Ten: Reign of Jean VI (1590-??)

During the autumn of 1586, many areas in Gaza were cleared and drained to provide new areas for settlement. These newly cleared areas often led to a short-term population boom. In winter, the construction of roads and trade routes on the island of Rhodes has had a great impact on the Twin Kingdoms’ economy. It has allowed Jacques to increase trade and thereby generate a higher tax income. A year later, three Regimental camps were built in Jerusalem, Gaza and Beirut. On 8th June 1590, Jacques III died. Jean VI became next Emperor-King.
Jean VI got same fear concerning Qara Koyunlu so he ordered more regimental camps to be built on Islands as well.
While sending lot of gifts to Electors to Jean’s son’s chance of becoming next Emperor, with the large scale use of gunpowder weapons on Eastern European battlefield. New units began to take advantages of these. Having its origins in Jerusalem, it evolved into musket armed units that placed their main focus on the attack rather than defenses. Jean saw this new prospect to improve the Twin Kingdom’s victory over her enemies, so he ordered his armies on mainland to be doubled with offensive musketeers.
Meanwhile, to ensure peaceful existence of his Islands, he gave more powers to merchants. By the end of June 1594, each Royal Army comprised of 4,000 Spahi Cavalry recruited from three Islands and 4,000 Offensive Eastern Musketeers recruited from basing province of the Army. To ensure his fleet is capable of carrying them, he ordered four more Flytes and four Galleons to replace great ships.
He also sent merchants to Kutch in Mughal Empire, Guangzhou and Jizhou in Ming China, Hormuz in Timurid Empire and Settsu in Japan. On 1st January 1599, Jean made ready for war. Royal Army of Cyprus led by Jean VI, Crete by Constable Nomiki Rendis and Rhodes by Marshal Lavrentios Saracerio. The Royal fleet contained 4 Galleons and 8 Flytes whom are led by Admiral Heliodoros Plethion.
Army of Rhodes marched to southern border at Gaza while Jean and his army boarded his recently expanded fleet and sailed to Bay of Alexandria. On 1st of April 1599, The Twin Kingdoms declared war upon the Mamluks in holy Crusade to recover the patriarchate of Alexandria and coastal lands between Alexandria and Gaza.
