Ah, Crusader Kings. The red-headed stepchild of the Paradox Four, it is a game that really is set apart from the rest. For you control not a country, but a dynasty, always in flux. Also, the AI is very proactive in long-range overseas campaigns. And you can't play as about a third of the political entities on the map, despite that third containing some of the most awesome countries in the game.
And the game's not very difficult. Surprisingly undifficult, in fact. Even starting as a lone count, all one really needs to get bumped up to king is a little bit of luck and patience, waiting for a king to have an eligible daughter and few male heirs. I just became King of Georgia this morning. Really, with the ever-shifting dynasties and unpredictable political borders, with alliances dissolving at the death of a single man and crusades being called off for two bits, only to be redeclared three days later, the game does not lend itself well to exciting challenges such as leading the armies of Haile Selassie as Ethiopia in HOI2, or leading the armies of Menelik II as Ethiopia in Vicky, or leading the armies of Zara Yakob as Ethiopia in EU2. I suppose that I could play Nubia, or play with house rules that restrict things like marrying Icelandic women to my Balkan king and machinegunning an entire line of succession to death in one day. But both of those are boring, the first because it's not really Ethiopia, but Nubia, which is totally different trust me, and the second because such rules will be subjective and I'll still get a game that's too easy.
So what to do? Of course, I am an unrepentant genius, and was bound to come up with something, which I did. An idea that is really worthy of me. And that is to play the game by annexing every province on the map. A standard way to play, but for this game, I will attempt to do it alphabetically. And according to the following list of all provinces in alphabetical order, it would make much sense to do it as the County of Aargau, which I am. Normal/Normal because I couldn't be bothered to change the setting, 1066 Campaign, Crusader Kings 1.05 vanilla, as any other versions are for Cathars. You heard me.
