Finally, after quite a while i have pretty much finished this last part of my game as Communist China.

This part, as sequel to my previous AAR that you can find in my signature is about Communist China taking its full glory as one of the World Powers and taking on the Japanese, the fascists who have been causing great trouble for the Allies in the Pacific.

(long)PRELUDE: Downfall

After the wrap up of the Nationalist army between September and October 1944 some Nationalist officers that where hiding out with a number of soldiers at the coasts where able to come together and rally a lot of local villagers to their cause. Even though the Nationalist army was defeated and their government mostly arrested or executed, the soldiers of the ROC had quite an impact on these simple farmers, who where seeing this big red glow of communism arriving and let them imagine to choose between communism or fascists. In the Southern regions the Chinese had been unable to continue their normal lives anyway, their fight against hunger as ROC soldiers took all the food, their fight against drought as most irrigation was destroyed by Japanese bombing squadrons plus their total hatred towards Mao for leaving the ROC alone to fight the Japanese made them easy bait for the ROC soldiers. In just 1 month time they where able to form a last huge army of villagers with guns that headed South-West towards Vietnam, their final stand. About 1,6 million men and women, armed with rifles of dead soldiers, pitchforks, tools and even rocks.

1944remainingchineseforcesandshowof.jpg

The last large Nationalist resistance pocket was at the end of September located in the 3 border point between British Burma, Japanese Vietnam and China. The Japanese had an enormous amount of troops located at the border, as did the British. But because the Japanese couldn't advance without the British taking advantage the place had been in status quo since 1939(thats 5 years). But now the Nationalist army was collapsing and Communist forces where closing in from the North and bordering themselves with their future nemesis at around November 1944, the tides could be turned in favor of either 4 parties. If the ROC militia could get in contact with the British, they might get food and supplies to hold out even longer, wear out the Japanese. As soon as the Communists arrived things where starting to get into perspective however, the Communist army was compared to the other 3(especially the other Chinese) much more advanced, fresh, professional. They where outnumbered by each almost 3:1 but because they had advanced tanks, loads of supplies and awesome artillery they could stand their ground and they where feared. The ROC could only stand a chance with their numbers, the British had their neutrality while the Japaese had huge army all across the Pacific they could rerout to assist them, as well as a great deal of planes from aircraft carriers. Even for the total Communist army in combination with the 1 million Japanese troops the ROC militia pocket was too strong, they had to find a way to break them once and for all. They wouldn't get any communication with the Japanese, they would rather die then ask for their assistance. The British where also useless, they couldn't go at war with the ROC as that would weaken their relations with the USA, who had given the ROC much needed supplies in the past(now used by the PLA, oh the irony). There where still some troops in Korea, they could be rerouted too Vietnam. But by foot it would take months. Mao needed ships.

China's industry had been fully running again since October, mostly creating ammunition. They could rerout a lot of raw materials too shipwarfs to start building transport easily, so they did. They where ready at January 15th 1945 and located at Qingdao where about 160,000 brand new soldiers with armoured cars stood ready to be transported to the frontline. The troops in Northern Korea where next, the forces in the South swelled and it seemed no that their firepower had now risen to acceptable levels.

All this delay caused the Nationalist forces to break out a bit, but they where still containable. The largest priority was to make sure no Chinese lands came in Japanese or British hands, so when the Nationalists army was spreading out they had to beat them back quickly so the Japanese wouldn't try something.

On the other hand, once the Nationalist “hordes” broke up a bit they could be killed by the dozens, making it easier and easier to close in on them. Eventually, the added troops along with the highly experienced forces that had been fighting for so long since the first attacks on the ROC, made their first big attack on a huge number of ROC forces. Of course the Japanese started their attacks at exactly the same time. This caused the militia to finally break up. The battles where enormous, monstrous actually. Loads of times Japanese planes and troops joined in the combat, lots of people died on the ROC side and entire cities where left in ruin. By around March(2 months of brutal fighting, trench warfare was nothing compared to this) a frightining 800,000 Chinese lay dead. Now it was only a matter of racing towards towns, rivers and hills before the Japanese did, laughing at them each time they arrived and saw Communist forces already sitting there.

They succeeded in shutting the Japanese completely out of Chinese lands, and on April 3rd 1945 Chiang Kai-Shek and the last important ROC officers where executed by Communist forces and the final Nationalist forces surrendered. China was now fully under Mao's control.

So, time for the first update:

---------------------------------

Part 1: The road to war.

Now the civil war was over and there was peace once more Mao could really focus on the Japanese and the Chinese industry could be totally flipped around for preparation of the true war. The Japanese had no idea what was about to hit them.

Top priorities: 1. Get intel on japanese strength. 2. Make new relations with Communist countries and ally with them. 3. Rebuild Airforce. 4. Build strong navy. 5. Don't allow the allies to take all the glory.

Eventualy goal: total defeat of the Japanese armed, naval and aireal forces and the execution of Emperor Hirohito and Prime minister Tojo Hideki.

New bombers where ordered to be build immediately

One of these top Pritorities was realized July 28th 1945 when Brazil agreed in joining forces against the Japanese as a new Comintern.

But, one of the top priorities also failed when the Americans launched an invasion of Korea and took it over completely at the end of September. The Americans already had Taiwan under their control for a long time.... Its important China will get at least a few islands occupied, important for their presence in the Pacific, important for the spread of Communism, important to be a part of the defeat of the Japanese.

1945SeptemberKoreainvaded.jpg

The Americans where starting to loosen up to Mao though, they knew Mao had a lot of industry and resources that could help them defeat their strong enemy. The Americans allowed a lot of trade, protected Chinese interests a bit(while keeping China neutral untill they are ready) and even exchanged tactics.

China's Transport ships where lent out to the Americans a short time to help evacuation of Koreans and wounded soldiers from Korea. Still Japan considderd China neutral, but tensions where rising. Won't be long untill the Japanese had found a way to obstruct the Chinese, either politically(propaganda, worsening relations with the Allies), logistically(delaying shipping, patrolling) or tactically(sabotage and espionage). The Japanese knew China was building up its army again, but was way to occupied with the Allies to declare war.

Newly build tactical bombers and fighter escorts that where finished in September where ordered South to the Island of Hainan, awaiting orders to attack Japanese Vietnam. Another top priority completed. Building a navy up could be tricky though, Japanese navy rules the water all along the Chinese coast, they could easily destroy any warships being constructed if they felt threathened. The matter of fact was that no new ships, not even transports would be ready before the DoW has had to have happened.
----------------------------------

So, seems like another prelude, but this is preparation. Totally neccesary of course to defeat such a strong enemy. Next update the war starts.

Steady updates every week, either on Saturday or Sunday.

Are you playing with CCIP? I recommend it for China games.

Sequel? Excelent.

This is China, after all - two millions of level two bombers and all enemies will beg them to stop.

Good luck, by the way :).

No CCIP. Just vanilla.

thanks for all the good lucks. i've change my mind and will post an update tomorrow or the day after instead of Sunday.

New bombers ? It's first time I have seen someone building lvl2 bombers in 1945 good luck.

Well, not really advanced but definitly usefull.

Thats an excelent made stalemate by the British
Now it's time for the communists to drive Japan our of Vietnam :D

Btw, how did you got peace with the Yellow Warmachine after annexing Manchuria  ?

They had send all their forces towards vietnam by that time. So i was able to penetrate all the way into Korea. i think i got a good deal out of it, after i annexed Manchuria i could have taken Korea, but i made a deal with Japan, giving me all their land in China itself(the region between former shanxi and manchuria) while i give them Korea back. i didn't have a navy at the time so i couldn't possibly go further. i had to make peace.

Of course now the past haunts me.

Anyway, update is now!:

Part 2: over a million japanese.

Next up a large number of naval bombers where build. They would be targetting Japanese warships. They will be ready around march 10 1946. This was also a date after the maximum time before they declare war, but they have to be build.
In the mean time tactics where still being developed. How to strike best against the Japanese?
First, a large scale attack on Vietnam with as much troops as possible. Next to that, the island Jeju off the Korean coast has to be occupied and an Airfield has to be build there. The naval bombers should keep the Japanese navy occupied, with an airfield at Jeju they could bomb Tokyo's port. The Americans are doing most of the naval battles however, as China doesn't have a navy itself. It will probably be that Chinese naval bombers will be working closely with the Americans. After Jeju is taken, a larger, much more important island will be targeted. Okinawa. This would require a lot more troops and warships though, so that might take a while after that. Planning continued all the way into October. It was the only thing to do now. Research, reasearch, research.

1945technologyqueueforpreparationof.jpg

Research importance continued untill end December. Mao called together his ministers, they where gonna pick a real date for the DoW. The american had already choosen a date for the commies to go with, but Mao wanted to consult his ministers for the very first time for a possible date. All his ministers however had a different idea then Mao had, untill 1 said the exact same date he had in mind. That date was picked and finally they could show the world what they where made of.

So, 2 weeks later, all planes where feuled up, commanders, officers and soldiers alik given a big feast the day before, the Americans and British informed and then finally on January 8th 1947 Japan received a letter in a box along with late General Yoshijiro Umezu's head. China and Brazil had declared war on Japan.

1946January8thchinadelcareswaronJap.jpg

Japan, of course was prepared for this. They send out propaganda that the Chinese will rot, and a lot more of that nonsense. Though, their failure to invade China before caused them to have little support from the civilians as before. In fact, the occupied regions in Indonesia and the Phillipines where now even more harder to contain. Of course the Germans, Greek, Yugoslavians, Italians and all their allies declared war on the new Comintern as well. The Germans where not going to be a problem yet, they where still moving their army through the former Soviet Union, winning on all sides but Stalin didn't give up, even though most of his industry had already been taken away and ¾ of his army was gone. Its hard to imagine the Germans completely taking Russia and thus be bordering China. Peace talks will probably get the SU a lot of land back, keeping the Germans away from China.

First full scale attacks on Vietnam where started. Chinese bombers strategically downed the reserve troops further South while the main attack by many highly skilled generals like Deng Xiaoping and Zhu De attacked with full force on the prepared Japanese forces.

1946January8thattacksonVietnam.jpg

They attacked the large port city of Haiphong first, they outnumbered the Japanese 2:1 and after some ferocious fighting the Japanese retreated. Next was the even larger city Luang Prabang, well into Vietnam. There wheren't many enemy soldiers here compared to Haiphong, the Communist army quickly took it over. Strange though, Laung Prabang is a huge city, definitely important.

The manuever commenced so quickly that the largest part of the huge Japanese army(almost 75%) was now pocketed in an instance in the Chan States. 52 divisions(about 1 million men) where cut from supplies and surrounded by British and PLA forces.

1946January8th1millionjapanese.jpg

Meanwhile in the North an attempt by the PLA to take the last small part of Korea failed immensely and the USA took the last land there, the PLA korean army was rerouted to the South after 2 months.

During February and March the PLA was kinda in the same position as the British and Japanese where before. Because the large pocket of over 1 million men the PLA couldn't do anything, they couldn't advance as the Japanese army might break out, they couldn't bomb it as it was too far away and the British wheren't really helping. Multiple attacks on the Japanese pocket all failed, attempts where made all the way into March, when the Naval bombers where finished.

Part 3: battle of Okinawa

The bombers where deployed to Hainan island and set to target Saigon naval base as they knew there where Japanese ships there. How many they didn't know.

On April 3rd they made another attempt of crushing the 1 million Japanese soldiers and finally the enemy was weak enough to surrender.

1946April3rd1millionjapanesedfeated.jpg

The army broke apart when a number of Japanese officers demanded a mass seppuku(ritual suicide) but the soldiers didn't really all agree on that and killed the officers, then they disperced. Now the Chinese role in the defeat of the Japanese can't be denied by any country in the world, surely they will get a big prize out of helping. Now that the PLA was so victorious in the South and Japanese power had shrunk severely Mao now felt it was time to rush things, beat the Allies to enemy territory. He ordered the transport ships to pick up an army in the North and start amphibious landing at the Island of Okinawa.

Okinawa was a target on the American hitlist as well though. As soon as the word of the Chinese ships making way too Okinawa was made clear the Americans send out a force there as well, 2 full fleets of 10 Aircraft Carriers, joined by cruisers, destroyers and transport ships filled with troops.
The biggest and most important battle of the Pacific war had started.

The Chinese fleet(transports alone) arrived at Okinawa first. Once they knew there where no enemy ships in the vicinity they quickly made their presence clear by first landing on a smaller island where they could set up base. Once they where settled the transports headed for Okinawa itself. They started landings on the Southern beachhead of the main island after taking some skirmishes along the way with some submarines and small coastal defenses on the smaller islands. They arrived on the main island and where waited for there, Okinawa's coastal defences opened fire on the transports when they released their amphibious landing crafts. The very first landed troops of about 500 men had no trouble in taking out the few weak machinegun emplacements. After securing the beach and blowing up the coastal defences they moved inland and there engaged in battle with the majority of Japanese troops. In this time the rest of their army could be landed on the beach as well, though progress was slow as the beach was small. The transport ships could be taken closer to the beach itself though once the coastal batteries where destroyed. Once the first transport ship had unloaded its amphibious crafts after the first few hours it was ordered to head home immediately, making way for the next transport to start unloading. But, disaster struck when a Japanese Carrier fleet with their 3 top carriers under command of Isoroku Yamamoto arrived there. Luckily they had been expecting this, the entire PLAF (90 Naval bombers plus escorts) was already underway. They would be arriving a bit too late though, but no way they couldn't make a difference. The Carriers arrived North-East of the main island, laying themselves strategically as they knew the Americans might be coming soon as well and they had to protect their carriers now. The ships that escorted the carriers spread out over the northern waters of Okinawa, making sure no attempts of landing where made there. The Carriers launched their planes, though the Chinese troops landing didn't know when they would arrive or where.

A spot of luck came when the overwhelming American taskforce finally arrived. They launched their planes towards the South of the main island and send their transports towards the North side, in the mean time the American cruisers and destroyers where beating Japanese cruisers and destroyers away from the North so they would have space for landings.
-----------------------

battle continues in next update.

Update:

---------------------
Part 3B: battle of Okinawa

The American fleet counted 10 Carriers(among them class VII carriers like the USS Interprid, the USS Bunker Hill, the USS Franklin, the USS Independence as well as class VI and V carriers), while the top 3 of the total 6 class III and IV Japanese Carriers where present as well, the IJN Junyo(class III), IJN Hiryu(class III) and IJN Shokaku(class IV). The Japanese carrier planes arrived at Okinawa before the American planes did. They bombed heavily on Chinese forces and where able to cripple their attempt to advance into the island further. They where able to sink 1 empty transport ship before the American planes arrived. A huge aireal fight commenced, which the Americans won after a few hours because they could kill most planes with rockets before they even got close. The remaining Japanese planes retreated. But, the Japanese had more planes on the Carriers, so called kamikaze planes which where launched next. When the last remaining normal planes landed back on their decks the Japanese carriers took off, leaving Okinawa for good. Knowing that it was lost. The Americans made a succesfull landing on the other side of Okinawa and made significantly more progress then the PLA. The PLA didn't have all their troops out off the transport when the Japanese kamikaze planes arrived. Only a couple kamikaze planes diverted to attack the PLN, the rest flew on towards the Americans. The 7 kamikaze planes pounded themselves into the Chinese ships and sunk 2 more transports. This time the transports where filled with Chinese soldiers and the PLA had to retreat off the island as a result. The rest of the Japanese Kamikaze planes arrived at the American fleet, they where able to sink several ships, damage 3 Carriers and kill over 9000 people, but their attempt to repel the americans had failed and the US army took control of Okinawa.

Now the American fleet was heading away from Okinawa as well, they had lost track of the Japanese carriers.

But the good news was, the Chinese Naval bomber hadn't and they caught up with them after a few hours. Next thing that happened was incredible. Appearently because of the most important battle of Okinawa, not only did the original 3 carriers from the Okinawa battle made an appearance near home waters but the Japanese bombers found the other 3 japanese carriers, along with 2 more light carriers and not to mention the Battleship IJN Fuso at the exact same spot together.

Chinese commanders found out that the Japanese had intercepted Chinese transmissions during the battle of Okinawa. That way they found out that the Chinese transport ships that survived Okinawa where taking this route to get home and so they send their fleet there to intercept. Luckily the airforce works with much better encryption devices so the route and location of the bombers was never revealed to the Japanese. Because they thought there where no Chinese planes in the vicinity they only used the carriers as back up and let the cruisers and Fuso take point in taking out the transport ships(with some light escorts) as they intended to shell the Chinese ships rather then attack them by air. They spotted the Chinese transports well before the Bombers showed up as well, sealing their fate. As their target was plain in sight and nothing on radar they wouldn't try to stay far back and in the wind for the carriers to launch their planes succesfully. When they finally spotted the 8 Chinese Ilyushin II-4 naval bomber squadrons with escorts it was already too late. The Battleship Fuso was first as it was attacking the Transports. It was hit hard by 6 bombs from fowarding fighter planes and lost with all hands.

The sky was clear, no clouds and with a heavy wind from the North the bombers where in the advantage owards the fleet odwn below. When the battle down below commenced with the Chinese transport ships being shelled, 30 planes from above all dropped their payload at once. The carriers had to turn towards the South to launch the planes which took long enough for the bombers to take out the 2 class IV fleet carriers IJN Shokaku and IJN Amagi and the 2 light carriers IJN Chitoso and IJN Kaga who didn't stand a chance. The bombs where specially made to be able to withstand at least some impact, making sure they would first penetrate the deck of the ships before exploding right next to the planes within. All 4 carriers burst apart and sunk quite quickly. The rest of the carriers where gaining speed however and where able stay ahead of the bombers long enough to turn. Now the escort fighters where tested as Japanese planes where finally launched. But there where a lot more chinese planes then there where Japanese. Even though the Japanese zero's where much more advanced, too many where taken down. A lot of naval bombers where taken down as well, but not nearly enough to safe the Japanese fleet.

The IJN Hiryu, the IJN Junyo, The IJN Soryu and the light carrier IJN Zuiho where all sunk along with 3 heavy cruiser, 3 light cruiser and a battlecruiser. 5 of the 8 Chinese transports survived as well, when the beaten Japanese retreated.

Basically, the entire Japanese navy lay on the bottom of the sea, this day will be remembered.
