Introduction

Everyone:Keep the discussion up
Funky: Hopefully this won't take away from my contributing to the First UK Co-operative AAR. (Hehe just a little promotion of that there :D)

And Finally the first actual post of this AAR:

1936 - Depression Continues

Economy and Government

As Australia crept into the late 1930s the Great Depression was still ruling the economy.

The Depression ravaged Australian economy.

This was the case despite the best efforts of the ruling Conservative government. The Australian Prime Minister, Joseph A. Lyons, had lost a great amount of prestige in the years since the Wall Street Crash. There had been no great changes to the government since the event and the general Australian Public had lost faith with a number of government ministers:

This public backlash to ministers in his government led Lyons to replace them swiftly:

These ministers helped reduce the military supply consumption(Chief of Army) and they also decreased the amount of consumer goods that the public required(Minister of Security).

The Military

The Australian Military had not developed much since the immediate aftermath of World War One in comparison to the other combatants, even in comparison with a weakened but embittered Germany. The forces available would be insufficient once the inevitable war, fuelled by the harshness of the Treaty of Versailles, arrived.

The Army

ScreenShot2ArmyComparison.jpg

The Army was not a mobile force. Only a minor proportion of the military were not garrison forces. This would be a major strengthening target of the government in the years proceeding 1939.

The Navy

Although the Australian Navy was the strongest of the three services, it was still hard to disguise the fact that all of its combat ships were of the Great War Era. Only the soon to be commissioned HMAS Perth was likely to be built in the near future. If Australia was to survive in any future war this would need to be revamped and completely rebuilt. This would be the priority of the Lyons government.

The soon to be commissioned HMAS Perth was the only strengthening of the military considered in early 1936

The Airforce

ScreenShot4AirforceComparison.jpg

The Airforce was virtually non-existent and consisted entirely of just one division of extremely basic tactical bombers.

Research

The government also initiated a number of research projects to help supply the troops(Rear Area Supply Dumps) and to also improve the destroyers at the navy's disposal(Basic Destroyers).

Finally next time on Glory, Honour or Death - An Australian '36 AAR:

Some gameplay may actually be seen.

I may comment on any discussion.

Oh and the views expressed in this AAR are not actually those of the user and are just there to further the story

Hm, basic start, but I can smell the greatness.

I am going to follow this one eagerly.

Any suggestions then Baneslave? And can I just say that I was being rushed when I wrote that.

Nice overview, have you decided who you are going to join once the war starts?

Erm no idea. I may let my audience decide.

i personally hope you stay with the allies - i've never read a commonwealth aar.
is it worth building factories i wonder?
Good point Funky. There are very few straight Commonwealth AARs, always a 'twist' like going fascist, invading the US or some other variant.

Anyway; Good luck Kingy!

Pippy

General Idea Funky was to wait until I have upgraded my current forces and researched 'Basic Machine Tools' and then have a number of factories. Plus with my current IC, if I start building factories I can do nothing else.

El Pip:
Thanks

I am not sure if will stick to this format. I am not sure I can do it justice. Thoughts?

It has been my experience with a minor, Funky, that factory building isn't worth it unless you are close enough to the next tech slot that the building serves both purposes.

Ruddy

So going National Socialist and joining the Axis it is then Dury, Correct?

Or going Stalinist and joining the Comintern?

Well sounds like a good idea.
