    Napoleon Dev-diary #2 - 23th of May 2007

Well it is Wednesday so that can only mean another dev diary. So let’s tell you about some the cool things we have been adding to EU3 for our Napoleon Expansion.

One thing that has not been as easy at is could be in EU3 is building buildings. For the moment when you have to build a workshop, first you have to go the ledger page about provinces, find the province with the highest tax value. After you have found that province then you can either go to another page where you can build the workshop or go to the province in the main screen and build it there. Either way you really want something like this to be simple. So how have we solved the problem? The answer is a new better ledger page.

Here you can select which building you want to build by clicking on the corresponding picture. Then the provinces where this building can be built also supply the relevant information for that particular building. So you always have the information you need to make the choices on where to build. Then it is a simple matter of click in the row to build the building.

We have added another a little bit of extra information onto the trade map.Now you can see what resource a province produces and if there is amanufactory there. You are probably thinking to yourself, is this a big change?

Well we think so. Now you can see which provinces have the high value products, perfect for deciding where to colonise. It also makes building manufactories a lot easier. You can see at an instant what province would be good for a type of manufactory but also if there is one there. So if you have the money, you don't have to waste the time.

Note that the ledger feature was never in EU2, though it would have been really nice.

Could you make it possible again to send a colonist to a province by right click->send colonist? Pleease?

Right now the process goes: "click on a province->wait 1/4 second for the colony window to show up->click on send colonist button->close colony window->repeat for next province", when "right click->send" would be just so much better.

In fact, getting all the EU2 right click shortcuts back would be splendid. I have no idea why those where cut.

I'd like to see the base tax on that page instead of or in addition to the net tax; best would be the base tax and the total tax modifier for the province. You might want to see production values instead of tax when building marketplaces and goods type when building manufactories.

    EDIT:

This hopefully means the idea in my second sentence is already planned. I'd like to see total tax modifier and total census tax modifier when building workshops and base tax when building constables and customs houses in that case.

I love that the trade map is back Is it possible to click on for example Chinaware and see every province that produces chinaware? Then it would be exactly as in Eu2

I think I have great idea. Very great but very hard. Can you make "modable ledger"? So anyone can see anything he need in any form.
P.S. It could be used in other games later.
P.P.S. It's hard for me to be DB programmer... and not be able to "create views"...
P.P.P.S. Better add tax to current "build page" - I don't want to click(or focus) on every row to see what was built already.
P.P.P.P.S. Is it possible to add province tax value to map?

I think there is a lot of scope for improvements in the Ledger. Not because it is bad, but simply due to the many ways one can slice and dice the huge amounts of data involved. It wouldn't surprise me at all if Paradox had other Ledger enhancements in store.

In EU2 I think that provincal goods data was actually on what was called the Economic Map. At any rate, it will be handy to have that info available again. One question tho. In the map example that Johan provided, I can see goods such as Fish, Iron, Grain, Chinaware, etc. But what does a province like Yunnan make? It seems like there is just a building there. Same with Luang Prabang. And Xishuan Banna.

If you have problems with getting into Personal Unions in EUIII, adopt "keep your %@#$ in your pants" policy with regards to Royal marriages.

God no. I'd prefer not to have my CPU and RAM doing work that the graphics card is more than capable of handling.

Another feature that was in EUII and should be in EUIII as we speak, and one new neat one, but that hardly is worth paying for and doesn't come close to contributing to compensate for a jusifying Nappy game not to be made.
Snake IV used to be a regular, but not anymore. You might, however, come across him at rare occasions, but that is so seldom you'll manage.

Eh... EU2 ran a lot faster than EU3. And it's fair to assume that a fair part of that is to blame on the EU3 3D.

    I welcome the new map.

However, in EU2, one of the things I liked most about the economic map was that it was shaded by province value - so at a glance I knew that Venice was rich and Ragusa poor. I don't know coding, but it seems like this would be simple to add...
