Wonderful! If everybody who has said they'll take a nation actually shows, we'll have a full roster! This is great! We play with 1.04, right enough, plus extras linked here, where you can also find the latest save if you want to take a look around. In fact, let me just update my sig while I'm at it.
Well if the game is at 6:00 PM I can probably play for about 2 to 3 hours, maybe 4 if I am lucky. Do the pics that you have show the 1836 start?

Nah, those are 1849, after the first session. Our usual game time is 4 hours, so you should be ok.

Popular books and plays of 1849:

  • The Bower and the Bride, Henrik Knudsson, first performed at the Norwegian Theater in Bergen. A light-hearted comedy dealing with the attempts of a stril, Jørgen Klensmann, to join the Ynglings in spite of the increasingly ridiculous objections thrown up by the Inspector of Soldiers, Bjarte Erikson. It is worth noting that at this time the old law of permitting soldiers with their time expired to marry into the Ynglings had fallen almost completely into disuse, being hedged about with regulations, exceptions, and red tape. The play can thus be seen as somewhat socially critical, since the audience's sympathy is clearly intended to be with Jørgen. Though mild compared to the author's later works, the play nonetheless catapulted him into national prominence, and he became an icon of the Liberal faction among the Ynglings. The title of the play turns on Jørgen's inability to pronounce the letter 'p', which leads to several comic misunderstandings.
  • Harald i Jungelen (Harald in the Jungle), Inge Ingesson, Nidaros Forlag. Children's adventure. Harald is the child of a plantation owner in Cambodia, who is kidnapped and held for ransom by a rebellious jungle tribe. Through wit, charm, and Yngling military training, Harald becomes the leader of the tribe, and leads them in raids on other rebel groups, culminating in saving his father's plantation from an attack by several hundred natives.
  • The Will to Power, Marie Gunnarsdottir, Bergenhus University Press. Philosophy; draws on examples from the natural world to show the right of the strong to rule. Contains strong attacks on Christianity, especially the New Testament; immediately banned in every nation except Norway and China. Strong emphasis on self-determination, and the ability of men to become, rather than be born as, natural rulers.
  • Elbe to Vistula, Yngve Jonsson, Bergenhus University Press. The second volume of the author's monumental biography of Hans Olafsson, the Norwegian general during the Spanish War. Deals with the Polish campaign, where Olafsson first demonstrated his tactical brilliance.
  • African Queen, Fredrik Naldorsson (pseudonym; real author unknown), Nidaros Forlag. Semi-pornographic account of garrison life in the African colonies; graphic depictions of skirmishes with rebellious tribesmen, as well as the aftermath of raids on native villages, including several rapes. Something of an underground hit.

Hm... from reading about V:R, it seems that converting it to V:R would have saved you all lot of hassle with industrialization. I remember tossing Vic away after getting frustrated with the factory building overkill...

Anyways, I'll follow this!

At this time there are no AAR rewards; we had a bit of a bad experience with them in EU2. I'm not quite sure what you could do, either. A POP of your state nationality, maybe? Some reasonable sum of money, say 10k or so? (Not that this would be very meaningful for the Great Powers, but ok - it's a cookie, not a feast.) Suggestions are welcome, I'd like to see more AARs.

It seems Bob will be dropping due to a dislike of Vicky's micromanagement, which makes me sad; should anyone care to take over the mantle of Great Britain, the offer's open.

A Greek POP and 10k cash are both extremly good for me tbh. :)

Will see if I can get a AAR together later on.

How big is the minimum requirement now again?

500 words, but please note that my post was intended as a suggestion up for discussion, not as saying 'this is what we'll do'. I'll start a discussion thread in B&I and we'll see how people feel.

Its a shame you feel like leaving Dr. Bob, hope you reconsider, you have gone too many centurys as China and Britain to give up now. Victoria revolutions greatly reduces the micromanagement.

For rewards on doing AARs, I suppose money would be the easiest way for it has the same value to all no matter how much one has.

Chapter 1:

Welcome, welcome! Welcome to the cradle of the Orthodox religion. Welcome to the oldest unoccupied nation on earth. Welcome to the centre of the world. Welcome to the last remains of the Roman Empire. Welcome to Byzantium. Welcome unto:

GREECE!

I am the storyteller, and this is my story. The Byzantium Empire got it legacy as a description of the Greek speaking part of the Roman Empire and was under most of it’s history known as “the Empire of the Greeks”. The capital was made into Constantinople by the emperor Constantine by 330 and was made into a separate entity and the successor of the Roman Emperor after Romulus Augustus death in 476.

The continued history of the Byzantium empire is not written down in it’s fullest and only fragments exist into this day about it’s long feuds with the kingdom of Jerusalem, it’s stagnation and falling down into a third rate nation.

By 1836 the nation was still held under a absolute monarchy which was consulted of what would be called, “the French faction”. The current economy was rather strong, their colonial territories were greater than most of the other empires and nations that are spanning the globe and a welfare was still unheard of. Under the French faction the country began it’s work on a diplomatic web entangling most of the nations of earth, making it allied with Spain, Poland, Persia, Belguim (Burgundy) and other states across the globe. The state welfare was started with minimum wages, pension funds and similar projects. But there is always a price.

To pay for the welfare they cut off all crime fighting and the education, making the Byzantium Empire falling far behind both in literacy and in research. To pay for the diplomacy Greece was soon dragged into a bloody war with the Chinese Empire. The future was dark and uncertain.

Now I was assured we needed a hero, a hero to rescue this nation, so I, the storyteller, went out with my hand and picked up a poor Scandinavian and dropped him in a place to rescue this poor God forgotten nation.

With a gigantic *bang* the-great-hero-from-Scandinavia fell down into a chair in a big room. Dizzy the-great-hero-from-Scandinavia rose up and knew that he somehow stand in the wrong room. Still confused the door open and a official clothes man comes in and say “Oh, there you are, you must be the new representant for the British faction! My Godness, with all this democracy there and democracy this you never know who is ruling this place… It’s not as good as it was on my father’s time when you knew who you had to sell your goats to if you wanted to avoid execution!”.

The-great-hero-from-Scandinavia looked on the man and asked “Erm… Is this Fear factor?”, the man answered simply “No, this is of course the royal palace of Constantinople, capital of the Byzantium empire! I always thought you Englishmen were great with geography with all your seafaring and conquering all over the place. But I guess all your cosiness has made you fat and stupid. I even saw once a paper describing how you thought North-Korea was located in Jerusalem!”.

The-great-hero-from-Scandinavia knew something was wrong, but he couldn’t put a finger on what exactly which was wrong about the situation and just nodded assured he had seen something including strange talking Englishmen placing North Korea unto some great island he was convinced was Gotland…

Without waiting to a reply the man grabbed the-great-hero-from-Scandinavia and took him into a big room filled with maps, men with gigantic moustaches and people playing awful music. Muttering about how pop was taking over everywhere and you couldn’t find any decent Guns N’ Roses anymore the-great-hero-from-Scandinavia looked down on the maps which showed the great nation of China.

The man who had taken the-great-hero-from-Scandinavia into the room presented his royalty Michael XII, admiral of the united Greek fleets Long John Silver, the general of the united Greek landforces Angus and the administrator of the Greek finances Adam Smith.

The-great-hero-from-Scandinavia nodded and said hello to the present people and asked “I think I am a bit confused, but what am I doing here?”, Adam Smith answered “Well, minister, believe it or not, but we won against the bloody Frenchies!” with some seconds of thinking the-great-hero-from-Scandinavia answered “Right…” Michael XII said “Well, currently our armies has been rather victorious and we have grabbed most of Indochina from the Chinese, but with the hordes of China collecting and the thousands of rebells spawning we can’t hope to keep the lands for long, so admiral Silver, are our fleets enough to keep our troops supplied and able to evacuate if needed?”

“Yarr, I guarantee ye, land lubbies won’t do nothin’ on me beauty of the sea. So hand me some grog and handpipe yer bilgerats!” Long John Silver replies while trying to catch the parrot, which pick him in the head. With a moment of quite the-great-hero-from-Scandinavia say “Right…”.

Happy with the answer, Michael XII ask Angus how the landforces will survive and Angus replies with “Us is richt muckle!”. Staring the-great-hero-from-Scandinavia say “You are sure this is not Hidden camera?”.

This is great, going from one game to another and uniting the AAR communities. I believe that the Vichy part of this AAR will be the hardest; I’m curious how you will pull it off. *subscribed*

Been following this since CK, makes me kind of want to play multi-player.

Can't find my copy of Vicky though, maybe because I share Dr. Bob's dislike of micromanagement.
