Thread: The Setting Sun - Gotterdammerung, Japan 1944.

It is my understanding that Remble has opted (with some insistence from us, the peanut gallery) to go the "paint the world yellow" route. I am also 99% certain he has said everyone will have a chance to join the glorious Japanese Empire, so that means everyone.

While my limited predictions have not been accurate thus far, I will try yet again--I suspect both the Allies and the Comintern will be nigh on to extinct before Remble efficiently annexes the "neutral" bystanders and that maybe 2 slider moves away. Again, just a guess, but Remble doesn't seem like the type of person to a) take dissent hits while at war, b) open up new, unnecessary fronts, and c) slow the progress against potentially dangerous enemies by diverting troops and resources to fronts that offer no benefits.

Btw, I've avoided gushing for a few months, but Remble, thank you for this enjoyable AAR!! I check for updates at very least daily and am thrilled with every addition.
A world is supported by four things: the learning of the wise, the justice of the great, the prayers of the righteous and the valor of the brave. But these are as nothing without a ruler who knows the art of ruling.

i guess that while getting the partisans it's more IC-wise to get eastern and cenral europe than to go after those weak neutral states in asia. firstly in doomsday there's not much time to go WC-ing, and those isolated countries mostly don't have any other trade possibilities than japan (saudi arabia might be different 'coz they have sea access, anyways they don't have discovered yet the oil supplies they have right now.)

Reado - Possibly but the Med has a lot of airbases in it and the Allies have a lot of Naval bombers. I may not wish to risk such a move for a while.

Sokraates - The IC loss for the Soviets was a good enough haul for the start of the offensive and I would expect July to be much more fruitful.

EnglandWarrior - Thank you and welcome aboard

genbrad, Manziel - The Soviets began with roughly 600 divisions and few puppet forces so adding those in and their builds during the last two years I would estimate closer to 800 divisions. Roughly 6000 manpower after trickleback.

Maj. von Mauser - Thanks. Osami and the Emperor were merely discussing the weather

    midget_roxx -

    elbasto - Thank you

Nathan Madien - Tibet will fall at some point but when I have not decided yet. I might deal with both it and Afghanistan after I placate the Soviets and before I begin my next course of action but I may wait even longer. Zhukov is still trying at least.

alan_le_cowboy - They have to fall eventually unless World Conquest is not going to happen

Kanil - Being neutral in a World War does tend to leave you open to being drawn into it when your potential enemies are strong enough to cause a lot of harm.

Grapp - I can't remember if Afghanistan gives partisan activity but I would get 1.1 dissent if I DoW.

zdlugasz, alan_le_cowboy - Next slider move in September will be towards Authoritarian to remove the dissent penalty for DoW as I will have to make several of them. Waiting another year to do this may cause unnecessary delays as I do not want to add dissent to my already battered TC to further hamper my forces. Standing Army is also nice but upgrade discount will become a little less important once my TAC's finish as I will have plenty of spare IC and not enough manpower to be able to use it all for builds.

harezmi - Both Countries certainly helped me by staying neutral but they must fall eventually.

togre - Thank you. You are pretty much accurate. My main focus is on the larger enemies as the smaller fish can be dealt with at my convenience. Getting side tracked into smaller wars is not a good idea when I am up against a clock that runs out in 1953. World Conquest has not been completely decided, just deferred. I am planning as if I am trying to do a World Conquest just in case it happens but it could end sooner if you guys want it too. That will be looked at again once the Soviets are as good as out of the way.

gooy - Correct. Central Europe has far more resources and IC to conquer than a few minor Countries but it does have one small drawback. Roughly 100 1951 German Infantry divisions waiting for me. The more logical approach for now would be to advance into Poland but not next to West Germany and then switch theaters of operation. Africa is probably the next logical target but I might risk antagonising the Germans and just blow their Infantry apart with my bombers.

    Update to follow ...

    1200 July 1st 1948.
Central Asia Army Headquarters. Bokovskaya, Soviet Union.
Hata's Central Asia Army continued to advance against very limited opposition as it headed towards the resource rich Ukranian provinces.

Having captured Stalino Yokoyama Isa turned south towards Melitopol to isolate the Crimea from the rest of the Soviet Union.

    0200 July 2nd 1948.
North China Army Headquarters. Uralsk, Soviet Union.
Soviet troops were more numerous in the North China Army area of operations as they moved from west to east to try and block Japanese advances.

Higashikuni ordered Hoshinata to attack Melekess to dislodge the single Soviet division in the province as a much larger enemy force moved towards the province from the west. Numerous Soviet divisions had moved east into Osa and continued east where they were safe from Nakajima's bombers as they did not have the range to operate in that area.

At 1400 hours General Nishio attacked Naberezhnye Chelny with Armoured support to try and capture the industrial complexes in the province. Victory would be swift with support from Nakajima's bombers arriving soon after the battle began.

    1400 July 2nd 1948.
Central Asia Army Headquarters. Bokovskaya, Soviet Union.
The Middle East had quietened down a little after the failed Allied invasion but enemy bombers stepped up their bombing campaign in the region.

Watanabe's Interceptor wing engaged American Strategic bombers over Eilat in the late afternoon and things did not all go the Japanese commanders way. Losses were not high to either side but the bomber Escorts managed to cause a fair amount of damage to Watanabe's Interceptors during the encounter.

On July 3rd the main strike force of the Central Asia Army arrived in Kashary and continued west attacking a Polish division in Kamensk-Shakhtinski. Only Saboru's Interceptor wing provided support but General Ueda did not require any help on this occasion as he easily overcame the defences.

Further east an attack against a severely depleted Soviet division in Frolovo was also successful as Japanese ground forces advanced north from Stalingrad.

Itabana's bomber group had spent two days destroying the anti-aircraft defences of Port Said and had completed the task which allowed them the freedom to attack the large Transport fleet in the port. Six Transport flotillas were using the port and their loss could help prevent further invasions along the sparsely defended coastline.

    0900 July 3rd 1948.
North China Army Headquarters. Uralsk, Soviet Union.
Hoshinata's advance into Melekess came to an abrupt halt on July 3rd as he encountered a large enemy army that had advanced into the province.

Higashikuni called off the attack and would allow Nakajima some time to reduce the number of enemy divisions in the area before ordering the advance to continue.

    0100 July 4th 1948.
    The Skies Above Omsk.
The area to the north of Semipalatinsk was causing a few problems for Terauchi and the East Asia Army and it was decided to send Obata's Tactical bomber wing to the region to clear the area of enemy forces.

Four divisions had managed to reach Omsk as well as one further south that had already been destroyed by Obata and Sakai who alternated leading the bombers. Japanese troops had managed to advance into Novosibirsk and had not been counter attacked.

    2100 July 4th 1948.
Central Asia Army Headquarters. Boguchar, Soviet Union.
The lack of much resistance in the west allowed Hata to continue to order his forces to advance even though the lead elements were a little ahead of the follow up forces.

General Koiso received orders to advance towards the Energy rich province of Zaporozhye with support from Yokoyama Isa who had captured Melitopol and isolated the Crimea. The battle did not last long and Koiso was soon advancing unhindered.

    1200 July 5th 1948.
    The Skies Above Melekess.
There had not been very many large enemy formations seen for some time but a total of eight Soviet divisions had managed to reach Melekess where they presently stopped any further Japanese advance in the area.

Nakajima would do his best to reduce the number of divisions facing the North China Army. His aircraft had still not managed to be upgraded but were more than adequate for the task at hand given the experience of the pilots.

    1300 July 5th 1948.
Central Asia Army Headquarters. Boguchar, Soviet Union.
Two days of bombing had greatly reduced the number of enemy Transport ships in Port Said as Itabana mercilessly attacked them.

The final flotilla would not survive the day which would leave Itabana to choose another target the following morning.

At 2000 hours his target materialised as a Canadian Infantry division landed in el-Arish. The loss of so many Transport flotillas made it unlikely that further forces could be landed in support but Hata would keep a close eye on the situation as his reinforcements were still making their way south and west. The capture of el-Arish had isolated Kawashima in Suez once again and he would be vunerable to attack if the Canadian division was allowed to recover from it's amphibious assault.

At 0700 hours on July 6th Itabana arrived to target the enemy organisation which was already reduced from the landing. After two hours Hata ordered General Abe to attack and capture the Canadian division which he duly accomplished with Itabana's assistance. Abe would move to retake el-Arish and establish a supply line to Suez.

Hata's Headquarters came under attack at 0800 hours as the Polish division in Rossosh decided to counter attack the advancing commander of the Central Asia Army. Hata withdrew to Bokovskaya while Saboru continued to do whatever damage he could to the Polish division.

The arrival of Ueda and the main Japanese force in Kamensk-Shakhtinski halted the advance of the Polish division as it was forced to retreat from Rossosh by General Okamura's Infantry corps. Shimoyama's Dive bomber group had been moved to Rostov to clear the area of Soviet troops that might slow down the Japanese advance.

    1300 July 6th 1948.
North China Army Headquarters. Uralsk, Soviet Union.
Having halted Hoshinata's advance into Melekess the large Soviet army had moved further east where they would block a second Japanese advance.

Five Soviet divisions had made the advance which left General Nishio's attack on Naberezhnye Chelny in doubt. Rather than risk heavy losses Higashikuni called off this advance as well even though his forces would probably have won as six Armoured divisions were supporting it. Higashikuni was not in such a hurry that he wished to test the Japanese manpower reserves.

It seems you do not garrison your airbase provinces.
Are you not afraid of revolt rising and losing air units?

Afghanistan was partisan free (unless they did change it in later versions of DD)

And if you have too much IC and not enough MP build a few SHBB
EDIT: Or in fact any navy will do.

Remble has next to zero MP and precious little IC. The upgrade costs alone will eat his IC for the next months!

No way. Just focus on air considering they've pretty much won the war for Remble.

Also ... ARGH lvl5 strats!! and @ anyone does the AI upgrade to intercontinetal-strats because that actually might cause some real problems for Remble especially if the US decides to bomb mainland Japan

100 1951 elite German infantry divisions

i hope they have more. it`s gonna be tough. please, don`t deprive us of this fun.

and i believe, not taking the provinces on the border of Poland and Germany is gamey. you can delay the advance into Poland or wait for the other troops to catch up. i think you need a detailed plan to make that happen because the front line is too long and you can not redeploy your far east units in a short time. however, i think you can find a way, you always do

Thankfully the Polish divisions are there to delay your advance in the Ukraine. Otherwise you would have next to nothing to fight until you reach the German border. Thank you, AI, for stupidly moving your forces east.

Regarding a possible world conquest: this AAR can't end until Europe and the US are subdued. The other countries are up for debate (with the possible exception of Brazil).

But for now: On to Moscow!

Very nice, Remble. However, one detail has me confused.

    What is "quietened"?

Calmed down. Lack of noise and action. He misspelled the word.

Good update, surprising that the Soviets managed to gather an army of that size.
