What do you guys think about posting screenshots in a narrative AAR? Do you think it takes away from the story? Or does it enchance it and make people want to read it more? Feedback would be wonderful,
Thanks

It's fun to see how the story interacts with the game. I am biased however, having done what you describe myself . .. then again, not many people read that AAR, so maybe you shouldn't take my advice.![]()
I think they can be ok in small amounts, otherwise they can take away from the character of the story.

Game screeines are good in small amounts, and normal pics are always good.

..in small amounts. As DoW says, you want it to ENHANCE the story, not take it over.

How about an AAR of screenshots only?! Was that done before?!
The only thing I can think of that hasn't been said is that I believe it's easy for a narrative AAR writer to eventually include screenshots later on as an added bonus because then it can be separated from the AAR at will . However , this obviously would be more difficult from going from a picturesque AAR with minimal narration to a more character/narrative driven one . I think either form is excellent and it's that diversity that helps keep AARland vibrant and gives a plethora of authors a chance to exhibit their particular styles . I don't think there's a question of which one is more popular these days though .

In most of my AARs, which tend to be narrative based, the screenshots are included at the end to avoid any detraction.
In my current AAR, screenshots are occasionally inserted in the middle, but the source of the shots is from the story itself.

It all depends on what the writer wants to do. I've done narrative AARs with absolutely no screenies. And some that have a few. It really depends on whether the screenies truly enhance the story or detracts from it...

I think if you are writing and then have a small screenshot that fits thats fine. If you are writing the story to fit the screenshot or aiming to have a screenshot included then its probably not so appropriate in a narrative. Not that there's really any line it's pretty hazy and down to personal opinion as to whether it would be ok or not. If they were in every update I think that would be too much also.

Its not a necessity to put a screenshot into a narrative, but if it helps the reader to get a better idea of the situation, then by all means, put it in. In the end, its all about clarity.
