Hey All,

After seeing Dr. Rare's Sprites, and all the various additions that have been made to the game, I'd like to start a thread collecting links to all the files necessary for players to upgrade their HOI1 *beyond* the final release.

With some simple instructions and perhaps a sticky from the moderators, we should be able to make the process of tracking down these little tweaks a LOT easier.

Oh, and if you find that posts are looking 'cut off' at the bottom, that's a bug related to editing posts. To fix the problem, go to 'Quick Links' on the Message Board navigation bar, choose 'Edit Options', go to 'Thread Display Options', and set 'User Postbit' to 'Left'.

Contents:
======
For easy reference, click the bolded post number to jump to that post in this thread:

Essentials:
2 Links to previous official patches leading up to version 1.06c
9 Links to the 'Fix-it Yourself Pack'
11 Links to the 'no time limit patch'
12 Links to the 'no air stacking penalty patch'
13 Links to Sprite Packs
16 Links to Leader Picture Packs

Essential Mods:
3 Links to CORE version 0.90 and the 0.91 update (*****)
18 Links to the Super AI Bundle (****)
23 Links to the 'The Great War' WW1 HOI mod (*****)

Please Feel Free to Contribute. I'll post up links and make post number references above...

PS. Aside from the 1.06c patch, these links are NOT officially supported by Paradox Entertainment. These are user-created add-ons. If you experience unstable game play as a result of these patches, simply reinstall HOI.

Links to CORE version 0.90 and the 0.91 upgrade:
==================================

If you don't have CORE, or you have HOI1 Platinum, you need to install version 0.90 and then the v 0.91 update. Both files can be found at either of the following sites:

http://www.vojska.net/eng/games/hearts-of-iron/core/
http://home.exetel.com.au/wryun/

How to Install:
=========
Run corev09.exe to install version 0.90. Then run corev091.exe to upgrade to version 0.91.

What is CORE?
=========
CORE is a player-developed modifcation for HOI1 that adds a LOT of great gameplay features. It is still WW2, and is in many respects similar to standard (AKA 'vanilla') HOI, but with improved events, AI, and resource/IC layout.

There are many other good mods out there, but this one is a must-have for any player. Give it a try and you'll find out why it is the de facto standard for experienced HOI1 players.

Rare, would it be possible to create a single file .rar with all your existing HoI1 sprites (all 22 or so). And where is that site for the all-time sprite pack. Perhaps you could combine, or you could instruct people to install that first, and then yours overtop?

Please Feel Free to Contribute.

Nice idea for a thread CK:)
But there are 48 sprites available by me in my threads! :D Maybe you have not gone through all the pages yet.
The all time sprite pack is available at the stoney site homepage in the hoi1 downloads section of the site.It is a pack compiling most but not all of the sprites at the stoney site!It has all the sprites separate though to add one by one.There are auto download sprite packs but they conflict with each other and all have small errors and confine you to the pack makers decisions .Also some of the tank and plane sprites have different versions and some i think are just bad and the hoi originals better!I have a few not available there as well! :cool: !!??.So i think it is better to load them yourself checking that the stoney sprites work.All my sprites work fine.
My sprite project is ongoing so no Dr Rare Spritement Day The Trilogy Spritepack+extras .Also due to upload space available at the forum my pack would exceed my allowance i think as there are actually about 48 sprites by me in my 3 threads now.
My current work is a TGW mod sprite pack that will be in one pack i hope if i have space.
Maybe it would be nice to collate a list and check all the sprites and make a new all time pack i have considered it ,but i will only get round to it when current projects are finished.Trouble is project keeps spawning new ones.Next week i might release my new syrian/vichey sprites with kepis!!But i am still wanting one day to finish my core extension mod in which i am extending all the end dates of revolt,random event files etc to 1960 as i think the mod tech is fine to play the game to that date.

I said it before and i will say it again there is life in this old game still.....

This is a good link for modding game...

wryun,

Fantastic... The more mirrors the better! Thanks for hosting... Is the picture pack (PicPack.zip) included in version 1.06c or does it have to be loaded separately?

Rare,

Great links... Sifting through those forums can seem a bit daunting at first glance :)

The Fix-it-Yourself Pack:
=================

The 'Fix-it-Yourself' pack is an unofficial patch to version 1.06c compiled by jdrou in response to various small bugs that players have identified and fixed in the game.

The Fix-it-Yourself pack can be found at the following links:

http://home.exetel.com.au/wryun/

How to Install:
=========
Copy the contents of FixPack.zip into your HOI1 root directory.

What is it?:
=======
The 'Fix-it-Yourself' pack was compiled by jdrou and addresses a number of bugs (particularly in the game events) that still exist in version 1.06c. A complete changelog can be found here. Big thanks to the various people who helped jdrou put this together.

The No Time-Limit Patch
======================

Tired of 1947 creeping up on you and ruining a fun battle between the Allies and the Comintern? Try the no-time limit patch by DiegoV. However, be aware that all events will shut down after 1947.

This file can be downloaded at the following links:

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=686
http://www.users.on.net/~colin.hamwood/hoi2files/no_time_limit12.zip

How to Install:
=========
Extract to your HOI root directory. Run no_time_limit12.exe. Choose HOI.exe as the target file to patch. Choose your start and end dates.

What it is:
======
This patch works for HOI 1 and 2. It changes the start and end dates of the game to whatever you want. I wouldn't suggest setting the startdate earlier than 1936, but feel free to set whatever end date you want. I suggest and endate of 1953 or 1960. Be aware that events will stop firing after 1947.

Air-Stacking Penalty Fix:
=================

Version 1.06c included an air stacking penalty for human air forces larger than 4 squadrons. This patch eliminates this penalty so players can create stacks up to 12 (using a field marshall) without penalty. However, stacks beyond the command limit for a leader still experience penalties.

The no-air-stacking fix is courtesy of DivineShadow, and can be found here:

http://divineorder.no-ip.com/hoi16csp.zip

How to Install:
=========
Extract Air_stack_fix_hoi16csp.zip to your HOI root folder. Run Hoi2 (Stack Penalty).exe. It will patch your HOI.exe file.

What it is:
=======
In version 1.06c the universal air stacking penalty (which applied to any attack/defense by 4 or more air units) was lifted for the AI-controlled countries but not the human player. This was done to make the AI more challenging as it handled its air force poorly.

Some players (myself included) find this really annoying, particularly when playing CORE as it already has extra bonuses for AI-controlled air-units to accomodate for this.

Adding Sprites to Your HOI Game:
========================
The basic HOI sprite set, while good, can be spruced up considerably using user-developed sprites. Not only does this eliminate a lot of sprite re-use in the game (making things a bit bland), it also adds historical accuracy. Overall, this makes for a more eye-pleasing and more immersive gaming experience.

These sprites are currently available as separate files which must be installed individually...

These can be found on the stony road forum at these links:

A large collection of user-generated sprites:

Dr. Rare's New Sprites:

http://www.stonyroad.de/forum/showthread.php?t=5792
Dr. Rare's Latin American Militia:
http://www.stonyroad.de/forum/showthread.php?t=5803

How to Install:
=========
Individual files should have readme files with instructions. most files will likely ask you to extract the .zip or .rar to your root HOI directory. Sprites for minor countries may require you to change some .csv files in order to load properly (see the readme.txt for more info).

What is it:
======
'Sprites' are the animated in-game pictures of the units in HOI. They represent the unit movements and deployments on the map. Each file will contain sprite animations of units such as calvary, infantry, or tanks.

Anyone know how to make links directly to a posting. I've seen it done. People add an HTML anchor to their thread URLs to do it, but I don't know how they know which postid to put in their links.

Has to be loaded separately, I believe; it's included in CORE, but not 1.06c. Easy enough to check if you're keen :))), though - simply see what's in your folders after a clean install, or look for blank faces in the game.

Re linking, look at (available from the FAQ):

Or just click on the little button in the top right of a post ;)

Adding More Leader Pictures to Your HOI game:
=================================

Tired of all those strange silhouettes staring back at you when assigning leaders to your troops? Get the HOI Picture Pack!

It can be found at the following links:

http://home.exetel.com.au/wryun/picpack.zip

How to Install:
=========

Dowload the HOI Picture pack (PicPack.zip) and extract it to your HOI root directory. See readme file for more information.

What is it?
======

The HOI Picture Pack provides more leader pictures for the 'Vanilla' version of HOI. Some mods (eg. CORE) have additional leader picture files, but the standard version of the game often supplies blank silhouettes for missing leader profiles.

The picture pack provides more leaders to enrich your HOI experience.

Thanks wryun, helpful as always :)

I updated the Table of Contents so its now all clickety-pop goodness.

Links to the Super AI Bundle
=======================

Getting a bit bored with the predictability of the AI and events? Looking to play the game out to 1955 with proper events?

Check out the Super-AI bundle. An amazing mod from Lothos and the rest of the Super-AI crew. So good it can't be put into words ;). Best played with the no time limit patch set to 1955.

The final version of this mod, ver 1.3, can be downloaded here:

http://www.totalrealismproject.com/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1

How to Install:
=========
Run superaibundle-v1-3.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.

WARNING: Installation of the SuperAI bundle may effect your standard 'Vanilla' install of HOI.

What is it:
=======
The Super AI Bundle is a total conversion for HOI1 that improves all areas of gameplay. New IC layout, AI, events, etc, etc, etc.

Best used in conjunction with the no-time limit patch set to 1955.

I assume you're getting around to Stony Road and The Great War... you might also like to include the (unfinished) `The Cold War': http://www.tcw2.co.nr/ (go to FILES)

Wryun,

Thanks for the suggestions... I'll add those mods to the list soon. There are a lot of good ones out there. Unfortunately I've got a busy few weeks coming up. Moving is such a pain :rolleyes: .

Kurt,

I'm glad you're having fun with the Super AI pack (working on my first game as well). As gzav said, lets keep this particular thread focussed on links to files for patches and modifications. If you're looking to discuss the Super AI mod, go ahead and start a new thread if you'd like :)
