It Will All be Over by Christmas

I have organised a World War One multiplayer game over the last week or two with some mates over @ Blood & Iron. This game is scheduled to take place during the Christmas period, beginning on the 29th December.

The details of this game can be found here but for those of you who are not interested to read there, I shall briefly synopsise the situation;

We are all using V:R with 2.01 patch and the latest OHgamer hotfix. We shall also use a mod to lower naval shore bombardment, which could ruin a game.

We shall play on Normal/Normal difficulty, since there is no need to tinker with the AI aggressiveness/game difficulty.

Below the AAR shall begin. Since this shall be a collaborative AAR, there may be a problem with keeping this AAR updated with diligence. However hopefully there will be enough effort made by the above players to ensure that this is an enjoyable read.

Kingdom of Serbia - Prelude to war

The Kingdom of Serbia has been an independent state ever since 1882. Since then it has fought off various attempts by the Ottoman Empire and Austria-Hungary especially to ensure its sovereignty. This has resulted in many wars which have been overlooked by the Great Powers of Europe.
The Kingdom of Serbia has ever since its independence strived towards uniting the Serbian peoples of the Balkans, who for too long have faced suppression by Turkish and Austrian overlords. Now the time has come, when our sovereignty has once again come under threat.

On the 28th June, Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assasinated in Sarajevo, by a 'Young Bosnia' terrorist. This was greatly upsetting in Vienna, but also in Belgrade. Nevertheless, Franz Joseph I of Austria-Hungary has been able to place all the blame on the nation of Serbia and thus sent an ultimatum of war on July 23rd 1914. This ultimatum was thus answered by our great nation promptly, on all but one condition, which would have been an infringement on our sovereignty. We have pleaded with the Austrians, anxiously trying to convince them that we had no part in the assasination and have tried to co-operate as fully as is possible for our small nation.

Our response has however fallen on deaf ears it seems, as the Austrian-Hungarian ambassador has been recalled to Vienna. It seems war is inevitable now for the Kingdom of Serbia. We are now faced with a full-scale European war, since Germany has already shown its readyiness to aid Austria-Hungary in a war on us. However we do have a faithful ally in our midsts, since Russia has already shown it is ready to go to war if Austria-Hungary should threaten our borders. Meanwhile the Serbian army has been mobilized.

Radomir Putnik has been called out of retirement and treatment for a long illness to organise and lead the Serbian army in its time of need. So great is his task, that he has had to escape arrest from the Austrians, where he has been called from, whilst in a health spa. Luckily he was seen as little threat by the authorities in Budapest and has thus made his way to Belgrade.

The Serbian army is small and lacking many necessities an army usally can rely on. However, the pride and passion of the soldiers is one thing the Austrians can and will underestimate as they attempt to destroy our fine nation. Numbering only 100,000 men, at best 200,000 upon full mobilization the Serbian army faces a difficult task of repelling an Austrian offensive. Its survival will rely heavily upon the experience and abilites of Putnik, who will need all his wits about him, to maintain morale and organisation amongst the divisions.

Let it be known, that even though the Austrians and Germans may argue this war has been brought among them by our ills and wrongs, we will vehemently stand up for our freedom and for the right to protest that this is infact a war brought upon by them. This war is nothing but a result of the arms race catalysed by the nation of Germany and their Austrian cousins. The Serbian people know the truth and they shall fight for the truth!

Rossiyskaya Imperiya: road to war

Russia is an old country. One of the oldest that still stands. Standing between Europe and Asia Russian people have seen many invaders come and go. In each case Russia eventualy prevailed. Russia is strong and ruthless in war. Just ask Napoleon. As Russia is a vast country with many riches it has meant to wage war and as most powerfull Slavic country it has cause to wage war. Now it seems that once again Russia must go to war..


The Romanovs

As largest Slavic nation Russia feels obligation to help less fortunate slavic people. To increase peace and stability Russia has been advocate of united Slavic nation in Balkans. In past time the biggest obstacle for this has been Ottoman Empire. Now they have been defeated and humiliated by Russia, but now it is just like the Tsar has foreseen. Once again poor Slavs are being humiliated by Austria-Hungary and their ally Germany.

Events of june 28th eventualy led to Russian full scale mobilisation. Just as Tsar had foreseen Germany intervened and issued an ultimatum to Russia in july 30th. Russia must halt mobilisation in 12h. Tsar refused and one event led to another and now Russia finds itself fighting alongside other entente powers for greater good. We hope that this war will end before christmas.

The German Empire was proclaimed under Prussian leadership in January of 1871, in Versailles, after a succesful campaign against the French.

In 43 years, Germany has become the leading industrial power of the world, only matched by the United States of America, and German products and inventions are in use all over the globe. Germany's navies and armies have grown to reflect her economic might.



And now, the treacherous Serbians have forced our ally, Austria-Hungary, to war.

In light of the recent events, especially the Russian general mobilisation order issued on July 30, the German Empire demanded that the Russian Empire stand down and halt the mobilisation within 12 hours. Russians decided not to answer, and the German ambassador to St. Petersburg was forced to declare war on August 1.

On August 2, German forces occupied Luxemburg. Germany will relinquish control over Luxemburg as soon as this crisis is over. By August 4, Germany is at war with Belgium, as the Belgians refused free passage to German troops. The German Empire recognizes that the invasions of Luxemburg and Belgium are in violation of international law, but the Empire is in a state of necessity, and as the German Chancellor Hollweg commented over the matter, "necessity knows no law".

On August 4, the British Empire declared war on Germany. Kaiser and the Chancellor are astonished by this, but expect Britain to come to its senses after France submits.



As of August 4, 1914, a general mobilisation has been ordered in Germany. Germany stands ready to assist Austria-Hungary in her quest for justice in the Balkans.

The United States of America

By the 1900s, the United States of America had emerged as a rapidly growing, successful and colonial nation. Attracting tens of thousands of immigrants per year. Following the progressive years, America had become a prosperous nation, safe from the dangers of an unstable Europe.

Woodrow Wilson, Democrat, was elected 28th President of the United States of America in the free democratic elections of 1912. Wilson successfully passed the Federal Reserve Act, and the Revenue Act 1913, both greatly helped the American economy. Following the outbreak of war in Europe, he followed a plan of isolationism, bringing him under fire from the opposition, he successfully defended his position.

Fellow Americans, my countrymen,

Following the declaration of war in Europe in 1914, America will follow a strict policy of isolationism. America has no interest in the affairs of what does not concern her.

America is a complicated nation, we have a mix of all nationalities. Many citizens of our great nation, while not wishing to participate, have expressed their favour of the Entente powers in the face of Austrian agression, while that is so, our large Germanic and Irish populations strongly oppose any and all support of the nations of France and Britain.

We hope that this war will be a short and honourable war, and wish all participants resolve this quickly, with the least amount of bloodshed possible. A swift return to normality and stability will be welcomed, but until then this is not America's war.

On Augest 3rd 1914 Germany issued a declaration of war against France, and the following day German troops entered Belguim, violating there neutrality in an attempt to out flank us and capture Paris.

In result to this, the French government has ordered a general mobilization to halt the German advance. Are grand aim is to retake alace-lorraine which was lost to the Prussians in the war of 1870 and to become the leading power of Europe.

The Ottoman Empire's alliance to Germany is unbreakable. Our eternal empire will never bow to British and Russian imperialism. We have faced Russian meddling already in the Balkans and we are now ready to punish all who steal away pieces of our glorious empire. The Balkan Wars have only strengthened our resolve. We will continue to fight the enemies that surround our empire while destroying those who fight us within.

The Kingdom of Italy was founded upon the ruins of Austrian tyranny! Whether Italy's foreign policy will continue to oppose the oppression of innocent Italians within the Austrian sphere or whether it will make daring new turns is still a mystery. Italy's neutrality can only last for so long, but it's armies are effectively up for grabs. Despite the Italy's earlier membership to the Triple Alliance (alongside Germany and Austria), the French have begun to lure members of the Italian government through promises of Austrian land. At the same time, Nizza and Aosta are yearning to be reunited with their motherland. What will Italy choose? Aside from these issues of nationalism there is also the question of colonies. Italy desires to expand it's influence in Africa, particularly the Horn of Africa. Somaliland and Eritrea are not enough for a kingdom as great and proud as Italy!

Italy's head of state is currently Vittorio Emmanuel III rules Italy and her possessions with a firm, but kind hand.

The Chief of Staff of the Italian Army is currently Luigi Cardorna.
