The Lion of The Balkans: The BulgAARian Story

This is my first AAR and I'm playing as Bulgaria.

Chapter I


Many Bulgarian core provinces are occupied by our neighboring countries. The situation is intolerable
and we must therefore prepare for war to take what is ours!


We start industrialization and begin building a factories in Varna and Pleven.


Our first slider move will be towards hawk lobby to make factory building faster.


To achieve victory over our future enemies we can't fall behind in research. Atanas Burov started developing Basic Machine
Tools and Kazanlak State Military focused on Early Infantry Division.


The army of Bulgaria is yet small compared to our bigger neighbors but it's a good start.

Chapter II


Germany occupies Rhineland.


A coup happens in Greece.


Italy annexes Ethiopia.


We have researched Basic Machine Tools and start researching the improved ones.


The Spanish Civil War started


Research on Early Infantry Division is completed and Ivan Vulkov starts thinking how to improve our tactics.
(I chose Grand Battle Plan because Vulkov is a perfect match for that path. Too bad he's just skill 3)

I can't post the whole update at once, another post will follow.

The civil war isn't going well for the Nationalists.


We use all our money to improve relations with Germany. We hope we can ally them some day.


Roosevelt is re-elected


The British are fed up with their king and force him to abdicate.


After the new year's party those who could rise from bed gathered in a meeting to decide our politics for the year 1937.
Another slider move towards hawk lobby.


First of our new factories is ready. We start immediately building another one.

Hm... I think Bulgaria is one of those nations that could use an early expansion. Perhaps an alliance in the Balkans somewhere? With Romania against Yugoslavia, or with Yugoslavia against Romania, or all against Greece?

I think Yugoslavia is eager for war. You can always crush or betray them later on

I don't know if it would be vice to start an early war in the Balkans
and Yugoslavia and Romania don't want to ally me.

Or maby just Bulgaria in all the Balkan Area! Just wait until Barbarossa to expand in the area, then the allies and the ruskies will already be at war whit you, so tere should be no problem in that. And Italy will already be in youre alliance whit germany (if you are allied too him)

Interesting... will watch to see if you manage to reform Greater Bulgaria. And to see if the Soviet AI manages a miracle.

Bulgarian AAR... interesting. I hope you won't conquer everything you can, but reclaiming historical Buylgarian lands may be a good goal.

Okay, perhaps you could split Yugoslavia with Germany after the annexation of Austria?

Chapter III


Unfortunately for the industrialization of Bulgaria czar Boris III and the Head of Government Kioseivanov know nothing about
industry and therefore we can't use our full industrial capacity. Armaments Minister Gounev does his best to make sure they won't do too much harm.


We have finished the research of Improved Machine Tools and start developing Advanced Machine Tools


Ivan Vulkov has ended the development of Grand Battle Plan and focuses on Trench Warfare Doctrine


Another factory is completed and we start immediately to build another one.


Japan attacks China and USA offers the Chinese some assistance.


The Anti-Comintern Pact is signed between Germany, Italy and Japan.

The Spanish Civil War has become a stalemate.

Japanese soldiers slaughtered Chinese civilians in Nanjing, the capital of Nationalist China. Americans are horrified.


"What if our soldiers attacked in a mass?" Vulkov thought and started developing the Mass Assault Doctrine.

Chapter IV


After Advanced Machine Tools were finished our scientists started thinking ways to make our agriculture more effective.


Some Hungarian scientist decided to defect to Bulgaria and we sent a group of Japanese dressed in soldier's uniforms to welcome him (photo on the right side).
According to them the man ran straight back to Hungary but he dropped a blueprint for Census Tabulating Machine.


Romania had a coup.


Italy decided to influence us and our hawk lobby slider moved back to right so my last slider move was worthless! Thanks a lot Mussolini!


Stalin purges most of his highest ranking and most capable commanders. Is that man mad or something?


Germany annexes Austria.


Mass Assault Doctrine is finished.



Now we have as much IC as Yugoslavia.



Our Non-Aggression Pact with Turkey got out of date.

The research of Mechanised Agriculture is finished. Kazanlak State Military starts developing Basic Infantry Division.


Nationalist front in the south collapses


Italy influenced us again and moved us towards standing army. Because of this I might forgive them what happened last time.


We got a breakthrough in the research of Basic Infantry division. Yay!
