    Any chance of changing the name of Byzantine Empire to Imperium Romanum, Imperium Romanorum???

    If not,could you tell me how to do it myself?

    BTW Alexios Komnenos in the game is born in 1056 while I found that he was born in 1048,making him old enough to rule?

    Open World_Names.csv and change the entry for 'BYZA' from 'Byzantium' to 'Rome' (or whatever).

    @Alexios Komnenos: I'll ask Aylo1. Wiki agrees with 1048.

    I found something weird in the 1337 scenario which I don't know is DVIP or Vanilla, but the duke of Calabria also has the title "King of Achaea" but as a secondary title, and in gameplay it changes into duke of Achaea (I'm not sure if I even spelled that right :P )

    This is odd. I'll take a look into it -- looks like a remnant of an older version!
    The tag for the recreatable Achaea is PELO, but in 1204 there is ACHA, and in 1337 both exist.

    //Edit: I'll remove the second Achaea from the game. This should never have been included...

    1066_scenario_relations

    An idea that

    Vladimir Monomakh, Count of Rostov, grandson of Yaroslav the Wise
    Code:
    character = {
    	id = { type = 10 id = 666 }
    	name = "Vladimir 'Monomakh'"
    	gender = male
    	dynasty = { type = 12 id = 705 }
    	father = { type = 10 id = 630 }
    	mother = { type = 10 id = 1727 }
    	country = C574
    	religion = orthodox
    	culture = Russian
    	score = { gold = 125 prestige = 100 piety = 100 }
    	birthdate = { year = 1053 month = january day = 1 }
    	dna = "94559712182969"
    	attributes = {
    		martial = 7
    		diplomacy = 9
    		intrigue = 6
    		stewardship = 9
    		health = 8
    		fertility = 6
    	}
    	traits = {
    		wise = yes
    		just = yes
    		court_education = yes
    	}
    }
    and

    Gytha Godwinson, daughter of Harold Godwinson
    Code:
    character = {
    	id = { type = 10 id = 127 }
    	name = "Gytha"
    	gender = female
    	dynasty = { type = 12 id = 755 }
    	father = { type = 10 id = 122 }
    	mother = { type = 10 id = 123 }
    	country = DENM
    	religion = catholic
    	culture = Saxon
    	birthdate = { year = 1054 month = january day = 1 }
    	dna = "06500942693939"
    	attributes = {
    		martial = 4
    		diplomacy = 7
    		intrigue = 6
    		stewardship = 4
    		health = 4
    		fertility = 8
    	}
    	traits = {
    		ecclesiastical_education = yes
    	}
    }
    are married.
    Code:
        marrige = {
            primary = { type = 10 id = 666 }
            secondary = { type = 10 id = 127 }
            startdate = { year = 1066 month = january day = 1 }
        }
    It is said that the successor of Vladimir Monomakh, Mustislav the Great (1076-1132), is the eldest son of Vladimir and Gytha.

    Since the marriage between Catholic and Orthodox seldom occurs in the game, I think scenario setting is needed - yet they have to spend a period of white marriage.

    Sincerely,

    Cool info.
    Do you have any info on when they actually married, or were betrothed? If they were already betrothed in 1066 I can mark them as married (wouln't be the only under-age marriage set in the scenario files), but if this only happened years later it'll alas not be able to make it in.

    Several web-sources indicate they married in 1070, but I could not find any source about whether they were betrothed in 1066 or not.

    In the game situation, however, the actual marriage between Vladimir and Gytha seems to occur in 1070 in this case, because the birthday of Gytha is Jan 1, 1054.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Alexios I Komnenos's birthdate

    Quote Originally Posted by Serbon View Post

    There are 2 sources for Alexios I's birthdate, Ioannes Zonaras (personal secretary who gives 1048) & Anna Komnena (his daughter who gives 1056).

    I chose 1056 date for below reasons;

    1) Alexiad states "..he was only fourteen years old when he wished to campaign with Emperor Romanos Diogenes "against the Persians"[128], assumed to refer to the campaign against the Seljuks which culminated in the battle of Manzikert in 1071.." - this he was denied as his eldest brother Manouel had recently died (1071)

    2)When he became Emperor John Julius Norwich quotes him as being 24 years old - this I've seen in a few other books too

    3)I've never seen Alexios hold any governorship in x province - sources give the impression he was a prodigical field commander who's exploits led to rapid promotion in the ranks - in short a career soldier.

    Therefore I opted for 1056 birthdate instead of 1048 in wiki. To this thread solely on DV I suggest any comments relating to this be started on a new thread.

    PS - Also basing some of my research through http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/BYZA...#_Toc150921122 this site

    I'll track down some of my books on the First Crusade and see what they have to say...

    I will most likely update the DVIP again before Christmas, provided I can get my conquest events to fire reliably..

    DVIP, Addon, and DVIP:Wales are updated, final changelog follows.

    ----
    Changelog for DVIP release 13-12-2009:

    Database / Events:
    *) Dynasty #374 now 'de Tosny'
    *) Addon: female inheritance event fixed
    *) Recreatable Duchy of Achaea now again using the ACHA tag
    *) Returned province of Maine to Normandy, moved Eu to Flanders (allows for better historic gameplay)
    *) Removed possibility for women to become martial clerics through education
    *) Addon: lowered age of education completion to 15. This corresponds to randomly spawned courtiers, and allows for fosterlings to switch religion if they are set to ecclesiastical education (catholic/orthodox switch on demand!)
    *) Addon: BoPack 'child unsuited for education tract' events allowed age range changed from 14-16 to 12-15
    *) Lowered MTTH of conquest events to see if they now will fire...
    *) Changed name of 1204 scenario to 'The Fourth Crusade (1204) - BETA' to reflect unpolished nature of scenario setup

    1066:
    *) Corrected ownership of Corfu
    *) Added second marriage for Sancho Jimenez of La Rioja and corrected birthdate of son
    *) Killed Muña Mayor of Castille (died 1032); corrected birthdate of sons, added Gonzalo
    *) Married the count of Loon to his wife
    *) Added second marriage of Fernan de Castilla
    *) Added first marriage of Ramon Berenguer 'el Vell' de Barcelona
    *) Removed multiple invented (mostly female) characters
    *) Added missing marriages in family tree of count of Tir Eoghain
    *) Corrections to Aberffraw family tree
    *) Made William Rufus de Normandie a rival of people he'd later have killed
    *) Removed 'Sigrid' from Lothian -- not born yet!
    *) Corrected age of Ranulf Flambard, made him a bastard (illegitimate son of a priest)
    *) Put descendants of Uldred of Northumbria in the 'of Bamburgh' dynasty and removed duplicates
    *) Corrected Waltheof count of Northampton's heritage (ties into above), gave claim on Northumberland
    *) Gave Eudes ('Odo') de Blois a claim on Troyes (ousted a year before)
    *) Roger de Beaumont, known as 'the Bearded', now has a beard
    *) Gave Stigand of Canterbury an ecclesiastical education
    *) Removed William 'Walcher' to (Upper) Lotharingia and made him French, not in England until 1070. Removed duplicate placed in Northumberland.
    *) Changed stats of Robert de Mowbray and put him in his home in Avranches (Montbray)
    *) Fixed up the de Tosny / de Stafford dynasty a bit (anyone know who 'Adelise de Tosny' is supposed to be?)
    *) Removed fake 'Robert de Brus' and family from ENGL
    *) Moved Henry de Ferrers and family to Norfolk and made them Normans
    *) Shifted some birthdates of fake characters so they don't all age on the same day, and gave them completed educations (should cut down on CPU load in the first few weeks in-game).
    *) Removed inbred from a few characters which should not have this trait
    *) Made mother of al-Mu'tasim Emir of Almeria older (can't have had child at 11!)
    *) Removed duplicate for Bécc Bairrche of Ulaid
    *) Downgraded Vyatichs to a duchy (don't want other pagans to pledge to them)
    *) Made Alexios Komnenus and Tatikios friends
    *) Achaea now again using the ACHA tag
    *) Restored Alexios Komnenos to former court and aged him back up

    1187:
    *) Achaea now again using the ACHA tag
    *) Made Rhys ap Gruffydd of Deheubath two years younger (1132 vs 1130)
    *) Added bastard son of Rhys, Maelgwn

    1204 (Addon only):
    *) Rulers of Serbia now Serbian
    *) Achaea now again using the ACHA tag
    *) Added Joan, bastard daughter of King John of England and wife of below
    *) Added Llywellyn the Great as ruler of Gwynned
    *) Added Gwenwynwyn of Powys
    *) Added remnant of Deheubarth: count Rhys 'Gryg' ap Rhys of Dyfed and bastard brother (vassal of Llywellyn)
    *) Removed (probably fake -- 'Einion of Gwynned'?) characters from Wales
    *) Added rivalry between the sons of Rhys
    *) 'Romania' now called 'Latin Empire' (more common name)
    *) Faroya now a county, not a duchy

    1337:
    *) Achaea now again using the ACHA tag
    *) Duplicate title for Achaea removed from Duck of Calabria, vassals are now tied to CALA tag

    Additional changes in DVIP: Wales:
    *) 1204: Powys is a duchy of two provinces
    *) Gwynned owns three provinces
    *) 1204: made Maelgwn ap Rhys count of Ystrad Tywi (vassal of Llywellyn)

  12. #1612
    First above all, thanks for update.

    I found that there is three 'Damascus' tags in worldnames.csv - 'DAMA' for recreatable duchy, 'MDAM' for unrecreatable muslim emirate, and... 'MDAA'? I found no 'MDAA' section in country.csv, and no CoA for this tag. Is this tag usable at all?

  13. #1613

  14. #1614
    So I started up 1066 as Galicia but decided to look at some family trees first (latest DVIP and all that). I look and find, uh, this:

    Note the whole "parents" bit. The spouse, too...

    I somehow doubt a living 40 year old man named Abu al-Fadl ibn Hasdai who is Chancellor of the Emirate of Zaragoza would be in a position to give birth to any human who lived two centuries ago.

    *) Added some better flavour text for the above event
    *) Updated 'no Muslims on the Atlantic' event to latest version
    *) Education finishes at 15

    *) Berenguer Ramon II & Ramon Berenguer II are twins

    Gwynedd 1204 "4th Crusade"

    See also: Poet-Prince and Gwynedd interregnum; 1170–1200, Rise of Llywelyn, Llywelyn, John, and the Magna Carta

    Llywelyn ab Iorwerth of the House of Aberffraw, Prince of Gwynedd, Count of Gwynedd, Ynys Mon, and the Perfeddwlad. Born 1173. His stats really should be comparable to William the Conqueror in order to achieve the exploits that he did. He should be “friends” with King John of England in 1204 because of his marriage to John’s illigitimate daughter Joan that year.

    Llywelyn’s father was Iorwerth ab Owain (Gwynedd) (1145-1174), who was the eldest surviving son of Owain Gwynedd following the events of the Gwynedd interregnum. He married Marared ferch Madog (Margaret, daughter Madog), the Mathrafal ruler of Powys. Madog was the son of the same Maredudd ap Bleddyn Mathrafal, elder son of Bleddyn that we see ruling in Gwynedd following the Mathrafal ascendency; 1063–1081 in the 1066 scenario. So that lineage is important. Madog’s eldest son and intended heir was named Llywelyn, and it seems likely that his youngest daughter Marared named her own son by Iorwerth Llywelyn after her brother. Once Gwynedd was usurped by Llywelyn the Great’s uncle Dafydd ab Owain, Llywelyn was raised by his mother in Powys-Fadog.... his uncle's court. Powys had been divided by the next rightful heir Gruffydd Maelor ap Madog Mathrafal and his younger brother, and Gruffydd was Llywelyn's primary father figure who assisted Llywelyn in his attempt to reclaim Gwynedd. By 1174 Wales map mode (start of the 3rd Crusade) we would place Gruffydd Maelor ap Madog as ruler of "Powys" (representing Powys Fadog) and in a position to assist Llywelyn reclaim his inheritance from Dafydd, while Maelynedd would represent Powys Wynwynwyn with Owain Gwynedd posted there. In the standard map mode for 1174 we would place Owain Gwynwynwyn as ruler of Powys in 1174 but more of Powys to follow. In either case Powys would not be a vassel of Gwynedd in either start 1174 or 1204.

    Llywelyn married Joan (b.c. 1191) sometime between December 1203 and October 1204 in a diplomatic marriage. She should have high diplomacy skills as she was the primary ambassador between her husband and her father, King John. She was not spoilt or selfish as she was an illigitimate child.

    Llywelyn has an elder son named Gruffydd Goch (the Red) ap Llywelyn (b.c. 1196) (characterized as rash and bold, prehaps "misguided warrior"?) and a daughter Marared ferch Llywelyn (b. 1198) by a long time companion named Tangwystl Goch (the Red) ferch Lywerch Goch (use the surname Goch if you add her). Their children would not have been considered bastards under Welsh law and in 1204 Gruffydd Goch was expected to be his father’s heir. I would list them as bastards because part of Llywelyn’s diplomatic marriage to Joan was an effort to produce legitimate children connected to the English royal house that would be acceptable in Catholic law for marriage with other reigning royal houses. Gruffydd and his sister should have the dynasty name Aberffraw.

    I would make Gruffydd and Marared as advisories of Joan. Would I list Tangwystl Goch ferch Llywerch? Possibly if we wish to also make them lovers as they were for years to come. If so, she would be an enemy of Joan.

    Other courtiers in Llywelyn’s court:

    Robert of Shrewsbury, Bishop of Bangor (Gwynedd) from 1197-1213. He represented the on-going attempt by the Archbishop of Canterbury to force an Anglo-Norman or English bishop in Gywnedd to usurp the traditional influence of the Welsh Church. Also, to encourage an ecclesiastical fifth column within Gwynedd against her native priests. See also: Norman invasion of Gwynedd; 1081–1100 for their first attempt to force a foreign bishop to suppliant native traditions.

    Cadwgan of Llandyfai , also known as Martin (prehaps list his name as Cadwgan Martin Llandyfai?) was the next Bishop of Bangor (Gwynedd) from 1215-1241. It may be wise to place him in the court of Llywelyn. Llywelyn had a direct influence on his election, returing it to Welsh control.

    Hywel ap Cynan Aberffraw, Baron of Meirionydd (since 1200). Hywel was Llywelyn’s dynastically junior cousin and vassel of Merionydd. Hywel. son of Cynan, son of Owain Gwynedd. Cynan was the younger half-brother of Llywlyn’s father Iorwerth by Owain Gwynedd’s widor by Cristen, Dowager Princess of Deheubarth. I would have no idea of his stats though.

    Ednyfed Fychan (Fychan would translate to “Little”, or the “Younger”, and eventually evolved into the name Vaughn), Seneshal of Gwynedd under Llywelyn. He is very important for several reasons. He was an accomplished warrior and leader, and eventually chief advisor. He is Llywelyn’s William Cecil or prehaps Otto von Bismark. But also because he is the direct ancestor of the Tudor (Tewdwr) dynasty which would rule in England in the 16th century, and his decendent would include Queen Elizabeth I!!!!! he would have high diplomacy and martial stats, as he was influencial in the 1216 Council of Aberdyfi in which he helped orchastrate the other Welsh lords to recognized Llywelyn as their prince of Wales. Ednyfed's other titles would include Lord of Bryn Ffanigl and Lord of Criccieth.

    Gwyn ab Ednywain: (b.c 1170) He was the Distain or Prime Minister before Ednyfed Fachan, so he too would need to have warrior states and chancellor stats.

    Will DVIP work on an apple machine running OSX? Has anyone gotten it to work? If so, what steps did you take (install orders, etc)?

    I remember from before that female inheritance never worked on OSX: is that still the case?

    The new method for female inheritance should work on OSX as well, as it no longer relies on setting an invalid law.
    I don't have a Mac myself, but others have tested DVIP before and it appears to work.

    Install order is the same as for PC:
    Install CK plus Deus Vult,
    install the last patch (if any exists for Mac),
    then install DVIP
    then install the Addon if you want more kingdoms, female inheritance, etc..

    Oh! Discovered that after Tangwystl Goch and Llywelyn seperated, she married Llywelyn's chief advisor Ednyfed Fychan!!!! So maybe marry them early then for 1204? If we marry them then she should not be lovers with Llywelyn

    Also, discovered another of Llywelyn's chief advisors before Ednyfed Fychan was Gwyn ab Ednywain. So I would add Gwyn ab Ednywain as well to be the Marshal position before Ednyfed Fychan.

    Other Aberffraw members important to add to connect Llywelyn to Owain Gwynedd and the Third Crusade: Battle of Hattin scenario include:

    Owain ap Gruffydd (aka Owain Gwynedd) 1100–November 28, 1170, Prince of the Welsh. He is listed in the 1187 Battle of Hattin scenario as the father of Dafydd, usurper Prince of Gwynedd. In the 1187 scenario his id is 14710

    Rhun ab Owain 1137-1170 eldest son and initial heir until his premature death. He was the Flower of Celtic Chivalry, according to one Welsh source. His 1187 scenario id is 14715

    Hywel ab Owain, 1140-1170, known as the Bard in accound of his poetic skills (Follow this link to some of his writtings). Hwyel was Owain's second child and after Rhun's untimely death, Hywel became Owain's successor according to Welsh law and custom. I would list his name as Hwyel y Bardd. He was killed by his younger brother Dafydd the Usurper. His 1187 scenario id is 14716

    Iowerth ab Owain, known as Iorwerth Drwyndwn ( broken-nosed) (1145-1174) Llywelyn's father and according to Welsh law and custom the heir rightful heir of Owain Gwynedd, but was displaced by Dafydd the Usurper. Iorwerth had been married to Marared ferch Madog in a diplomatic marriage to Powys. Iorwerth died when Llywelyn as an infant, and Marared and Llywelyn left for the court of her brother who held Powys Fadog. His 1187 scenario id is 14712

    Dafydd ab Owain (1150-1203) the Usurper, I would list his name as Dafydd y Bradwyr. He was married to Emma of Anjou, the king's aunt. He died in exile in 1203 and had children raised in England, but nothing is known of them that I know. His 1187 scenario id is 14700

    Cynan ab Owain 1147-1174. He is important if we are adding Gruffydd ap Cynan, 1163-1202, and his son Hwyel ab Gruffydd (b. 1191) (in Llywelyn's court to represent the lordship of Marionydd)

    Rhodri ab Owain his 1187 scenario id is 32002

    Owain had many many more children by wifes and mistresses, but these would be the most important to represent here.
    (Edit: will add a few more shortly)
