A Peace to end all Peaces has moved to the following thread:

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?p=11055997&posted=1#post11055997

History of this mod:
Months ago, there was a thread asking if a WWI-never-happened-mod: this idea was never completed, and probably no work had been done on it, and i was disapointed.

I have decided to bring back that idea in the modding forum. More than that, i have already made an important part of the work this mod would need. But first a few features.

This mod will give you the possibility to play as Imperial Germany, Austria-Hungary, Russian Empire, Ottoman Empire, etc in 1936, with the main idea than WWI never happened. The turning point? Here again Serbia is in the scenario- the Habsburg friendly Alexander I of Serbia was never assasinated, thus empeaching the more radical Peter I to rise to power, preventing terrorist movements to gain power, and by a domino effect, the assasination of Franz-Ferdinand, the Great War, and all the following crisis and events.

You may wonder: 'What is the point of playing with the 1914 borders? There is already a WWI mod for HoI2.'

This mod will offer you something different. It will be a mix of the (excellent) 1914 mod, and the original 1936 campain. Alliances won't be the same cliché France-Britain-Russia against Germany & Co. But i won't tell you much now, I don't want to spoil your fun.

Version 0.61 Download:
http://rapidshare.com/files/132428765/pteap_beta0.61.rar.html

Quick Installation Guide:

Make a copy of HoI2DD (or Arma, because its Armageddon Compatible), and put the files in this copy. Just overwrite everything it wants to overwrite, but remember to make this over a copy of the vanilla game.

AARs made with/inspirated by this mod:

The War Path (Catalonia) - By Kurt Steiner

Le Troisième Empire (France) - By Kiarg (in French)

Europe 1936

Wow. This is absolutly unoriginal. The reason is than no major wars occured in Europe since 1871. The old continent is dominating the world even more than in 1914, and its economy is still head of America's one, as no Great War or economical crisis occured. But the massive industrial build-up of Europe came at a cost, and the colonial empires are dependent of their colonies regarding resources.

You may notice that small Poland than was not in 1914- it is the fruit of serious revolts and international interventions regarding that region, and the fact than this small Polish state, dominated by Russia, have territorial claims against Germany and Austria is a fact than may threaten the stability of the region.

Some European governement, in 1936:

gergovernementwg7.png

Yay, Germany! Whatever is the mod, you can't escape it: playing as Germany is a must. The old Kaiser is still powerfull, but the democratisation of the once authoritarian regime is the first sign of the decline of the old Prussian military aristocracy.

Note than any of those cabinents are perfecly finished, ministers will change of ministry, apear, disapear.

Russia! Here too, there is an old monarch on the throne. Nicholas II is still alive, and kicking. Even if he allowed the formation of a weak Duma, he is still the most powerfull man of his country. He may show signs of senility a few years after the begining of the game, and a succesor will have to be choosen.

No Mussolini for Italy. The conservative monarchy stayed away from any kind of totalitarism, and the young kingdom's small embitions are good for its diplomacy: any paths are possible for Italy.

Austria Hungary is in an overall better shape than in 1914. Even if he survived his assasination (than never happened) at Sarajevo, he did not survived that horrible pneumonia he caught in the Alps in February 1926. As he didnt had any son, the double throne was granted to his cousin Charles. The Augleisch renegotiations of 1927 turned better than epxected: the monarchy was reorganized on a more federalist organisation, and the regions granted a very acceptable level of autonomy. 1936 rises on a stable Central Europe.

Elsewhere in the world, Britain is still a powerfull empire- its dominions are less free than in our timeline. France is more rich, and will probably seek to take her revenge against a maybe too self-confident Germany. America never beneficied the post-war economical boost, and was almost the only country hitten by the 1929 economical crisis (than was far less serious). The result are a greater isolationism, the end of bipartism at the benefit of smaller parties and a less dominating economy.

Portugal and Spain are sill conservative monarchies.

I hope there is an interest in this project, if not, too bad i will finish it anyway as it is already advenced.

What is done:
-Scenario, even if it will require some finishing touchs
-Governement for most of majors, will also need more details
-2 new countries: an Austria-Hungary using the U02 tag, a combination of Austrian, Hungarian, Czechs and various other nationalities ministers, leader and tech teams. Also a 'Congress Poland' covering the 'Russian' part of Poland (the nation shown on the Europe map)
-Flags and skins for most of countries
-SKIF style icons for Austria-Hungary and Imperial Russia! It will be an optional download, but fun for the SKIF users out there.
-Two new musics than may vary the coundtrack and bring a different athmosphere to the game.

Wow thats so cool!I always wanted to see a 1936 Europe unchanged by The Great war.
I can help with the Balkan events,at least sketch them since i`m no modder. Most notably there should be a 3 balkan war if there wasn`t ww1 since Bulgaria would remain the strongest balkan country with no economic depressions and reparations to pay.

Looks very cool. I can help you with, can you guess, Serbia, Montenegro and also with OOBs. Who is a king in Serbia and who in Montenegro. And, maybe you can unite Serbia and Montenegro in one country, or you can add events that do this. Good luck!!!

Since this is a war game we need wars here.

Large and small we will take them all

For wars we need pretext, social upheaval, someone who is not getting their share of the pie.

Someone whose share has been taken.

All these countries overextended their industrial supply reserves by superbuilding the industry. Probably all besides Russia and USA.

You need a continental war in the South America to take out that continent's raw materials from the game and cause major pain for the great powers.
Some countries have interest in the area but will get pushed out.

Of course there is also the Monroe Doctrine and even weaker USA would be prime for a war with any violation since that would get their industrial base up to speed.

Those that get involved here will be weakened for other conflicts by splitting resources.

You might want to have Japan begin contesting the pacific theater for resources and threatening UK's Australian possessions, and Russia. Have them have super tech teams so they can be above the opposition. Have them be amicable to China just to break the tradition of every other mod.

If Japan allies China and goes for UK and French Pacific holdings, then China can tie up the Jewel of the Crown and then go for the middle east. china of course must not be allowed to have a derisive victory over India very fast and without effort.

Ottomans intact will still have problems with the arabs.

In fact all players in the region must have problems with pan arab nationalism.

What you might want for the entire africa region is civil rights and pan africanism

For Russia (since it is so strong) you might want an internal religious conflict. A new reformation brought about by of course corrupt clergy.

Kaiser dies.
Austrian Empress dies.

Hapsburg marries Princess Auguste Viktoria Friederike Luise Feodora Jenny of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg, Empress of Germany and queen of Prussia

Central European Peace is proclaimed for "Ever and Ever."

Hapsburg dies.
Empress of Austro Hungary commits suicide.
Which with some help from the Pope invalidates Crown prince Otto Von Hapsburg

Crown Prince Eitel Friedrich becomes the Dual Emperor.

German court tries to control this triple monarchy. This pisses the Hungarians to no end since only the Emperor of Austria can be in dual monarchy. So they call for a split.

German court faction can be of the Great Germany mind and are readily willing to let Hungary and related minors go to be left with Austria and Sudeterland.

Austrian court on the other hand says "it is not yours to give away" as they they have extensive ties to the Hungarian holdings. And the Whole of Bohemia

Austrians support Archduke Franz Joseph Otto Robert Maria Anton Karl Max Heinrich Sixtus Xaver Felix Renatus Ludwig Gaetan Pius Ignatius of Austria.

Hungarians also might side with Otto. Or they may side with Miklós Horthy de Nagybánya

Civil War ala Carlist Spain sequence ensues

Sweden and Norway also get into a double monarchy.

It is a bit late. I am off to bed.

Edit: Oh yea! Almost forgot. You need a Balkan War. Everyone needs a balkan war.

Say Ottomans, seeing all the trouble with the austria germany, and if russians are distracted with japan ala 1905 might want to go for the balkans.

Also an early Russia/USA war might be an interesting square off.

Because if WW1 hadn't happened there wouldn't have been a tired Brittain in no position to stop the irish independent process. Instead all hints of irish uprisings against the Empire would have been dealt with. I think a irish independent movement would most probably exist though. What about marxism in this TL? It would probably have taken a different route in it's evolution with no Russian revolution. Fascism should also not exist. I see you already treat absolutism as fascism from the russian screenshot, not a bad idea at all. Are you thinking of splitting Northern China in the Anhu, Zhili and Fengtien cliques?
What about Mexico? Did the revolution happen? Did US intervene? So many questions.

@Atruejedi: Thank you.

@patriot1: There will be a 3rd Balkan war. Since Serbia in this TL is quiet, Bulgaria still happy having an acces to Egean sea, and Romania have notihng to grab in the Balkans, i was thinking of a Greek-Bulgarian confrontation about thr Kavala province, with the winner going to war to grab Macedonia...

@tarakan: You got the point. Since Russia is already overextended, Germany comfortably installed, and Austria pacified i was thinking about a revengist France. Not purely Fascist, but since the 3rd Republic was saved by WWI and the prestige of its victory, social unrest would be enough for it to collaspe, and a strong governement to plan a war.

There will be revolts of any kind in Russia.

I don't want any major crisis about Austria, and a 'triple monarchy' including Germany would upset the Magyars and the Slavs, as they would become a minority.

Thanks for your ideas :)

@knugen_n1: yourworstnightm answered perfectly to this question.

@yourworstnightm: There will be an Irish crisis in the begining of the game, but the British Empire of this TL is still powerfull enough to crush that.

Communism in this Timeline is almost non-existant. With no great war, every revolution would have been killed by the governement and the neighbording countries would have did everything to prevent it, in order to keep their own stability. There is still Social Democracy in Scandinavia, and probably even in China (Social Democrat Mao in a multipartist democratic China? thats seems a bit too idealistic but can be fun :p )

Fascism don't exist, Spain is a simple monarchy, same for Italy and Germany. It will probably be named 'Absolutism'. I still need to rename National-Socialism to something different. Despotism?

Shanxi will probably be renamed to something different, Anhui clique is 'allied' with Guanxi because im too lazy to build a minor and nonimportant nation. I'ts unlikely than Japan will invade China, Russia would never allow Japanese influence to grow beyond control in the reigion.

Mexico's history is the same than in our timeline.

national socialism could be radical nationalism, however I don't see any government having that ideology at least in the start. The marxist ideologies should probably not be named leninist and stalinist in this TL and only pop up in case of a general crisis in some of the nations, like absolutist Russia, which probably has huge problems controlling all the nationalities and the russian reformists. Perhaps a franco- russian, a brittish- japanese and a separate german block as alliances in the beginning. Japan would probably still be expansionist, perhaps trying to controll the chinese warlords. Another quite interresting idea would be Japan trying to press the northern warlords to accept a Qinq restauration (they tried in the twenties, the warlords did not listen). Communist should not be a strong force in China since chinese communism was heavily influenced by the russian revolution that in this TL did not happen.

I guess both Russia and Austria- Hungary has independence movements to deal with. Probably the ottomans too. Are the young turks still in power in Istanbul. If that's the case the russo- ottoman relations should be quite bad.

What about South America. Has the chaco war happened?
And I still ask you to rethink your position that Mexico should be the same as vanilla. Mr. Wilson was very close to intervene in Mexico at several occassions and would proabably have done so if there wasn't another more pressing crisis luring on the horizon.

If this is a fruit of revolts and interventions it makes little sense if the state didn't have territorial claims on RUSSIA - after all it is ONLY formed from areas of 'russian' Poland which means those revolts were anti-russian...

More probable conflict is Bulgaria versus Romania, since Dobrudja is almost 85%bulgarian by population. In Tulcea there was a little bulgarian minority 15%.Plus Romania never had claims on Dobrudja(constanta+Tulcea)before the russians forced them to conclude a trety(after russo-turkish war of 1978)and exchanged Bessarabia for Northern Dobrudja(Tulcea). At first they were unwiling cause as it appeared some time latter this made them hostile with the bulgarians.By the begining of the 20 century however romanians started to claim Southern Dobrudja which was a pure expansionist politics.
Other probable conflict would be Bulgaria vs Serbia since Bulgaria claims Macedonia and the eastern part of Nis and pristina province.I pretty much think Serbia and Romania should be in an alliance maybe even with Greece cause if bulgarians succeeds in the east and north they would 200% turn their eyes to Solun and Edessa(a little bit too imperialistic for Eddessa cause bulgarian pop there is clearly a minority).

Note however Dobrudja was always a priority for Bulgaria since 1913.

@ tarakan "Oh yea! Almost forgot. You need a Balkan War. Everyone needs a balkan war"
Should i understand this as some sort of irony?

this looks really interesting.. but why would europe have remained almost entirely static for sixty years? revolution was already brewing in russia before the Great War, and no war wouldn't necessarily mean no revolution, just a DIFFERENT revolution

The thing I feel absolutely should be considered by anyone who makes a mod where Francis Ferdinand survives is that Austria-Hungary probably would not exist anymore. The Dual Monarchy was doomed to destruction: not necessarily of the state itself, but of the construction desperatly needed a change.
In fact, in the first decade of the 20th century, there was almost a war Austria vs. Hungary when the Ausgleich renegtiations went badly. I'd estimate that - if nothing at all changed - by 1927, the Hungarians simply have no need of the empire anymore and will go their own way (possibly dragging Europe into an alt-WW1).

Instead, I would suggest construction your alt-Austria along the lines of the United States of Greater Austria (or USGA for short).
If anything, it would help change the feeling that this 1936 is simply 1906 with different clothes.

I've made a possible flag of this country and the same in HoI style (shield also in pseudo-EU3 style that you seem to use, plus flag and skin). If you want to use them, I can give them to you.

Edit: There's also good cause to believe that Germany by now would be social democratic - it is a German invention, after all.

Looks amazing, i can't wait for it! Also, did you say something about colonial empires expanding? if so ... explain more, a map or what ever.

Again, looks brilliant!

Also, shouln't italy be allied with Germany/AH?

this mod looks amazing, i cant wait till its finished. one question, what will be the role of the U.S.? Just more isolation? Or maybe problems/war with Mexico?

Well, that would be a point of conflict. Bulgaria wants Dobruja, at least the South portion. But you've got your facts wrong. Romania wanted it (the portion currently in Romanian territory - the South wasn't such a justified territorial ambition) from the start, as it had been a constituent of Wallachia until the Ottomans annexed it into the Empire directly, as opposed to the rest of the Principality which was beyond the Danube. There WAS a lot of hesitation over exchanging South Bessarabia as it was seen as a way to get back all of Bessarabia, leaving Romanians to the Russian empire wasn't seen as a safe thing to do at that time and because the presence of the Danube meant a big bridge would have to be built across it, to make for a more accessible trade route (the Saligny bridge was commissioned afterwards).
