A small question about the right Greek army name.

What should it be?

Stratos = army? (like in the .inc files)
Lóchos = ??? (What does it mean?, like in the armynames.csv)
Soma Stratou (Σώμα Στρατού) = army corps? (I hope it's the right transcription)

Stratos=army or legion
Lochos=a group of soldiers (i think a division consist of many Lochos)
Soma Stratou =army corps (mechanized,armored,engineers e.t.c )

also

Merarxia = division

The names of the Greek army in the game look like they were translated by altavista...

Here is what I use:

Geniko Epiteleio Stratou=Army General Staff
Omada Stration=Army group
Stratia=Army
Soma Stratou=Army Corps
Merarchia=Division
Taxiarchia=Brigade

Tethorakismeni Merarhia=Armoured Division
Merarhia Ippikou=cavalry Division
Aerometaferomeni Merarhia=Airborne Division
Ethnofelaki=National Guards

Helliniko Basiliko Nautiko=Hellenic Royal Navy
Helliniki Basiliki Aeroporia=Hellenic Royal Airforce

P.S. Lochos=Platoon, hence it has no place in the game.

A "lochos" is a "company", consisting of approximately 100 men. A "platoon" is a "dimoiria" consisting of about 30 men, or not? Anyway, good to see a compatriot in the forum! ;)

In my recent game palying Germany I annexed Greece. I noticed Greece hasen't got any millitary leaders!!!
I play vanilla Armageddon with all official patches, is there a unoffical patch with Greek officeres?

Fixed. I am not 100% certain this is how each and every of them is called in Greek, because I am not the most knowledgeable person about military terminology, but at least the Greek is correct now. :)

P.S. "Aeroporia Paralirima Omada" :eek: :rofl:

"Paralirima" means "delirium", was that a joke of the translator? :p

Probably I had copied the wrong word.

Thanks man.

What do you mean? That you liberated them and they don't have any leaders? Then you ran into the infamous liberation bug. The only thing there is to do about it is annex - save - reload - liberate.

I was looking around for this information earlier, and found some more info:

The modern Greek military has an amphibious (i.e. marine) unit, the 13th Amphibious Commando Regiment: which is Syntagma (regiment) Amphibion Katadromon. So a hypothetical WWII Greek marine division could be a Mararhia Amphibion Katadromon.

In my games I call any Greek mountain divisions "Evzonen", after the historical name they gave some of their light infantry regiments (IIRC).

The Greeks use Greek letters (doh!) for numbering their corps, and Roman numbers for numbering their divisions. So "first army corps" is "Alpha Soma Stratou" and "first infantry division" is "I Merarhia Pezikou".

I was surprised to find that Wikipedia has an article on the modern Greek army!
