A Magic Land.
With a name like Árta (note the Á) you would expect it to be located in the land of the elves, or at least Ireland. But no it's apparently Greek or something.
And instead of being ruled by a centuries-old Elvish king counting the days until the uncouth humans intrude into his merry forest land with their machinery it is instead ruled by a two-thirds-of-a-century-old breakaway Byzantine duke counting the days until the uncouth Seljuks declare war on him and then annex his lands.
But he doesn't have to worry about Árta. The von Habsburgs will get there first.
And who knows maybe the Dyrrachions will get the rest? Hey at least they're a non-Seljuk independent Muslim power.
At this rate my army of anonymous commanders will be quite multicultural, indeed.
Meanwhile the Ártans succeed in defeating my army which is annoying because the hills means that the trip is two months long, one-way. Adding insult to injury the Ártans were actually moving away from Árta, presumably to Dyrrachion, which meant that if I told my troops to stay home a bit I could have walked into Árta unopposed.
Which is what's going to happen the second time around so here's Artois, which I grabbed before when the Duchess was excommunicated remember.
No opposition here either really as the Kingdom of Burgundy has been quite busy. But even if there were I do have a good deal of men in northwestern France.
And elfland is taken.
As well as Frenchland. Also, Neil of Atholl died.

Poor old Neil dying before you liberated Atholl - all those battles lost, but when you're a Hapsburg militarily-challenged progress is naturally slow.

This is Asas, under the independent Emirate of Edessa. I'm surprised it managed to last this long actually.
Of course any Muslim power that doesn't start with 'Sultanate' and end with 'Seljuk Turks' or 'Bolgar' isn't much of an obstacle at this point.
This is Ascalon, on the Levantine coast.
I'm not sure how the Al-Murabitids, on the other side of the map, managed to get a hold of it in the first place.

Of course the challenge in taking Asas isn't the battle, but the Medium Castle.

This is Asas, under the independent Emirate of Edessa. I'm surprised it managed to last this long actually.

So yeah I guess we're just biding our time until something exciting happens again. While battling independent or weak emirates are good for quick progress on the List, they don't make for very exciting fare. And this is Asturias de Oviedo, the seat of power of the mighty Kingdom of Leon, which stopped being mighty pretty soon into the game when Spain was overrun by the Muslims and then the English counterattacked and what you now see is this.
The province is now ruled by a Frenchy guy who is the direct vassal of the King of England, who became king only really recently being twenty and all.
And this explains the influx of de Cornouailles to my court as the de Forez have somehow managed to maneuver themselves onto the throne of Brittany.
Seriously there was a pretty big influx of new people to my court from out of nowhere, from which I was able to find some good advisors.
I also found a bunch of less capable people.
And from four of the rest I make new Counties, one to a de Cornouaille, one to an of Atholl, one to a Faliero, and, most proudly, the province of Ansbach to an of Ansbach! I think this is actually the first successful installment of an 'of ____' person to countship of said province. I also give two provinces away to my most disloyal vassals.
I was going to hunt down the provinces of the Burgundian king like the dogs they are for a lot of prestige and stuff but eh, I have bigger things on my plate now.

Giving a province away before I have it would be a neat trick. Sadly that will violate the rules of this AAR as that province will become part of my realm out of order.

Oh right we were at war with those guys. Also Wilhelm Mustafa. What a name. He even looks like a Wilhelm Mustafa.
Well anyway, off to war with my liege!
And as that leaves us open to having a new liege, off to Bohemia!
Taron accepts peace for 500 as making peace with small enemies starts to become my main source of income.

Of course remember that the Kingdom of England stretches from the mountains of Scotland to the tip of Gibraltar, and is undoubtedly the strongest Christian power in the game or something. A war against it will not consist of annexing its vassals and then going for a monetary peace.
And of course, it figures that I fight rebels for a month before starting the siege.
Those English armies, fighting in Medina, heed the call of the motherland and start heading back to England. Which they would do, if the Alfonso wasn't there.
