This isn't exactly true, if you are talking about the INTs and STRATs. Level VIII INT is the '45 first turbojet model, and the level IV STRAT is the '45 first turbojet model. They are equal in terms of how advanced they are. Interceptor has bigger number, because it has those two rocket-engine models in between level V normal engine and level VIII turbojet engine, and because STRAT level I is researched on same year as INT level III (INT levels I and II are the "Great War" and "Early" 1936 models).

The only overkill is currently going on in Manchuria, but that's just because it's a result of a string of victories and there's nothing wrong in that.
 
its good to see the USN coming back just as the russians are falling apart :D
i hope those US transports are not heading to columbo for another failed invaison. it would be good to see them start retaking some islands back.

His German AAR has a total of 126 pages, and is still growing (though at a slow rate now) so we are pretty much 50 pages past the last one. And its only mid-1947!!! So lots of time to go and we shall swarm this one into the 200's for sure. :D
In fact, this is the third longest AAR behind only For King and Country by Draco Rexus and Fatherland - Deutschland über alles by Kanitatlan.

So congrats Remble. :)

Hey all,

Nice work Remble, although the Middle East and Northern India are threatening your position overthere. One thing I forgot to ask, what about nuclear weapons? Did the Americans already have something like that..? I saw other AAR's (1944, Germany for example) where after 2-3 years a real nuclear warfare had broken out between USA - Germany -USSR....but you have not encountered it yet....what are your research levels on this?

The Vanilla AI does not build nuclear reactors. No nukes in this game.
 
Despite their impossibility in a Vanilla situation (and Remble's oft-repeated policies) I would see nuclear weapons as a real form of 'deus ex machina' for this A.A.R., especially one where every conquest has had to be strenuously wrested by infantry from the enemy's grasp, despite the prolific but tastefully-utilised air and naval forces. Mind you, this could probably be applied to nuclear usage elsewhere in-game, and real-life, anyway.

Although I have some knowledge of typical A.I. mis-behaviour, it really is shocking to see the the collapsing front-line of the Russians and the parlous state of things once broken. It seems rather unsophisticated and further confused, especially with the many fronts now.
 
Personally, I see nuclear weapons as something nice to have but not too terribly vital.

robou, Manziel - The Interceptors from Manchuria will move to the Middle East which will increase my numbers by two more wings. Five wings should be able to take care of almost anything. It will be some time before they can be used though as they need to gain org in Calcutta for a while.

Harbin should be fine as Manziel pointed out. There are forces around to assist as well as the move time involved to march into the marshes.

Kurt_Steiner - I thought so too :D

Velko - Oh the little war in Manchuria is far from over yet and redeploying too early would just drag it out. My forces will remain at current strength, or close to it, until I reach my desired defensive perimeter. Satoru goes into some explaination as to where that might be in the update.

alan_le_cowboy - The AI has been pretty good with its timing so far.

FlorisDeVijfde - The skies are a lot safer certainly. The bombers target my airfields first which they have not been doing very well at lately. Oil is beginning to flow and is mentioned in the update :)

zdlugasz - Of the Carrier fleets I know about or have seen before this would be the 'spares'. I know they had a fleet with 8 Carriers just after I took Hawaii and I have not seen those ships again since, which means they are probably still together somewhere.

LordSlowpoke, Velko - Velko is correct. My INT's are on a par with the Strats but I nearly always lose an equal battle as the escorts combined with the modern bombers are superior in most cases. Hence I try to mob them two to one.

BobaFett696 - I am normally fairly good at predicting AI behaviour but I am slightly at a loss right now. I have no idea why there has not even been one attempt to retake Hawaii as that should be the obvious target. Attacking Colombo is never going to work and I can't really see why the US AI would even be interested in it as its British territory. Typical AI behaviour I would guess is behind these decisions :)

Panzer6 - Thank you. Third in the HoI forum certainly but fifth overall if I looked in all the right places. Rensslaer's Sforza and canonized's Timelines are also ahead if you count EU3 as well :D

Nathan Madien - Your welcome. Force sizes in India appear about equal which means the Red Army will lose as I have bombers :)

cosminus - Both Submarine battles were over after two hours. Even at night those Carriers murder Submarines in quick time. I will withdraw after four whenever I can.

Timmie0307, safferli - Thanks. safferli is correct, the vanilla AI never nukes so I don't either. AAR's where the AI does nuke are modded to allow it to do so, except for Doomsday scenario where nukes are enabled.

Ruodnane - The AI is undoubtedly very confused. Terauchi and Higashikuni are completely on top of the situation however and will remain so. The Soviets are trying to repair the damage but it leaves other areas weaker as it did when I plugged the gap in Datong.

Imperial Palace. Tokyo, Japan.

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen. We will begin with a report on our puppet Nations this month." Hideki began the monthly meeting.

"Your Majesty, Gentlemen, good morning." Mamoru began. "The recent advances made by our ground forces have aided our Allies a little and I have some up to date information on their current Industrial Capacities and Research."​

"Manchukuo remains our most potent puppet and its Factory output has increased with the liberation of both Xinjing and Harbin. The remainder of Manchuria is of no use for resources of any kind and Manchukuo will regain its full production once the factory complexes in Harbin have been fully repaired. This will also allow it to start a second research project and is the only puppet that will be able to do that.

Mengkukuo is the smallest for the time being but it does have some further potential as we know it will claim Mongolia once that territory is retaken. Ulan Bator, the former capital of Mongolia, will almost double the Industrial Capacity of Mengkukuo. They are researching a newer Infantry model for the time being which will make their troops slightly more useful after the upgrades are complete.

Siam remains the most stable with no changes at all for some time. They have begun to slowly provide more Infantry for us to utilise but they will not gain any more production except by research. We have tried in the past to send them Energy to boost their production but as they are a puppet they merely send it straight back to us. They seem content with what they have and are providing Air cover around Japan as they have been for the last three years.

I continue to monitor their research and dispatch relevant blueprints when required to speed up the process. Manchukuo provided us with the latest Infantry blueprints which we are currently researching.

I have also taken the liberty of starting talks with all three Nations in regards to garrison duties in the future. These talks are at a very early stage as we do not have a clear target area yet and we do not know how easy any such target could be achieved."

"We do have some sort of idea of where we wish to reach in some areas." Tanigawa said. "I can have Minister Satoru cover our plans in that regard if you wish?"

"That would be helpful certainly." replied Mamoru. "Nothing further from me."

"Intelligence next please."

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen. I have had some funding during June and managed to add an agent in the United Kingdom. Our reports are beginning to become slightly more accurate as a result." Kuniaki began.​

"Soviet base Industrial Capacity increased by one but their overall numbers are unchanged. They completed research into Advanced Electronic Computers and will soon have yet another improved tank variant. Their current Armoured forces are still mostly lagging behind in upgrades but the new technology would speed up the process for them.

According to the numbers we reduced their Infantry forces by only nine divisions and their Armour by five. Redeployments could have some bearing as could recent builds. The trend is still very much downwards though and I do expect it to accelerate as their forces are reduced and become easier to target.

The largest change is to their Fighter numbers where they lost over two thirds if the numbers are correct. These were destroyed in Vladivostok. No changes of note to their Naval forces."​

"No change to the British base Factory levels but their shortage in Rare Materials has returned. No research projects were completed in June.

The Armed Forces numbers are still thought to be highly inaccurate but they show a large increase in Infantry with a modest Bomber increase as well. Three Battleships and two Aircraft Carriers have also been added. These numbers are on the high side of our reports but could be right."​

"American Industry is unchanged as normal. They completed three research projects. Modern Mechanised Division, Main Battle Tank and Integrated Offensive Doctrine. The last of these was completed in incredibly fast time and must have had a blueprint, even then it was remarkably fast.

Two Armoured divisions were added with little change to Airforce numbers. They lost three Aircraft Carriers which agrees with our estimates, meaning no new ships of this type were launched in June.

We completed one research project into Basic Electronic Computers. We will complete Carrier Aviation Doctrine tomorrow and should also complete Tactical bomber research this month. Nothing further." concluded Kuniaki.

"Armed Forces next please."

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen." Tanigawa began. "The Pacific has seen some Transport fleet activity by the United States Navy but no landings. We did sink one Carrier Task Force but have been seeing a second more powerful one in and around the Indian Ocean. We have lost contact with it for the moment.

Operation Improbable continues to inflict high casualties to the Red Army in Manchuria and this has resulted in pressure easing along the rest of the front line, particularly in north western China where North China Army had been under attack by large forces. We still think it will require some time to fully reduce the Soviet forces in Manchuria but progress has been good. We have also made some advances in the center where it has slowed down the Soviets march to reinforce the north east.

Red Army troops have started to advance in India and Persia but have only made small gains to date and are being harried by one Tactical Bomber Group. Progress is likely to be slow for them in Persia but could be faster in India if they increase their current numbers which are thought to be not too high. I will hand you over to Minister Satoru to cover our intentions and the current more detailed picture." Tanigawa concluded.

"Thank you Minster Tanigawa. Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen. The Pacific is indeed quiet and I will begin with the Middle East and India today." began Satoru.​

"This larger map shows the current National borders. The Red Army has made one advance in Persia to the north of Teheran but has been slow to make any progress elsewhere due to our bombers. We are conducting a slow withdraw across Persia but shall attempt to push the Soviets back across the Indian border."​

"A larger map of the Middle East shows where the Soviets are currently advancing. Note that both the Red Army and Syrian Army are moving towards Tabriz in the north. I expect the Soviets to win that race as they have a considerable head start. Our defensive forces are all single divisions and most of the opposition is similar in size.

I have annotated the Oil production of Abadan in the middle and you can see that it is actually increasing. This is largely due to the efforts of our Interceptor forces in the area where they have been systematically destroying the Allied Strategic bomber wings. You will also see at the bottom another American bomber wing heading towards Iraq. Our Interceptors are aware of its presence but need some time to rest from last months activities."​

"India shows the Red Army advancing towards Meerut province. Our forces are moving towards Delhi which will form our position of strength from which to counter attack with bomber support. We do not expect the Red Army to advance too far unless it is reinforced."​

"Moving on to Asia. The blue squares indicate our advances during June. They do not look large but are very good considering the terrain involved. We now hold all of the air bases in and around Manchuria which bodes very badly for the Red Army. Our Interceptor forces will be released fairly soon to suppliment the wings already in the Middle East. The redeploying squadrons will take some time to recover from the journey.

In the far north east you will notice that the Soviets have finally got around to reclaiming the area around Kamchatka but it will still take them time to advance.

I have highlighted some specific provinces on the map. Both Okhotsk and Yakutsk must be taken at some point if we wish to ever force the Soviets to surrender and are therefore the point to which we wish to advance. We are not interested in advancing further north into Siberia where there is absolutely nothing worth taking.

Over to the west we have Irkutsk which has an airbase and is vital to our advance, with Tannu Tuva to its south. Both will need to be taken but we can get away with only advancing a short distance north of this area. There are some Energy rich provinces close to this area."​

"On the western flank in China Soviet forces are still moving towards Xining in unknown numbers. The majority of what was their Army in this area is now transitting through Bayan Nur to the north east. Soviet forces are still far too strong in this area to contemplate any sort of agression on our part but we shall monitor the situation."​

"Mengukuo sees our forces attempting to block Soviet movements from the west but the enemy is beginning to increase in strength in this area. We have no plans to move further forwards for the time being and could be forced backwards once the larger Soviet armies arrive from the south west."​

"The Kwantung Army is beginning to increase its pace of advance in Manchuria as it slowly clears the remaining mountain provinces of enemy troops. There are still some strong Soviet armies in the area, particularly in the north. We essentially have a reserve army in Xinjing which is supporting operations to the east but can be moved north to replace Japanese troops in Harbin once Jilin has been captured.

We are trying to cut Jilin off as we speak but we do not know if it will succeed yet. I have added the current industrial output of Harbin to this map and it is repairing at a brisk pace now that most of the infrastructure has been repaired. Our troops are a little tired and we are trying to minimise casualties as much as possible. The enemy is on the run but we have a few months worth of hard fighting still to go before we can safely say that Operation Improbable has been a success or not.

The forces in Chongyin will become free once we capture Jilin and could be used to strengthen Vladivostok or conduct some amphibious assaults to speed things along. I will hand you over to Minister Osami for a naval briefing." concluded Satoru.

"Thank you. Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen." Osami began. "June saw an increase in naval activity with more losses than have been seen for some time. The need to sink an American Carrier Task Force and chase a second away caused some casualties on our part but none of our capital ships were sunk in June."​

"We lost four Submarine Flotillas in the Arabian Sea to the second Carrier fleet the United States Navy sent to the area. We did sink the first Carrier fleet but sustained a large amount of damage to a number of ships all of which are now in Colombo undergoing repairs. We have only two fully operational fleets for the time being and they are BC Division 1 and CA Division 1. I can always move ships around if required but the Imperial Japanese Navy is no match for the Allied Carrier fleets until we get new ships and updated Doctrines.

Several months will be required to repair the damaged ships which should allow some of the new builds to arrive to strengthen our fleets. Once the new Battlecruisers arrive I will dispatch the two Battleships that are currently operating with BC Division 1 to Colombo, where they can reinforce BB Division 1 which is a little light on firepower.

Our Carriers are too outdated to contemplate using them against the modern Allied ships and they are likely to be used on sealane patrols to hunt smaller enemy ships. The CA Divisions will do likewise. Our Naval bombers will have to try and keep the enemy Carrier numbers down as best they can until we get more Tactical bombers which could be used to assist. That is all from me." concluded Osami.​

"Industry please."

"Good morning your Majesty, Gentlemen. Manpower remains my chief concern but the situation has not worsened during June." Ginjiro began.​

"Overall our resources remain pretty stable with none of the staple industrial supplies under threat. We have been seeing some increased losses to our trades but no losses to our actual convoy Transports.

Our Industrial Capacity has increased by one factory complex as some repairs have been made in the Middle East. Transport Capacity is still overstretched but stable given the supply demands being placed upon it.

I am continuing to increase our supplies until the newer Tactical bomber becomes available at which time the surplus production will switch to building the new planes. Upgrades have all been completed to our Interceptor squadrons but we do have to modernise our Dive bombers still.

Reinforcements looks pretty bad but as it is all for ships and some small aircraft repairs it represents only one fifth of our daily Manpower growth. We still require over 4,000 men to replace losses but the situation is under control. I may still have to disband a few things to allow our predicted builds to occur on schedule but we shall have to wait and see. Nothing more from me today." concluded Ginjiro.

"There are signs of the re-awakening of the United States Navy which may prove a little troublesome in the future. The Soviets must be destroyed as a fighting force within the next twelve months or it could be entirely possible that the Allies could being to advance again with good support from their respective Navies. We will need some bombers in the Pacific to assist the Imperial Japanese Navy and they have to come from Asia if the Pacific starts to reverse.

The first cracks are appearing in the Red Army lines as force parity comes ever closer. A good few months of ground warfare could result in the flood gates opening which would allow us to advance across most of the front. Keep the pressure on them Gentlemen." stated Hirohito as he stood and walked out of the meeting.​

That sounds clever. Maybe you can give the whole (worthless) east to your puppets and only claim the area from Irkutsk to the west for Japan. Oh, or... if I am not mistaken (and Mengkukuo has the same territorial claims in the '44 scenario as in the '41) you can give Irkutsk to Mengkukuo so they get 20 base IC and only take the territory west of it for Japan.

Keep up the good work. I love this carrier hunting, so I am looking forward to July :)
 
Why are you delaying the upgrades to your dive bombers? Wouldn't newer versions of CAS help you defeat the Rusians faster?

Try and get Tannu Tuva. It's not a puppet of the USSR, so a very sizeable stockpile should await you there! Actually, you're playing the '44 scenario, so the stockpile won't be as large. But still, 3 year's worth of metal is waiting in that capital!

Question: Are you doing one-step flights from Manchuria to India/Persia? If you take care that the distance between airfields is not larger than the plane's maximum range you can greatly save on the org loss and thus can have your airforce operating much sooner.
It might be difficult for interceptors and CAS since their range is small and original airfields may be too dispersed, but airfields cost 1 IC only so you could build chain of airfields from Manchuria to Iraq.
In my games I build such chains and since you are micromanaging as well, it would not be a problem for you to transfer those planes in 6 or 10 steps instead of one step.

EDIT:
And considering that you may need to move your airforce from Persia to Pacific quickly (when you discover enemy carriers or Allies start to land in Pacific) it may be still worth to place extra airfields so at least TACs can fly without crossing their range limit.
