Going For the Big Bucks

For the time being all wars we fight will be about building up the Belgian economy. So we might as well start at the top, and go after the UK

There are two keys to bringing down the UK
1. Use the numerous British satellites to drive up the war score against Britain
2. Make use of your navy early on, while the Royal navy is still disorganized.

During times of peace the British AI reduces naval spending. This in turn reduces the strength of all British ships to 10. Once war starts the AI raises naval spending, but must keep its fleets in port until they regain their strength. This is the time to attack.

My new navy consists of 3 transport fleets, and 1 battle fleet. I will sail one transport fleet (with a cavalry army) to the coast of Greece to make an amphibious landing against the Ionian Islands, and another transport fleet will land troops in England itself. The battle fleet will provide cover for the transports operating in the North Sea.

The war begins on February 11, 1846.

The two landings go off without a hitch, and the Belgian fleet is returned to port.

The capital of the Ionian Islands falls to the Belgians, thus driving up the war score by 20 points. Once London falls, the war score will be over 40. War indemnities cost 25 points.

The next stop is London which is only defended by two measly divisions. Meanwhile the British have landed troops on the Belgian coast.

London fell in short order, and for the next couple of months I continually pestered the British for a peace that included nothing but war indemnities. Each offering was rebuffed, and then the British fired back with a blow that hit below the belt.

The peace offering would include British Guyana, British holdings on the Malaysian peninsula, British lands in Burma, as well as the Indian border provinces. A very tempting peace deal.

i would say stick to your original plan

I say try to stabalize economy. Take as much of the industrial heartland as you can

Trying to Improve the Economy...

The king deliberated long and hard as to whether or not he should accept land from the British, or demand indemnities. In the end he decided he wanted both…

Peace was accepted with the British on their terms, and the next day war was declared on the British while the Belgian troops were still in Britain. This of course gave Belgium a huge prestige hit.

However the importance of having those troops in position cannot be overstated as the Belgians in short order had regained control of London, and the Ionian capital.

This time the British were much quicker to accept peace, and soon the British money would be pouring in.

Next on the agenda was Russia, and so the troops in England were loaded on their transports, and with the Belgian Battle Fleet providing escort, they sailed to St. Petersburg. The war began on August 6,1846

It was a relatively simple plan. Land at St Petersburg, and continue to capture provinces until the Russians accept your peace deal.

Militarily speaking things went quite easily, and the Russians were much quicker than the British to accept a reasonable peace deal.

That is great but your badboy must be absolutely Huge

by the way Great AAR keep going can't wait for next update

you know I haven't checked my bad boy in quite a while, I bet it is pretty huge. In general I don't worry about my bad boy score as much as I concentrate on making sure I can win any potential bad boy wars.

wonderful.

have to see how this goes, it is a most useful guide for the victorian newbie

Some More Work on the Economy

Having the Russians and British making monthly contributions certainly helped the economy, so I did the logical thing to do at this stage, I over spent.

I bought a few more factories to help supply some of my upper end factories. I am doing something unusual for me and am concentrating on the armaments supply chain. (small arms, artillery, explosives, ammunition and fertilizer). I don’t know if this will pay off, but right now my most productive factory is a small arms factory, so I thought I would give it a try. I’m also focusing on the clothing line, and steel factories.

Most of the money I spent went towards building the rail industry. I basically laid railroads throughout all of my European provinces, and built my state capitals up to a level two. (I am at present researching level 3 RR). My hope is that railroads and capitalist will make my industries profitable enough to support my oversized armies.

Of course I may have overspent…

The British/Russian indemnities are giving me around 20,000 to 30,000 a month meaning I am at best breaking even. This had better pay off. In the mean time I need to find more revenue sources.

I think you should admit now not to be able to handle economy on world conquests. ;)

At least the last moves were more of something new, the wars with France looked exactly the same as your early wars with Russia in your Sweden AAR.

The next target will be the Germans.

I choose the Germans for several reasons.

1. They have factories already. It's always easier to conquor factories than it is to build them.
2. They have a lot of pops, especially the higher end pops, meaning more taxes
3. I'm tired of fighting the French
4. I can't stand that blue spot in the middle of my country
5. Attacking the German alliance is agreat way to build prestige (something I am in dire need of)

We decided to back after our old friends at Saxe -Coburg-Gotha. Prussia is no longer allied to them, so this will give me an opportunity to clean up some of the minors before I begin my occupation of the Rhienland

While I was motivated to do this AAR because of the lack of pics in the Swedish WC I really don't want it to be a repeat of Sweden. So from here on for a while everything I do will be based upon how it helps my economy. Event this invasion of Germany is designed to boost the economy (by gaining factories).

You'll see this more and more as we move along but I can tell you that things do get better economically. I have played ahead about ten years or so, and I have stopped the bleeding somewhat although I still haven't recovered yet.

I do believe it is possible but I need to really build up the industry to do it. Of course it cost money to build industry.

By the way CSK, congrats on winning fan of the week...

hmm it would be nice to see a WC with a balanced economy imo

then you shall have it my friend...

Just not quite yet

Well I have no idea how I ended up reading this, because I've never read a Vicky AAR before, but I must say I've enjoyed it immensly and will keep following.

I have people occassionaly complaining of how fast I update my AAR, but you are way out of my league Quirinius. Keep it up :D

So, being tired of the blue spot you start a war that will have no effect on it all :D

Well there is a method to my madness.

My goal is to take down the rest of the German states first, that way when I go after Prussia I will basically only have to deal with Prussia (oh yeah, and Austria)
