The ancient Mare Nostrum was the mediterranean; but the modern Mare Nostrum must be the whole ocean. Rome cannot be afraid to sail in part of its future Mare Nostrum, the Atlantic.

Hehe, very true. I would do it because (I believe) france gets 20 off map IC and can build a pretty decent army in one province unless you get rid of them quick.

Ugh, so green. Good job, I hope you can conquer more places in future.

IMO the green color in HSR is better than the one in Vanilla though ;)

Hm, Operation Atlantis eh? Lets hope no eartquakes will trouble you now then, history after all often repeats itself :p

November 6th, 1944

Everything is ready, 17 ships, the best one of the Regia Marina set sail from Casablanca to Cayenne. The Operazione Atlantis have begin!!

However, our battle fleet range only allow it to go a little further from the Cap Verde Islands, after this, the transports are for their own, until the Delta of the Amazon River. The troops embarked into them are experienced and modern Infantry divisions, with brigades attached. You can see bellow the route of both fleets.

Transports Fleet route

November 9th, 1944

After three days of navigation, in the shores of the La Palma Island, The Regia Marina finds a British anti-submarine standard fleet:a Light Cruiser and a Destroyer. Our superior fleet immediately sank the CL and the Destroyer. Unhappyly to the Germans, we can't risk our mission trying to sank the ships that are sinking their subs..

However, in the next day..

The entire British Home Fleet reaches the area and starts to damage our top-line Battleships, the RM Littorio and the RM Vittorio Veneto.

After some hours of heavy engagements the Grand Admiral Denzi Amareti decides, together with Admiral Ghé, to take a risked decision, even withou Il Duce's knowledge: To Split the fleet into two. One, the battle fleet will withdraw from the Atlantic to the Mare Nostrum, fleeing from the British Home Fleet until Gibraltar. Meanwhile, the transport fleet would go, without escort, from the Canaries to the French Cayenne, where it would land the three divisions responsible for the invasion.

It seems like the German approach have convinced the Tannu Tuva Republic to join forces with the Soviets.. No "Great Moment" at all to the Soviets as the Germans are in the Mongolian border already..

Not even the annexation of Tannu Tuva made him happy..

In the same day, we can see that both fleets have escaped from the British and are under way to its destines.

November 15th, 1944

We finally reach Cayenne!! The city is unguarded!! We quickly begin the disembark, that will take two days..

What if the British Home Fleet reach our unguarded transports?

Will Operazione Atlantis fail??

However, in the next day, 28 hours before our troops reach Cayenne, it happens..
The British reach our transports after pursue our battle Fleet until Gibraltar (without any significant damage).

16 Capital Ships against 3 transports in 28 hours..

..it's the end of the journey??

It's not just fear, it's a strategic thinking.

The Atlantic was, in the past years, just a desnecessary risk, but now..

That's true. Actually, they did the same in Gabon since 1940, and now, I have to fight against 40 "ghost divisions" to proceed in the conquer of Africa..

Or not my friend, sometimes the history opposes itself. We all will see.

There might be some troops in French Guyana, make sure you attack with Marines.
I don't have Marines. I've never needed them.

Hmpf the AI's use of "no fog" certainly stings hard at times :(

Oh yes, that is so true...<shudders at the memories>...I lost a complete (and loaded) amphibious fleet (9xDD/9xTP) to that trick...twice.

Very true: I once lost all my elite panzers (veterans of whole damn war) because AI decided to attack my transportfleet when it was crossing the damned English Channel. I had occupied England and I was transporting troops to home, but that damned BB-fleet come from somewhere and sunk my fleet in two hours.

I once lost 6 Divisions of Infantry all with an AT or arty attachment to a german fleet that came out of nowhere and somehow slipped past the blocading Home and Med fllets.

This is the worst bonus (for us) that the AI has, I completely disagree with it.

Even worse is the fact that the AI has unlimited range.
Truth??
I didn't know it!!

That part sucks. So does the use of nofog. As france, I had my strongest six division army ready to invade Japan and while i was getting them to taiwan, their whole navy jumped me and destroyed all but one transport. De Gaulle wasn't too happy about that...

I think unlimited range is only available to the AI on the higher difficulties.
Good AAR by the way.
