Thread: What to do when game wont start (Works on both XP and Vista)

  1. #1

Exclamation What to do when game wont start (Works on both XP and Vista)

The installer contains some prerequisites which are needed to run the game.
They should be detected by the installer, but sometimes they does not. Make sure you ran the setup.exe when you installed (not the lei.msi).

You can try installing them manually. The are located in the subfolder "prerequisites" of the installer.

    The following is needed:
    DirectX
    NET20
    VCREDIST
    XNA 1.0 Refresh

For Vista you can leave out NET20

Unfortunately you or the publisher packed up the wrong DirectX needed, it needs the latest redist from Microsoft, namely the November 2007 one.

And, I think, for Vista you can leave out DX,as the installer only installs Dx9, and Vista ships with Dx10

  4. #4
    DX9 is also on Vista.

It will use DX9 when a non DX10 compatible card is available.

  5. #5
On Vista DirectX 9 is used for DirectX 9 applications.
DirectX 10 is only used for Direct10 applications

The game is build and tested with the DirectX August 2007 version which is packed with the installer. so it should not be necessary.

Unfortunately I had to manually get the November 2007 redist to even start the game.

And Ive seen people who tried my method report back that doing so did indeed start the game for them.

    so it still wont work

hello, bought the game and tried to install it and that was a hassel, at first it would say that i had to authenticate the publisher for my windows installer so i had to redownload and install my directX and other software to even get the game to install.

now that its installed, with the patch i wont run. i have installed all the prerequists and it still gives me "programs has stop working" etc.

i dont know what to do to get this game to work.

i have windows vista premium with 2g ram, and all the other requirements to run this game.

    please help
    thanks

I have that same problem, please find my files attached... I was rather looking forward to bashing away at this game tonight sigh..

i've updated all the prerequists, the install said I only needed the XNA but I've tried them all, only the windows installer failed (said I didn't have enough space)

i've checked the dx install an dI'm running dx 10 and dx9 is certainly past nov 07 redist.

Still says "the application has stopped working" the log file contains little too i'm afraid..

i can't attach the files here so am sending them to tech support email address...

This may stop your game from crashing when starting.

I was looking forward to trying LE, but the game crashed at startup. Wanting to report the error to microsoft.

I went ahead and reinstalled my directx AND updated my display drivers to the latest version.

I use a modified Catalyst driver for my Mobility ATI card. The driver can be found at guru3d.com (They have nVIDIA drivers too) and if you plan on using it on a a mobility card (in laptops) you have to patch the driver before installation with modtool for it to work..

If your more comfortable with the official drivers they can be found at:
    AMD (ATI)
    nVIDIA

    Hope it solves your problems

I manually installed the pre-reqs and the game still won't even load on either of my computers. Why does a game that hardly looks like state of the art need so many pre-reqs anyway? Note: I was watching the original install and they appeared to all install but I did a manual anyway because it was recommended. One computer has a ATI video card and the other a NVidia one, so both machines totally different drivers, both machines XP Pro. I don't think I've had a game not even boot since my DOS gaming days.

I attached the requested files to an email to support on Friday and have yet to receive a response.

Anyone have any luck with tech support? I'm getting ready to just saying screw it and taking it back and trying to at least get store credit.

    ***Edit***
reinstalled directx 9.0c even though every other game that needs it runs just fine and that worked.

Failure to install European version of LEI

    Hi,
For some reason I cannot install LEI. I live in the UK use vista and disabled virus protection to install. The additional stuff needed to start seems to have been uploaded. However, when installing the wizzard does not ask me for the serial number although they are on the game instructions but installs right away.
Later I get the the Info that I have not used an original DVD but a restoration disk an am referred to SecuROM. Which cannot not solve the problem neither.
    Any constructive ideas ?! Thx

So....the game *does* install. It just won't play and never asks for your serial number?

Yip, correct: It installs incorrectly since I cant start it properly and am given the info that I have to use the original disk (which i do of course). I am not even asked for the serial number.

I have the exact same error message as "gamemom". Not sure if system is similar as I have new iMac with 4GB and using Vista Home Premium on the Intel side of iMac. Have patched to v 1.04.

Any help would be appreciated. Sent same error message to Paradox, but no reply yet.

    to both of you:
what language version of the game are you using?
also goto MyDocuments\PolluxGamelabs\LostEmpireImmortals and open the "immortals.log" file and post the contents here.

Hmm. I thought all the vista UAC issues were resolved by 1.0.4. Try rightclicking your game icon and choose "Run As Administrator" and let me know if that solves the problem.

edit: actually it looks like this particular UAC issue was fixed in 1.0.4.1.

You have a couple of choices:

    1. Continue using 1.0.4 and run as adminstrator as I described above to play the game until the 1.0.5 patch comes out.
    2. Apply one of the beta patches that are found in the main lost empire forums. 1.0.4.3 has proven very stable and you can probably use it without any problems. 1.0.4.8 has one known crash that can occur when starting a new game sometimes but tends to have alot of game improvements over 1.0.4.3. I expect the official non-beta 1.0.5 patch will be out in a week or so.
