and parts of SMACK and others mods/events I fear I'm no more able to identify for acknowledgment

Why Koiné?
Koiné Greek (Κοινή Ἑλληνική), a Greek dialect that developed from the Attic dialect (of Athens) and became the spoken language of Greece at the time of the Empire of Alexander the Great. It became the lingua franca of the Roman Empire. The Koine was the original language of the New Testament, of the writings of the early Christian Church Fathers. So it is likely the the common language of the Byzantine Empire and in general the Word SUMMA of this era.

Prologue

During the fourth and fifth centuries the Empire was had one of his worst time, the Eastern Roman Empire managed to eliminate many of the non-roman generals, which where ruling its counterpart in the West.

After Theodosius the Great, the two halves began drifting apart, while the West kept a strong Roman indentity, the East found itself identifying more and more with the ancient heritage of Greece. Hellenism and been a powerful influence in the Orient ever since the time of Alexander and as time progressed Greek culture gradually supplanted the Latin. This is not to say that the Empire ceased to be a Roman one. Quite to the contrary, the people around the Mediterranean, in West and East Europe continued to refer to themselves as Roman citzens long after the time Rome as the centre of trade and power had lost its role.

The tide was turning, the reign of Justinian saw his Reconquest (often known as the "Justianian Renconquest") in which the Empire regained portions of the West including Italy, North Africa and southern Iberia (modern day Spain).

This was continued by Heraclius, the Emperor who signed a permanent peace with the Sassanid Persia, which later felt due to the islamic conquests.
Britannia, Gallia and most of Iberia accepted again the formal supremacy of the Empire again.

The advent of Islam which began in Heraclius' final years, brought a new and even more problem, while as dangerous enemy it was diverted to the East against the Sassanid Persia, the following emperors had to accept them as foederati of the Empire leaving to them the indirect control of many of its territories. Egypt, North Africa, the Levant and Syria, and parts of Spain provinces that had been Christian for centuries, converted helped also by muslim Emperors.

With muslim emperors the Roman Empire had to experience the cultural and intellectual deprivations that of many religious wars in Western Europe. The seventh through ninth centuries saw the Roman Empire ruled by nominal emperors while struggling ceaselessly against their new enemies Slavs from the north. The year 800 saw the rebirth of a Christian Roman Empire, thanks to Charlemagne, he married the Empress Irene (Eastrn Roman Empire) at the hands of the Pope, this preserved the long held notions of the essential unity of the Roman Empire.

The tenth centuries saw Roman Empire fortunes again in danger, a series struggles for the Emperor title put strong leaders and able generals one against the other, the Empire sit on the defensive with the the Islamic world and the Barbarians.

Thanks to A History of Byzantium-Preface by VILenin for some preface ideas

These eight men, anonymous generals of the Roman Empire, made an alliance to keep the Roman Empire alive, they took the name of historical Roman Emperors dynasties and its roman culture, split the Empire in areas of influence, and elected one of them as new Emperor.
For the first time the Empire had a defined succession law, the elective law of the strongest will be respected? Will Iulius have the skills and not only the name of Iulius Caesar?
The first move was to keep and extent the old imperial/republican provinces where possible, while aknowleging the feudal right and the new cultures and religions of the Empire. The two two administrative halves of the Empire were kept with a preference for a strong Eastern Empire (Greece and Anatolia) and a weak Western Empire (Parts of Italy and North Africa)

......election as Emperor of the Roman Empire.......

......and his military acclamation

Militaryacclamation.jpg

The first acts see Iulius sending diplomats in and around the empire to know who are his friends and his enemies, he set the 26 of December 1066 as the date of the official Coronation cerimony.

Rome is again the capital of the Empire. Constantinople, the economic core in the East, remain under his the direct control. Neaples in Italy is the administrative capital of the Western Empire and Smyrna is the administrative for the Eastern side.

Very interesting.

stnylan,Mettermrck,Veldmaarschalk ,Specialist290,Anarhco Liberal ,east_emnet : Thanks for the good feedback

Chief Ragusa : The Families are 7, Caesars' House is claimed both by Marcus Aurelius (Dux of Gallia Cisalpina) and Iulius (Emperor), no family relationship between the two.

CSK : It's "Iulius" fault if I have this dark-age bad english/roman.

History from December 26 1066 until March 16 1067 to arrive soon, first internal and external probs arising

Iulius:"Let's see what happen, I should apply DIVIDE ET IMPERA and have small-weak neighbours, but this time I will avoid a war from Rhine to Danube"

2.jpg

4.jpg

January 26 1067
The pecheneg vassal in Dacia, is asking again and again, to join his brothers against Hungary. For know we keep him calm, nor we want the Empire involved in a war, nor we want him to rebel, nor we want him to split.

5.jpg

January 26 1067
The ambassador returns from the Middle East to report that while at the moment the Sultanate of Seljuk Turks is not an enemy (due to our prestige, history and "military might"), their influence on same religion areas of the Empire is increasing, Syria is the weakest side because is divided between many small muslim Sheilkdoms, while in Aegyptus Province the Fatimids dynasty governor represent a balancing element and in Palestine et Arabia we have in Alexander of Flavian dynasty a safe ally.

...one...
Legio I consist of 2.500 highly trained legionairs and it is what remain of the professional roman army, most of the 133.000 troops referred in the court documents as the Roman Empire Army are only locally hired citzens that each territory has to provide. Iulius speaking to the centurions of Legio I:"It will be my honor to be your Imperator, you will be my personal guards and I will not waste your skills and experienced leading you to a war after another" [Look at the small medieval village of Rome at the left side of the screenie]

February 11 1067
The Emperor Iulius sails to Britannia to meet Lucius Aemilii, now governor and ex-attendant of Iulius when in the army, he hold the title of Magister of North , he controll most of Britannia and has as vassals most of northen Gallia (Gallia Lugdunensis and Gallia Baelgica) and the northen outposts in Walles and southern Scotland. He is worried of many saxon and norman vassals who are not fully integrated, the most troublemaker is a man named William.

8.jpg

March 1 1067
Back to Italy, Domenico Contarini (Governor of Western Empire) invites Iulius to spend some days near Neaples, on the island of Capri.
Food, wine, dancers and an early warm spring entertain the Emperor.
Domenico reassure of the peaceful situation with Italy and African vassals, only the Duke of Dalmatia warned him of troop movements along the Danube river, but the warning is dismissed as connected with the German/Hungarian war with the pechenegs.

9.jpg

Antoninus II of Valentinians' House starts his dynasty marry the ugly but intriguing Foteine Spartenos (no relationshio with the beautiful Empress Foteine)

10.jpg

March 12 1067
Iulius raised a new Roman Legion. Two thousand young men started training with Legio I to form Legio II.
13.jpg
Meanwhile the Emperor pay homage to the Pope in Thessalonike, religious tensions in the Empire are a matter of concern for Iulius while Anselm of Lucca reclaim the only and true catholic faith for the Roman Empire. The meeting end without clear agreement.

11.jpg

March 16 1067
God bless the Emperor, Iulius and Foteine are expecting their first child ( a male please a male!!!!!)
The same day an ambassador arrives from the Kingdom of Germany, the request is to do not interfere with the ongoing Hungarian/German war against the pechenegs. First german regiments leave Germany but most of the troops remain mobilized along the Roman/German border.

Why do I get the feeling there will be a war with germany before this is all over?

Could you please cut out the important point of the screenshot or at least make them bigger than they are now? I have some problems to read the titles etc right now.

But good so far. Are the Germans Pagan or do you have to claim their lands before taking them first?

Very cool idea! So the premise of the mod is that the Roman Empire survives to 1066, reconstructed by the union of East and West? The marriage between Charles and Irene certainly openned up many possibilities historically; the consequences would surely have been far-reaching had the Byzantines not deposed Irene before the marriage could take place.

Glad I could have inspired you in some small way. :)

Impressive start... Keep it up! :)

During one of the first meeting of the Imperial Secret Council, the Emperor Iulius asked for full details about the Roman Empire administrative situation, and received a debrief about status and position of Romanized people and its Diocese Imperial Bishop reminded him that Germany is a catholic kingdom.
Due the pressing religius tensions in and outside the Empire, Iulius ordered to take a Census of Population.
