Who's picking a fight?? I just said i thought he should have a high skill level due to his exploits and talent! Then he comes in and starts bashing the General, all i did was defend him and explain why.

Oh, and just because he isn't wildly supporting America, doesn't mean hes spouting anti-American rhetoric.[/

    Rommel a pantsy?
Put context to it please..I said compared to the other generals, Rommel fell in love with his own legend- he was arrogant and downright cruel to his men at times, he had his brilliant moments- but nothing compared to other generals.

And I can't see what that point had to do with the fact that the US hasn't been in a major conflict since Korea.

We are the main body of NATO though, the other members contributed and the British had some superb armor- but after WW2 Europe was devastated and i believe if America and its untouched industry wasn't there the Soviets would have kept right on rolling through.

I don't believe the European countries had the ability to spend much more on defense, they just didn't have the industrial base or the numbers needed to stop the Soviets, and their nuclear arsenal was limited to a handful that could be destroyed in a first strike.

If it was conflict i would agree, but he used the word "threat"- the Soviets where a big threat and it was a long 'war' of intermediation to prevent them from making it go hot.

The early cold war has little relevance to this mod, which is about the post CW era. I would suggest that a discussion about Soviet/American/European strenght would be carried out at the history-forum, or at the elsewhere if it is CW game suggestions.

Jade, can you stop arguing about which countries are better and give some other types of suggestions please? At this rate we are going to lose the ears of the modders and that's the last thing that I want to happen anyway. They said that Patraeus was going to be in the game that's fine with me, as long as they have a decent amount of actual generals in the mod I can care less about their skill. I don't care if he has a skill of 2, if it's that big of a problem you can mod the file to give him a higher skill at start, or to be realistic, give him a historical date at which you think his skill will be at so it will get there faster. The way that KillerRabbit explained it made a lot of sense, HOI is made for conventional warfare and we just aren't in that kind of war so we have no idea what their skill woud be as they have not been tested in that military field, and that's just one way to explain it, and it's a respectable answer so it should just end right there.
On another note, I'd like to be of some help to the mod in terms of events once I get my handle on them. So far I'm able to get some single events working and I'm going to work up to chains over the weekend. I think that I can come up with some ideas to throw in to some storylines such as the Iraq "War," and a few other things possibly RF related as I have a few family members on my father's side that used to live in Volgagrad, so they might be able to give me some extra information that can be put into event form. It's just a proposition anyway, it's not like I'll be broken-hearted if you say no , I'm not very experienced so maybe I can just post some ideas from time to time.
Anyway, good luck on your mod, see you tomorrow.

You seem to forget that western russia and eastern europe were devastated as well through the failed german invasion (and I am not going to talk about it any more as it has nothind to do with the mod).

Also I don't know if I mentioned it but perhaps they could be a war between Guatemala and Belize, western intervention into Sudan, a fallout of relations between Russia and Britain over that assassinated spy as well as Turkey invading northern Iraq because of the Kurds. Also could you make something out of what is happening in Italy.

I found some very interesting facts that can prove useful in an African storyline, as I thought I heard some talking about how a storyline for Africa needed to be pursued.

    http://www.isn.ethz.ch/news/sw/details.cfm?id=18326

Tell me if you want events for this...here is a couple quotes from the update.

"By Dulue Mbachu in Lagos, Nigeria for ISN Security Watch (07/11/07)...No lives were lost and the plane returned safely to base, but the incident was a pointer to the unfolding violence in the Sahara Desert and its potential to become, like Iraq and Afghanistan, another theater of war between the US and Islamic forces...Those may well be the first shots fired in what may be unfolding as Africa's own desert war involving the US," Alex Wilson, a London-based West Africa specialist and political risk analyst, told ISN Security Watch."

I think that this information can prove useful in an event chain for Africa, tell me what you think, I especially like this site where I got the information from as it gives a lot of information compared to your daily news brodcast .

Currently the priorities for Africa are Sudan and the ongoing war in Somalia, but everything is welcome.

    Hi,

I just downloaded Modern Day Scenario following the steps and when I go to play the game, it says that the country, Australia, Vietnam, China has lost the scenario straight away with European Union victory. Is there a patch that can fix this or not?

    Cheers

    Scott

I find it strange that you would get so riled up if they meant nothing to you- The fact that your so aggressive is proof that the contrary is correct.

Then do it, i have nothing to be ashamed of- and being as Peterus would be represented as a US general has everything to do with HOI.

Jade, can you stop arguing about which countries are better and give some other types of suggestions please?

When did i ever say that? I was talking about General Peterus and how his skill should be high due to his talents and exploits on the field of battle- including setting world records in combat.

I don't care if he has a skill of 2, if it's that big of a problem you can mod the file to give him a higher skill at start, or to be realistic, give him a historical date at which you think his skill will be at so it will get there faster.
But they are striving for historical accuracy, I might be able to setting for a 3 or 4 at the most for him- but his skill was already in place before he took command

The way that KillerRabbit explained it made a lot of sense, HOI is made for conventional warfare and we just aren't in that kind of war so we have no idea what their skill woud be as they have not been tested in that military field, and that's just one way to explain it, and it's a respectable answer so it should just end right there.
Your forgetting that he had been very actively involved in conventional warfare- he is a veteran of several campings including the largest deployment of troops and armor since the 2nd world war, and he was even selected to command CENTCOM. I don't think you would select someone unskilled to command the entire middle Eastern-Eastern African fronts- especially if he would be the main commander of a attack on Iran.

My point being is what if we placed someone like Markian in command instead of Ike? You put your best most experienced general in command- not some unexperienced person. Peterus is our most experienced general and our most talented, he proved his skill in his campings and i think that more than justifies a high skill for him.

Jade, at least spell his name right please , it's Patraeus, not Peterus. I'm just saying that it doesn't need a huge debate that extends several pages. You told them about the general, now it's their turn to decide how he should be represented through personal research.

The date shows 2003. But I discovered that the patch does not work. It comes up with CRC check failed. Patching not done. What do you suggest?

urmmmmm i think you can get another ntl patch from somewhere else, other mods have different ones. the one i succesfully used is TNW_NTL_patch, but i cant remember where that was from. i think others on here can help more than me. though if the date is 2003 that sounds different to the normal problem when the patch hasnt worked. ill have to appeal for help from others on here...
