Return Of The Conquistadors: A History Of Modern Spain

I officially announce Return Of The Conquistadors, my second AAR. This will contain narrative story-telling and history book styles throughout. Updates may come tomorrow or maybe today. This AAR will not die, even if the save game corrupts. That said, the AAR may be "sped up" or ended at a high note of the campaign with a short epilogue. So it will be similar to The Greek Empire, except with screenshots and occasional narrative updates.
Like most of my AARs this will be an alternate history AAR that slightly changes events that can either benefit or hurt the nation I play as, in this case benefit. Please enjoy my new AAR. So note the fact that this prologue changes things around, notably WW1. Also, my knowledge of Spanish names is limited so dont get offended if i use stereotypical names like Juan, Jose, Maria, etc often. So without further waiting, here is....

Your Greek AAR was one of the best one`s ever actually, thought not one of the biggest, but you knew the right time to cut it off, unlike some wich have over +60 pages at forum mostly composed of fans demanding new uptade.

Return of the Conquistadors: A History of Modern Spain

    Prologue: 1898-1936

    The Spanish-American War: 1898

Just after the stabilization of the Iberian Peninsula after years of wars against Carlists, Napoleon, and revolutions, Spain became a modern country. But this slow rise was stopped on February 15th, 1898, when the USS Maine sunk in Havana Harbor. The Spanish-American War ensued and became known as the Disaster of 1898. Spain lost all her remaining American island colonies and the Philippines. The War once again destroyed the Spanish people’s confidence and brought shame to the nation. However the war did much good for the economy, because many rich colonists returned and came to Spain to boost the economy. While the nation as a whole was unstable, at least the economy was.

    The Rough Riders

    World War One: 1914-1918

Some say that war is a great unifier and divider, and indeed it is. When World War One broke out, the political and social factions of Spain were quelled and Spain prepared for war. They joined the war on the Allied side in 1916 and send about 100,000 troops to the Italian and Western fronts, helping secure small victories. However small Spain’s role in the subsequent Allied victory was, the entry into the War played a big role in Spain. It essentially unified the country into one cause, to defeat the Central Powers. The Spanish propaganda was ingenious and portrayed the Central Powers as murderous beast bent on killing all Spaniards. This aroused the population and gave them something to fight for. It effectively eliminated the divisions.

    Spaniards on the Italian Front

The Aftermath and the Great Depression

After the war, the returning soldiers were cast into roles as secret police for the nation. They effectively wiped out opposition to the monarchy in a secret and brutal campaign that only came to light in modern times. It answers the questions of why the deep divides of Spanish society suddenly disappeared in the 20’s. During the 20’s though, aside from the brutal wiping out of communists and other opposition, economic growth was great. King Juan III took power during the Great Depression. He united the country further with great nationalistic speeches. At first, he wanted to call on the Spanish people to reclaim the old Spanish Empire. But advisors warned it was much too early to reclaim an empire lost about 40 years ago, as Spain was still healing her wounds. So Juan decided to give a fiery speech on New Year’s Day 1936 in Madrid that was intended to revive an empire lost long ago, the empire of the Spanish Hapsburgs. This was great cries of happiness from the people and the mobilization began. Europe was going to be lit on fire as the Spanish people would once again rise.

    The government of Spain

The claims of King Juan III

    The current state of Spain.

Well, this is an interesting premise. Spanish participation preempts the instability of the period and prevents the overthrow of the monarchy, thus leading to no Civil War.

Reviving the old Hapsburg Empire--well, those claims are certainly rather ambitious Do these plans extend to the New World as well, or are Juan's schemes strictly for a European restoration only?

If there was no 2nd Spanish Republic, is a bit of non-sense having "Republican Spain" as name and that flag, anyways, i'll follow this AAR with attention

Herbert West: i'm not sure what you said exactly, but i'll answer anyway, no theres no connection between these 2 AARs

Specialist290: the claims are just European, apparently Juan knows a lot about the future

DarkReborn: i'm annoyed by the same thing, about the flag and name, but i'm no expert modder, i can pretty much only add provinces, so i cant do anything about the name or flag

Return of the Conquistadors: A History of Modern Spain

    Antonio’s Journey

    Chapter One: The Exam

The new educational reforms were enacted just at the wrong time. Antonio, as a senior in high school, was in the first grade to take the tests as guinea pigs. He was very worried about the tests. He had been a good student in school, but he suffered from massive test anxiety. And these tests would decide his future like no other test.

“It must be easy for girls,” Antonio said to his friend Juan. “No matter how they do in school, they’ll still end up as stay-at-home mothers. Us men really have to work, if we don’t pass this test, we’ll be sent to the military.”

“Exactly,” said Juan. “These days, who knows who King Juan III, will make enemies with. Rumors say Portugal going to be the first target of his belligerent ways.”
    __________________________________________________ __________

The day of the National Exams came after school had ended. The finals week was over and Antonio now studied like crazy to pass the tests. He studied all subjects, math, science, history, everything. But his anxiety kicked in and he started to panic two nights before the test. This test would decide whether or not he’ll be forced into the army, or lead a normal life. It was crucial. He went to his buddy Juan’s house down the street and they devised an ingenious plan that would guarantee them a passing grade. They would take key pages of information out of textbooks and outlines and glue them underneath their planned desks at school.
And so they did this in the middle of the night. They told their parents they were going to study, but instead they broke into the school with glue and papers. The next day, after some sleep, they came to school in the morning for the tests. As they took their assigned seats with confidence in their cheat-sheets they smiled at each other. But fate would have it otherwise. Just as the doors were being closed and the test was to begin, a group of 20 students from another school in a nearby town walked in. The principal announced that there school recently had some serious water damage and that they were forced to take the test here. He ordered everyone to move back one seat to make space for the new students. Sweat dripped down Antonio’s face as he looked at the shocked expression of Juan. Everyone else was freely moving back while, Antonio and Juan were frozen.

“Is something wrong?” a teacher asked. No answer came. “IS SOMETHING WRONG?!” she screamed louder. Furious she walked over and gave Antonio a smack across the face(hey its 1936 ). This easily woke him up from his trance.

“Oh, I’m so sorry, I was daydreaming” Antonio responded, obviously lying, as giggles came from the other students.

“Move back one seat, please” said the teacher.

“No, it’s alright, I really only feel comfortable here” said Antonio.

“It doesn’t matter, move back!” said the teacher, raising her voice. Meanwhile Juan was still stunned in his original seat.

    “I cant!” shouted Antonio.

“O yes you can!” said the teacher, and she called over Mr.Iglesias, a very large man. Mr. Iglesias picked Antonio up from the ground and slammed him in his new seat.

“No I need that desk” Antonio shouted in his panic attack. “PLEASE!” And as he ran towards his old desk, he tripped, fell on the desk, and it turned over, revealing his massive compilation of cheat sheets!
