mikwarleo's SMB is a collection of existing sprites and modified existing sprites.
It is an attempt at a complete, historical, visually appealing and bug free one stop sprite solution for HoI2.

NB. I anticipate this version (v1e) will be my LAST UPDATE. Feel free to amend and improve the package as you see fit.
Tested and working with no known issues with ARMG v1.3 beta and earlier patches.

Compressed 7z package is ~18mb, uncompressed is ~630mb!

Tested and working with Armageddon (no known issues).
Untested and unsupported with other HoI2 versions but others have confirmed it works.
Latest update included minor changes to commonly used special forces infantry sprite, see last post or read me for details.

Latest update resulted from me dusting off HoI2 for a game with italy, made some changes to brigade pictures for italy so there is now a clear progression in pics for ART, AA, SPG, AT brigades.

albso437: Full details of sprites used in readme in package. Screenshots will follow. For now I'm getting some game time (and contining beta testing :)) after much work getting the package together. You could review the bmps in package to get some ideas on what I've used.

just downloaded the mod. it took me several times to finally have a successful download. gonna try it out tonight.

anyhow, i have a question for you in regard with sprites, maybe you can give me a hand. in order for sprites to show up in the game correctly, a proper string name (name tag) and order of string is a must. take infantry for example, that will be T-INFANTRY A-FIRE/WALK C-AUSTRALIA in the bmp (.bmp file) and unit (spr. file) folder. how am i doing so far?

now, my quesion is, can you name anything you want for the HOI 2 spirtes or do you have to use the name tag from the unit_name cvs. in the db folder (ie. INFANTRY, PANZER, TACTICAL, HQ ... ect, all in capital letters).

also, how many sprites does HOI 2 support? it seems i'm not getting gebirgs, fallschirms, HQ sprites for the land unit, interceptor, escort figher, divebomber (CAS), tactical bomber, and strategic bomber sprites. (i haven't really test the sea units yet).

why am i not getting any while others are getting theirs. I WANT SOME ACTIONS AND I DEMAND IT :D well, here my rant and thank you being patient with me

Hi, feel free to ask questions: you're right about file structure and the read me in my package has a two page guide on this. I'm not really understanding your question but there is a definate convention on file names but not case sensitive. As far as I know you cannot assign different sprites for strat bomber or transports (I tried). I do however have separate sprites for CAS and TAC (tac unfortunately is the same sprite for strat, tran, tac and nav - this is part of HoI2 and unchangeable as far as I'm aware). Likewise for fighters/interceptors. Hope that helps.

There will probably be some more refinements to sprites over time there are some I'm not entirely happy with for various reasons. Latest beta 1.0b fixes some minor issues, change log in package.

Also please elaborate if you're having troubles with download site and I'll look into it.

that was fast, i believed you just solved most of my puzzle. so you are saying only CAS, Tac, and fighter sprites exist in the game but no stra, trans, naval bomber interceptor and escort fighter.

what about land units? i'm just checking the unzipping-files (still unzipping) while i'm writing this, i think it's safe to say there is a place for gebirgs. i downloaded the gebirgs sprite from Puma (he's a cool guy by the way, you can find him in DMP and Stony Road forum), and changed his naming-string from T-GEBIRGSJAEGER C-GER A-FIRE/A-WALK to T-GEBIRGSJAEGER A-FIRE/A-WALK C-GER. ( L-1 is optional, right? i noticed that is the standard practice for HOI 2 DD sprites) and they are still shown as the regular infantry :confused:

i'm currently playing original HOI 2 without any mod, only some changes/update on the sprites in the GFX file

about the download site, it just kept showing me error message and asked me to come back and try again. i kept going until it yielded :p i also had similar problems when i try to download something else from that site. maybe it's just me, who knows?

I have downloaded and installed both compendiums, and i can say that they're a great collection which will greatly enhance the graphics of HOI 2. Rather than having to search for loads of individual files, this mod provides all the best graphical modifications released in a single package - worth the download in my opinion.

Sorry for not posting any screenshots, but as i said the graphical mods included are amongst the best released for HOI 2.
 
Edit: unfortunately imageshack deleted the screen shots and I don't have a copy anywhere... :/

If anyone feels up to it and uses the compendiums please post screens and I'll edit into this post.
