see shout up now and I’ll put it in the next post.

Yey, also now you can start converting the protestants and teh reformd.

Still some provinces to be converted, but you are doing a great job so far, soon all the Spanish Empire will be catholic and more expansion towards heretic lands will continue ;)

Straits of Gibraltar? That land connection doesn't hold water in my eyes (hohoho :D) but i do play IN so...

Anyway, Why not take the Mamelukes once and for all now?

The taint of heresy is nearly reduced utterly! :)

Lord Strange Burn Heretics, Burn!

Capibara What is this Spanish empire of which you speak? Castile to rule them all!

Enewald The Thousand Province Empire, that has a nice ring to it

Finding the governors, OMG how boring would that be? I bought Rome the day it came out in the UK but I was back playing EU3 within a couple of weeks - and that utterly tedious character thing was one of the main reasons.

robou The Straits of Gibraltar don't hold water? I'll have one of whatever you're drinking ;)

The Mamluks are still not an OPM, 100 points at a time makes for a lot of wars. I once took down a 2200 point Timurid Empire - Samarkand fell 25 times over a century. If only I could pull off a 1.21 style turbodefection :(

stnylan Quite!

My new 'Development Opportunity' at work has been explained to me this week - I'm going to be doing two fulltime jobs for the next three months (at least), which should be based in offices 100 miles apart  . I'm getting this because it will involve a lot of corporate politics and unhappy customer handling - just because I'm good at this stuff doesn't mean I enjoy it :(

Hopefully it won't impact on update rate but if things slow down that will be why.

Update 57

Update 57

The decision to Trade has been made, mainly because I’m curious as to whether I can make tech Level 60. In a similar vein economic development has been given a quick boost by spending 10,000 ducats or so on province improvements, mainly workshops and marketplaces.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here’s a blast from the past:

06/01/1587 Stats

BadBoy 262.78
War Exhaustion 6.72
Inflation 4.1%
Manpower 196k of 200k max
Reinforcement need 25,042
Census Tax 1612.26
Monthly income 706.6

And here’s how those numbers look now:

01/01/1650 Stats

BadBoy 635.53
War Exhaustion 0.92
Inflation 0%
Manpower 411k of 414k max
Monthly gain 17,252
Reinforcement need 7,230
Census Tax 3825.7
Monthly income 1683.0

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Behold my manpower and weep IN players – I get the impression that manpower is much more of an issue in IN. This is good, just like the boosted rebels; neither are much of a factor in 1.3.

I’ve embargoed Gotland, otherwise with Latin map spread and no competition they’ll start hyperteching. I have this vision of Castilian marines hitting the beaches of Gotland around 1790 and running up against Godzilla, Robocop and the Millennium Falcon.

Look what I’ve found!

EU3_277.jpg

Gotland is competing with you techwise? The land of the Crusading Sheep must be beaten if that is the case!

Gotland could have godzilla, sweet!

Gotland is playing how I like to. Staying small and being rich, so that if I do get invaded, the invaders are going to have to face automatic machine guns :p

You have found Japan and Ming, now what? A huge invasion of 200k men?

I finally finished reading through this. Great work conquering so much.

I think you should let Gotland hypertech, if only to see how far they get by the end. It'd probably be funny.

Enewald Found new provinces? Notice my Golden Helmet - I have a map

robou Gotland has had free run at a lot of COTs for decades.

comagoosie Gotland being Swedish will probably have self assembly future tech devices with silly names, such as the IKEA combat drone :D

At this point I was expecting the usual Japanese DOW and I was getting ready for stronger measures than we've seen so far. Things have gone differently

Sybot The plan is for me to hypertech, I'm interested to know how far I can get with Castile. Comedy Gotland technology levels feature in nearly every game of 1.3 that I've played.

Peace with Persia
- 13/05/1651

This peace gains both remaining Orthodox provinces previously under Persian rule and positions me one war from multiple directions of attack on the Timurids. I’m hoping to be able to attack the Timurids both north of the Caspian and through the central Iranian plateau.

How badly have I hurt Persia? 17/06/1651 Gotland declares war on Persia. This isn’t entirely risk free for Gotland; I’ve fought Persian ships in the Baltic in previous wars.

The rebel problem has essentially developed out of the AI habit of playing at -3 teamed with maxed out war exhaustion from using war taxes and never getting a chance to recover. Relentless pressure breaks the AI’s ability to resist so always make sure you have crippled a major enemy before moving on.

I tend to treat WC as a long march across Eurasia, beating one set of majors at a time. Right now Persia and Lithuania are dying, they might be decades from annexation (they are still 500-600 points) but it’s time to find new foes.

comagoosie - Catholics ruling the world yes, the world being Catholic unlikely. I'll have to have a think about what I could have done differently to achieve a better outcome.

robou Land war with Ming is still a couple of decades away. I'll get there around the same time I'll get to India so I want to prepare, that is clear out most enemies behind the new front lines.

Enewald It's a slow road to WC because I've told you all about it. Most AARs tend to jump over the BB wars in a couple of post with some maps and then say 'I won'.

I’m being rather careful not to add extra borders yet. Ming, Rajputana and Vijayanagar are all within a couple of provinces. A border with any of these will mean a long series of wars requiring a shift in my forces from current deployment areas months of travel east. Persia and Lithuania both still need further reduction before I can safely remove my armies from those theatres.

[1] The unsettled Orthodox province of Dongola is being settled. Dongola is one of three provinces that start as Orthodox but unsettled.
