What's your biggest goof playing Hoi2? I just made my (Ge '36, 1.3, TRP) first one.

I wanted to make sure I had medium tanks before I invaded Russia. I have medium tanks alright, but medium tank brigades ... not medium tanks. Argh! So now I have all these brigades which I can't deploy and brigade technology that I don't need.

Now off to research that light *tank*.

I should have played Italy first....

Vitalix

Playing as Spain, i had northen africa in the bag. The USA could not do any landings on my territory cause i had all beaches covered and gibrultar was mine. Iliberation morroco and figured that the AI will defend thier capital, the USA moved in div, annexed them and they got all that land with ports and maved in 50 or so divs and i got kicked out of africa :(

Playing HSR and starting preparations for war: "Hey, those SS brigades have really great values. Let's put 10 serial runs of 99 SS to equip all my divisions which I will start building after some SS brigades are finished!"

Did they turn out to be submarines or did I just not get the goof?

1 SS brigade costs 25 MP... and they can't be attached to normal infantry. Not a good way to spend MP before building up any infantry division.

edit: they also cost 8 IC*155 days...

HSR DD, I spent Sept-April decimating the UK's merchant fleets a la blue emu's sub strategy. Then I annexed Norway, giving them 360 free convoys.

I didnt know about the anschluss and czech events, so i invaded czechoslovakia, poland declred war, bye bye berlin :(
twas me first game though.

My biggest goof:

I was ferrying some men across the med to Africa (I think I was SU) and figured "I'm not at war with any countries with access to the sea, why do I need escorts?"

My transports got sunk by the Tibetan Navy

Another big goof was when I was playing SU in MP, where me and my friend were both SU. Shortly after Barbarosse, I put him in charge of defense and troop movements on the front while I was doing some industrial and diplomatic stuff...

He managed to get 5 brand new T-34 divisions encircled and destroyed.

That would make a pretty good sig...

It's like having your loaded Paratroop Transports shot down by the Albanian Airforce...

Here's one that's just a complete mental collapse...but I was still kind of a newb, so don't laugh too hard. I was playing as National China and had massed my troops in the north and was pushing Japan back pretty quickly considering the territory. So there I sit, all proud of my efforts with my first minor country game and......well, who knew Japan could do amphibious landings??? :eek:o

declaring war, thinking that just because ussr was fighting germany in europe, they wouldn't smash through my 18 border guard divisions and that little puppet (forget their name) and take half of my mainland territory.

the things i'll do for blueprints!

I feel stupid now :(

Playing Italy, I think using the Historical Improvement Mod. Wanted to conquer the Med and points south and east and not get tied down in Europe. Unfortunately, the Russians had other ideas, and the Italian Army conducted a series of campaigns to save her Teutonic buddy. The first went well. The second went OK.

The third? It went a little like this:
1. I realize that Germany is getting spanked again.
2. I stat-redeploy my entire mobile army from Italy (where they were just about to make for India) to Danzig, well behind the German front line.
3. The Russians advance and, by the time my troops arrive, have pocketed Danzig and are actually conducting an attank on it.
4. My forces arrive. Stalin chuckles and commits more divs to the attack.
5. I lose. Not sure exactly how many divs got flushed away, but it was at least 40.

Not a whole lot Italy could do after that...

==================

Comrade Brian: How in the name of all that's insane did the Tibetans manage to build a navy in your game?

They didn't build it... they inherited it from someone who got annexed (I don't remember who, probably Italy or the UK), and I was still at war with them.

One of the funniest things ive ever read.

My biggest goof by far was attempting to ferry troops to Denamrk with the U.S. and ending up in Greenland, where my troops were annighalted by lack of supplies. I also lost 10 Divisions in one attack later near Denmark. Don't ask what I was trying. It was the first game where I attempted a large seaborne operation, so you can cut me some slack. I've made close to equal goofs, but the loss of ten divisions when I had maybe 20 in Denmark was a disaster.
