Greater Cantonian Republic

Brief Introduction
This AAR used MOD34, GIP and several self-modding, also with some people recruited from this forum. :D It's based on Armageddon, with "Democratic government can declare war" and "Full IC takeover" ON. Its difficulties is set to Normal/Normal.

This AAR will be shown in both novel style(though my writing is bad) and semi-novel style(Pictures with a paragraph).

Background Information
The Chinese revolution in 1911 shaked the once-great nation of China. Revolutionaries uprised in Wuchang and the revolution spreaded across the falling Qing Empire. After Puyi, the last emperor's abdication, the Republic of China was established. Being excited by the shining future of Democratic China, uprises were outbroke in Hong Kong and Macau, the colony of European Empires. After several short battles, United Kingdom and Portugal returned this two cities to China.

Later, while the Constitutional Protection Movement, Gaan Sok, a warlord who controlled Guangzhou, supported the Republic government, and gained politic power after the movement ended in 1922. Later, after the Northern Expedition, Gaan Sok, with about 30 thousand soldiers, become one of those warlords in China.

Gaan Sok declared independence of the Gwongdung Gungwokwok(GDG), or Republic of Cantionia, in 1928. Although the Chinese government do not like this act, since there are countless warlords within the border, and Gaan Sok's support towards China, the cabinet decided to ignore this "naive politicial act".

Gaan Sok was died of old age 2 years later, and his first son, Gaan Kwok-dung became the new president of GDG, while the second son, Gaan Kwok-loeng bacame the Chief of Army. After settled the small riot in Gwongzau, Gaan Kwok-dung started his plan to bring GDG into the international society.

Greater Cantonian Republic

Prologue

PeninsulaHotel.jpg

1934.10.01 2200
Peninsula Hotel, Hoenggong, Cantonia

In a room of the top floor of the Peninsula Hotel , Gaan Kwok-dung, in a typical civilian suit, was watching the harbour view of Hong Kong. However, it seems that he do not quiet enjoy the Scenic of this Pearl of the Orient. It's almost half an hour after the time of this secret meeting, but there are no other people inside the room or even the closed whole floor. Being a bit impatient, Kwok-dung took out his pocket watch and read the time on it.

"It is 10 o'clock, and I am going back to Gwongzau in 5 minutes." Kwok-dung thought, and walked toward his black briefcase. Suddenly, when he just took up his briefcase from the floor, he heard the sound of shoes stepping on the floor. Before he could react, the owner of that sound knocked the door.

"Pl, please come in." Kwok-dung responsed, sounds a bit nervous.

"Good evening, Mr. Gaan. I apologise for the late." With the door opened, a woman in black suit walked in, bowed to Kwok-dung and said.

"You don't need to apologise, I just arrived several minutes ago. Please take a seat. May I ask your name, please?" Kwok-dung smiled.

"Thank you, Mr. Gaan. Just call me Jing-cing." Jing-cing bowed again, smiling.

=========================================================

"So, what do they want from me?" After sitting down on the sofa, Kwok-dung questioned Jing-cing sitting opposite to him.

"What a straight person you are, Mr. Gaan." She answered. After cleaning her throat, she said, "I'll make it simple since you probably don't want to waste time. We want you to clean our back."

"You know, since the chaos started from 20 years ago, numerous warlords had tried to unite China. Although they are destined to fail, their forces are still annoying to us, esspecially we are fighting against the communist thieves. So, we need your help to settle those warlords in southern China."

"What's good for us, then? We won't do things which is not good for us."Kwok-dung said, looking at Jing-cing's face.

"Rather than those shining nationalistic reasons, I think this will be more attractive." She opened her briefcase, and took out a scroll. After putting it on the table, she unfold it, and the map of China is revealed.

"You can see, other than Gwongdung, the Gui Clique and the Dian Clique controlled the southwestern China. Unlike the Ma Clique, they don't support the Republic of China, and will invade us if there are chances. The Chairman Lin think there should be a more loyal government to secure those lands."

"I guess that we're the loyal one."

"Certainly, Mr. Gaan. Your family is always loyal to us......"

"That might be true, but I'm afraid that this is not a good reason to convince my cabinet."

"He knew that too, so we decided to give Gwongdung some rewards." Jing-cing took out a pen, and circle the whole Gwanxi and Yunnan.

"If you can take out those warlords, these lands will belong to Gwongdung until we finished the business with communist thieves and japanese."

"Sounds nice, any other reasons?" After about an minute of thinking, Kwok-dung asked.

"To support your advance, the Nanjing government will trade resources to Gwongdung with a nice price. I think these reasons should be strong enough to settle your cabinet and your Parliament if needed."

"Alright, I'll talk to the cabinet on the double ten day meeting." After minutes of thinking, Kwok-dung agreed this deal.

"Thank you for supporting us, Mr. Gaan." Jing-cing bowed to Kwok-dung, then left the room quietly.

After the door is closed, Kwok-dung took out a bottle of red wine from a shelf.

"Just as planned." He tasted the wine and thought.

=========================================================
1) "communist thieves" is the literal translation of the Chinese word "共匪", used by Nationalist China to describe Communist China and her leaders.

2)"Gui Clique" and "Dian Clique" is the literal translation of "Guanxi Clique" and "Yunnan" in game, while "Ma Clique" is "Xibei San Ma"(Three Ma in Northwest).

3)Some place names were changed to Cantonese Pronunciation after Cantonia controlled there.

Greater Cantonian Republic

Double Ten Day Meeting in 1934
1934.10.10
Presidential palace, Gwong'zau, Cantonia

In the meeting room in the Presidential palace, the cabinet of the Cantonia was sitting on the chairs around the round table. A giant map of the southern China was hanging on the wall behind Gaan Kwok-dung's seat, while two full size flag of the republic was hanged beside it.

"Well, as everyone seems to be ready, shall we start the meeting now?" After several docuements were distributed to everyone by the secretariat, Gaan Kwok-dung asked.

"Very well, " After everyone noded, Kwok-dung smiled and asked, "May Mr. Gaan brief the status of the army?"

"Yes, sir." Gaan Gwok-loeng, the Chief of Army, and brother of Kwok-dung, stood up with the docuement and said, "There are about 36 thousand regular soldiers and 16 thousand Cavalry defending our capital, also, there are about 8 thousand trained civilians as police forces."

"In Bou'on and Ou'mun, there are 18 thousand soldiers deployed as well. Also, the Hoeng'gong police forces have 8 thousands police officers as well." He continued.

"Hoeng'gong? Since we controlled Bou'on, there is no need for garrisons in there, right?" Kwok-dung questioned about this deployment.

"Maybe, but we still have to prevent an amphibious attack?" Kwok-loeng answered.

"Not likely, all forces which may attack us don't have a single boat, right?" Kwok-dung, being unconvinced, questioned again.

"Yes, according to our intelligence, neither Gui nor Dian have navy." Guo Zhi-feng, the Head of Intelligence, stood up and said.

"Well, then shall we redeploy those soldiers to Bou'on?" Kwok-loeng suggested.

"Not a bad idea." Wang Tsing-fei said.

"As no one object it, Mr. Gaan, please redeploy those soldiers and police forces to Bou'on?"
Boucyu_HK.png

"Wait, Police?" Tsing-fei seems shocked by Kwok-dung's order.

"Yes, I feel that there will be war against us soon." Gwok-dung answered, with a rather strange reason.

"Um...... Since there are regular polices in Hoeng'gong, this act should not cause harm to the safety of Hoeng'gong."

"Then, please confirm that those troops will be in position in a month. Ah, Mr, Guo, there's something I want to do with intelligence." Gwok-dung suddenly turned to Zhi-feng and asked.

"I think there are some spies operating within our border, so may you deploy several agents in Gwong'zau?"

"Certainly, we'll caught any spy we found......" Zhi-feng answered, with confidence.

"No, please don't scare them until we confirmed all spy activities in our country."

"Forgive me for being straight, but being benevolent to enemy may cause troubles to us."

"No, I just don't want to scare the snake by beating the grasses." Gwok-dung smiled and said, "If it's needed, I want to make sure that no snake will flee...... So, please inform me about all data of those spies before we take action?"

"Yes, sir."

"Also, if I remember correctly, you're in charge of the Department of Intelligence R&D? May you tell them to reorginse the industry of Cantonia?"

"Certainly, but what way we shall focus on?"

"Peace way. We're a peaceful country, aren't we?" Gwok-dung smiled again.

PeaceWay.png

"Ha, I'll tell them about it." Zhi-feng laughed and said.

"So, since today is one of our valuable holiday, anyone without special things to report to me can leave now." Gwok-dung stood up and bowed to others, after everyone stood up, he said, "And Gwok-loeng, please stay for a while? Others can leave now."

After the last minister left the meeting room, Gwok-loeng walked beside Gwok-dung.

"Please deploy a Gui Clique soldier company near northern Gwong'zau...... secretly." Gwok-dung said to Gwok-loeng quietly.

"Yer sir!" Gwok-loeng saluted to Gwok-dung, who is smiling in a strange way.

============================================================
1) For reading purpose, some place name had added ' to seperate different characters.

2)This contained Chinese Characters, so some people might not be able to read(even see) it, but that's why secrets are secrets. :D

3)Too bad I can't find a proper image of the Presidential palace. :(

4)Double Ten Day is the day remembering the Chinese Revolution, and Cantonian Government have a regular meeting on this day.

Vote available for this chapter : Slider Move
Available choices:
→Democracy should be spread(towards Democratic)
(4)The state shall have more power(towards Authoritarian)
→We shall be liberal(towards Left)
→We shall be conservative(towards Right)
→Our society is too open, we should treat locals better(towards Closed Society)
(1)→The government should interfere the market(towards Central Planning)
→We don't need that much regular army(towards Draft Army)
→Our government is too belligerent(towards Dove Lobby)
→We shall not care so much about the foreign world(towards Isolationism)
→Our government is the best ever(save the move until next chapter)

My suggestion : Don't mess with the marketing one. (Not a must though)

Everyone in the cabinet will have 1 vote (one with several positions will just have 1 vote), and the next chapter will start when all ministers are voted or it's Sunday. (Deadline might not always be in Sunday)

Good luck with this aar. Just one question: Why would towards the left be liberal??? liberal means democratic, (very) open society, and it's usualy more right than left.

Rather it's between conservative and socialist. Good luck though; an extra warlord is always for the good. Who are the ministers that will vote?

Because in this situation, when you got 1 towards left, you'll become Social Liberal. :)

Thanks. :)
All the minister in the cabinet(they are recruited from another post) will vote. (I don't know whether leaders can vote too)
Also, minister with more than one position still have only one vote. :)

→The state shall have more power(towards Authoritarian)

This is the only good movement. :D

Admiral Long Ling agrees with this. The government should be granted more power in these days. When our country will be relieved of foreign threats and economic strain, the power shall be given back to the people. But for now, we need a rather authoritarian policy, and all gather behind our noble leader to bring Cantonia forward.

Oh no. I'm not actually spying. As department head, I just send out henchmen. :D I just sit in the office reading spy reports, forwarding them to you, and reading about new spy gadgets. Anyway, enough banter, reorganizing the industry will be difficult if we run a laissez faire system, although R&D will agree with me when I say that we rather like our wages, but, still, I suggest making a move towards centralized economy if you wish to carry out this plan. Otherwise, granting ourselves more power sounds like a great idea! :D

Many replies :D
Also, while the cabinet ministers are still voting, here's some blueprint of the Cantonian expension(not confirmed) :
Plan.jpg

Blue Line - Cantonian Border at 1934.10.10
Orange Line - Lands of the ancient Dual-Gwong Provinces, also the official Cantonian territorial claims in 1934.10.10
Red Line - The possible border line of Greater Cantonia
My idea is : Some event may trigger some event, which include the claim to those lands. For example, if Cantonia joined Japanese and declared war upon China, those lands south of the Yangtze River will become core of Cantonia. And if a war with Allies (or Japanese controlled Indochina) will add cores of most of the Indochina. :)
