Okay, I'm screwed again. It's about 1105 and my save crashes every time I load it. I sent it to support and I hope they take a look. As an added bonus if they could fix my save after discovering the bug that would be great. I've wasted many hours now on games I can't finish and it's getting tiresome.

This save crashes immediately upon load.

Update: I did have a save from two years earlier in this game so I went back to that. This time I didn't declare war on the count of mayo and my game contiued for 5 years before I had to quit for the night.

Am I right in assuming that the StackWalk() function has something to do with troop movement?

OK -- going to try to explain without getting too technical. I'll probably end up just confusing people so forgive me :)

When a program is running it puts values for various things in a "stack" of data. The StackWalk() function basically rummages through the stack and finds whatever bit of data that the programmer was looking for when he called the function. No way to know unless you're the programmer, but probably either there's a problem with the function call itself or whatever data is being retrieved from the stack is unexpected and is causing a crash.

Keep in mind I'm a layman so I could be totally wrong. But regardless, I don't think it has anything to do (at least directly) with troop movement.

On another note, I'm really hoping we see a fix for this soon. I've had this game for 5 weeks now and haven't even been able to play it.

I may have a lead on the CTDs that produce GetLastError= 126:

Taking a quick sample of the last 20 CTDs on my computer, anytime the CTD happened at the same time I clicked on a portrait, I did not receive a GetLastError = 126 or GetLastError = 487.

I have no idea if this helps, but I can post a copy and paste of my error log, and point out the previous crashes relating to clicking on a character portrait.

I often get this when using a lot of assassins while paused. Here's the bottom of the exceptions log:
Code:
######## EXCEPTION: 0xC0000005 at address: 0x0042FE96: ACCESS VIOLATION read attempt to address 0x00000008
11/23/07 10:44:27

######## EXCEPTION: 0xC0000005 at address: 0x0042FE96: ACCESS VIOLATION read attempt to address 0x00000008
11/23/07 15:17:38

And from the previous version:
Code:
######## EXCEPTION: 0xC0000005 at address: 0x0042FE76: ACCESS VIOLATION read attempt to address 0x00000008
11/12/07 21:05:21

Assassinations do work OK - I've had the full range of results with many different situations - but it seems 1/10 or so CTD for me.

Tried a different game with the new beta patch, and does the same lock up. :(

Avid reader of all forums here. I rarely post...but this problem has fallen upon me of late and it got really bad yesterday. I literally could not play for more than 10-15 mins without the game locking up. I received maybe 8 fatal errors in all. I'm in around 1090-1093 ish, game time.

There was no one action of mine that the error could be associated with, as I was performing different tasks each time the game froze.

I thought it may be attributed to me running Vista Premium, but after reading this thread that apparently is not the issue.

I would please ask that the folks with paradox work dilligently toward another patch...it's a great game that's been severely hamstrung by a really annoying bug. I love CK...Eagerly awaiting a solution to this little problem.

Banks -- CK or DV? If you play with Deus Vult, make sure to get the beta patch from the main CK forum.

Yes I'm playing with DV. Thanks for the tip. I'll grab that patch, but from what I've read aren't people still having problems after loading that patch or am I off on that?

Some are -- but most crashes seem to be resolved. I had a few crashes with it but those turned out to be because of a mod that was somehow incompatible with DV; no other crashes.
With the beta DV is certainly as stable as 1.05 for me.

Alright...I'll give that a try then. Thanks!!

Oh, will I be able to load up my saved game after I've installed the patch?
and will that saved game have all patch specs applied to it?

Hi, I'm completely new to these forums, I've been getting consistent crashes with the same error everytime I run CK:DV after installing the new beta patch, usually after playing for a bit less than an hour.

There is no DEP issue with DV.
I have DEP enabled for all applications (system properties - advanced - advanced - performance - data execution prevention) and DV runs normally.
XP: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/prodtech/windowsxp/depcnfxp.mspx

The above info you quoted is not applicable in any case for 99% of all users, since DEP is disabled by default for applications not part of the Windows OS, as a user you have to manually enable it.

But again, DV has no issues with DEP.
