This will be an alternative history after action report about the nation of the Benelux (united Belgium and Netherlands).

Victoria Revolutions (latest update)
Very Hard/Very Hard AI... [oh boy!]
Belgium/Holland events modified Benelux...

The acutal writing will start soon. On a side-note, this is just a project to relief myself from teaching, raising a family, and writing on The Crown of Europe and another series of writings I have been doing. You can call this more of a fun project.

So lets sit back, enjoy, and comment all we want about the long road that lays ahead for my country of choice!

I once worked out in my head but never followed through with writing a Netherlands AAR in which the countrry never split.

I like the title

We Are Not a Road, We Are a Country!

We, the nation of the Benelux are not a road, we are a country of seventeen million people. Perhaps if we keep telling the world we are a country, they will believe us and respect our rights. But we doubt it anytime soon, we are stuck in between the militaristic Prussia and the once defeated France, who has regained their monarchy after the exile of Napoleon in 1815.

With the collapse of Napoleon, we, the road - err country - found ourselves free from the Frogs who always crossed our roads. With the roadsters thrown out, the British proclaimed us a free nation under their guarentee. They were sea fellow, and did not see the value of quality and our expertise in travel.

And thus, we a new nation were created upon the face of Europe, a continent divided by a balance of power. At the moment, we are not a regional power, surronded by bitter nations waiting for the right moment to strike. To them are nothing but a road, a quicker and less-defended path to their desires of conquest. But to us, we are a country who shall rise to the occasion in the most dire moments.

Any chance of changing that abrasive yellow to soothing a little more soothing?

Looks good so far. Expansion is going to be difficult, but possibly allying with Prussia and hitting France fairly early for those nearby iron and coal provinces could be a good idea.

What kind of color do you suggest?

I vote for abrasive yellow! Teach those French and Prussians to respect you by turning everything an abrasive yellow! That can be your motto:

"We Are Not a Road:
We're Your Eyes' Worst Nightmare."

A motto that will surely strike fear into the heart of your enemies. ;)

Good luck with Benelux. You could use either Belgium's or Hollands vanilla colors, unless you're trying to go or something different.

Looks like it could be a very interesting journey.

As to matters of colour, I entirely concur with the position so ably expressed by CatKnight.

Honestly the two things came into mind were, a Benelux aar should be very interesting, and ugh I do hope he does something about that yellow. :p

Regardless of your decision I will be watching this AAR, now on with the show.

We Are Not a Road, We Are a Country!

We are a unique nation, it is a fact that we pride ourselves on. Stuck between two nations we fear for our lives disperse onto transport; especially when an enemy army comes. There is a joke amongst our people, it goes:

"Why does the Frog cross the road?"
"It's on the way to Paris."

Our humor is plentiful and waffles unmatched, world-reknowned infact. We are the Benelux, and we should get to business.

We think we have a king, but we aren't really sure where he [or she] resides. Brussels seems like a logical choice, since it is our capital and has the highest level of transportation available. However, with the construction of the Waffle Express between Brussels and Amsterdam, our king may be in the latter of cities. Again, we aren't really sure.

The latest development in transportation is expected to be completed in July, when syrup shall run down the streets, not because it can, but because it is rather warm outside. And in this unbearable sight, we shall force the workers to begin new construction on additional rails!

One would expect our people to be unhappy about this treatment, forced eatting of waffles and maple syrup, but it's rather tastey. Though we do face a rebellion, far across the ocean, in our overseas colonies. It took awhile to remember that somebody told us that we had a navy. We do, a fleet of ships, along with transports, haven been dispatched to handle the current situtation.

The mission of the lone division, besides crushing the rebels into a grounded wheat, is to bring back much needed supplies, such as strawberries and other fruity necessities. Our people demand waffles with fruit-galore! It is a speciality. Come to think of it, our foreign guests have never had them...

...we need to change our tactics, policy and hospitality towards our guests.

I was always partial to Dutch orange, but I also find that Bavarian Blue color rather soothing.

Oh, and the empire of the waffle will expand!

I also read somewhere that isn't another of the Benelux's notable exports the flowers for half of Europe?

I know about 200 years before this AAR there was the Tulip mania in the Neatherlands where the ecnomy burst over the flower. I would love to be force fed waffles and syrup adding fruit would just increase the pleasure.

Oh and for me, both the Orange Neatherlands and the Maroon Belgium were both pleasent.

Well, one does need fruit with their waffles. ;)

A very interesting start and an intriguing country to play. I'll be watching this one.
